Do Not Mess With Dodger Fans Mascots!
Thursday, July 19, 2007
Someone may have already mentioned this yesterday (can't remember who), but watch the hilarity when Lou Seal (Giants mascot) sprays Silly String into some Dodger fans' beers...
Damn fake seals, always getting up in my bidness. Seriously though, coming from someone who's been in way too many mascot costumes....that sun glasses flip is badass Lou.

If you subscribe to the MLB Online thingy put it on the Royals-Twins Game. Zach Greinke has hit two Twins in the 2nd inning including blasting Torii Hunter in the mouth. Both players (the other being Bartlett) almost charged him, but decided against it.
I smell a fight brewing!!!
Update: Boof Bonser does nothing in the Top of the Third, which disappoints me greatly. That dude could do some damage.
UPDATE #2: Pena from the Royals just followed through on a swing and struck Catcher Mark Redmond on the back. The Announcer went ahead and predicted the fight by saying....
"This is where you just rear back and hit someone on the kneecap."
Umm probably not because the bases are loaded, but okay! Go for it Boof!!!
UPDATE #3: Just heard that they've taken Hunter to the hospital. Okay, you HAVE to do something now. Just plunk Alex Gordon right in the back. He's not going to do anything....plus there haven't been any warnings yet.
No fight today, but mark my words......tomorrow there will be war!!!!!!!
Happy Patriots' Day!

Jim Lampley Update
Friday, January 05, 2007
So yesterday I told you about boxing announcer Jim Lampley getting locked up for what appeared to be a little bit of wife beating. Well the report (allegation) is out and it doesn't look good for him......at all.
TMZ
Sanders says at that point all hell broke loose. She alleges, "He grabbed me and threw me against a wall. He then threw me against another wall. He then threw me against the door and I collapsed."Sanders goes on to say that 14-year-old Aaron saw her on the floor and she asked him to call the police. She writes in the document," Jim beat Aaron to the phone and kept Aaron from getting [to the phone]. She says Lampley then drove away with Aaron. Sanders claims she suffered head, neck and back injuries.Well Lampley has now submitted his own press release....LA Times (Registration- Free)
Lampley issued this statement: "I'm innocent of the charge of domestic abuse that has been leveled against me and will vigorously defend myself…. I'm confident I will be found not guilty of this charge. I thank my friends and family for their support … and ask for understanding and patience from the media until my situation allows me to discuss this in more depth."His status for the Jan 20th fight on HBO and his future Olympic endeavours are up in the air. Fortunately it was not Bree Walker, but this fetching lass below. He was probably just pissed that she wouldn't give back that f'ing sweet NBC Sports jean jacket pictured above.

Thanks to Mister Irrelevant and Signal to Noise for the tip(s). And the photo is from TMZ.

Sugar Bowl Live Blog, Pre-Game
Wednesday, January 03, 2007
First, I would like to apologize for bumping USC Song Girl AssGate from the top of the page, and thank Awful Announcing for giving me an opportunity to crack fat jokes for the next six hours. As mentioned below, I have a little site called Run Up The Score. It's mainly a college football blog, but often deviates into such topics as mentally challenged headbangers, Jenn Sterger's implants, music, and Pittsburgh sports fans that just need to put their clothes on and shut up.
It's going to be a long night, so let's just cut to the pre-game formalities.
Tonight's Allstate Sugar Bowl returns to it's proper home of the Louisiana Superdome and is essentially a home game for the Louisiana State Tigers. The location also provides a convenient post-game excuse for Notre Dame, who could set a new NCAA record for most consecutive bowl losses (9).
Just for fun, let's look back at Notre Dame's previous eight bowl losses.
| Fiesta Bowl | | Loss - Notre Dame 24, Colorado 41 |
| Orange Bowl | | Loss - Notre Dame 26, Florida State 31 |
| Independence Bowl | | Loss - Notre Dame 9, LSU 27 |
| Gator Bowl | | Loss - Notre Dame 28, Georgia Tech 35 |
| Fiesta Bowl | | Loss - Notre Dame 9, Oregon State 41 |
| Gator Bowl | January 1, 2003 | Loss - Notre Dame 6, NC State 28 |
| Insight Bowl | December 28, 2004 | Loss - Notre Dame 21, Oregon State 38 |
| Fiesta Bowl | January 2, 2005 | Loss - Notre Dame - 20, Ohio State 34 |
So, Notre Dame hasn't only lost their last eight bowl games, they were beaten by at least 14 points in six of those eight losses.

Fox is carrying the Sugar Bowl, and has assigned the team of Kenny Albert, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long and Jeanne Zelasko to bring us the action. This could get fun. And by "fun", I mean "disasterous." ESPN Radio has the infinitely better team of Brad Nessler, Bob Griese, Paul Maguire and Erin Andrews. Erin Andrews on the radio? That's a bigger tease than the USC Song Girl actually sporting underwear.
Anyway, each school will receive between $14 million and $17 million from the Bowl Championship Series for their efforts. Naturally, LSU will be treated as the home team, which doesn't prevent Notre Dame from wearing those unlucky green jerseys since LSU usually wears white at home. The Irish have a 5-4 record all-time against LSU. The official Sugar Bowl site breathlessly notes that "Notre Dame (10-2), winners of eight of its last nine games, became BCS bowl eligible by tallying nine or more wins in their season." So did 22 other teams, but who's counting?

What To Watch For:
- Can Notre Dame's offensive line protect Brady Quinn, and will LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini be able to generate pressure with only his front four? If Notre Dame can keep Quinn upright or force LSU to blitz linebackers and safeties, WR's Rhema McKnight and Jeff Samardzija could break loose. So could Irish TE John Carlson, who torched Penn State earlier this season.
- Which JaMarcus Russell will show up? This should be easy pickings for Russell, who is the streakiest high-profile quarterback in college football this year. He can be unstoppable at times, but can also crap the bed with the best of 'em.
- Big plays on special teams. Neither team's kicking game is particularly good, which means something freaky is bound to happen. A missed extra point or chip shot field goal, a busted punt coverage, or a blocked kick could go a long way in helping Notre Dame notch the upset.
- Will LSU's fans actually make it into Superdome, or will they be carted off to the nearest emergency room?
Prediction: LSU 34, Notre Dame 30. I'm torn between wanting a close, entertaining game, or a complete blowout, which would force Marv Albert to break into "announcer time wasting mode" with Terry and Howie.
Ladies and gentlemen, start your Fatty McButterpants jokes!

Interesting story coming out of Miami.......
According to the Miami Herald via the The Big Lead
Daunte Culpepper confronted Steve Young after comments Young made during the X-Mas game this past Monday. Culpepper apparently was in a luxury box and heard Young say that "he's been missing meetings". Well Daunte decided to take matters into his own hands....
''I don't miss meetings,'' Culpepper said as he waited to confront Young outside the ESPN broadcast booth. ``That's not who I am. I'm working so hard to get back right now, and I don't need to hear someone who doesn't even know me say I'm missing meetings and I need to work harder.''Culpepper felt so strongly about the inaccuracy of Young's allegations, he left his suite in search of him, a trek that led him a considerable distance from his box to the press box. Young came out of the broadcast booth nearly five minutes after Culpepper arrived.
The two quarterbacks spoke in a corner for several minutes. At one point, former Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann, a Monday Night Football commentator, also joined the conversation.
Young had this to say....
''I made the mistake of not calling Daunte himself,'' Young said afterward. ``He was doing rehab, he was doing all kinds of other things. He tells me he wasn't [missing meetings]. He looked me straight in the eye. Joe [Theismann] is going to fix it on the air for me.''Well that's all well and good Young, but there's one thing you're over-looking.....YOU LIED! Why does ESPN allow this to take place? All the time people just say random crap on the air, and when they are called out they back-pedal and it's forgotten.
Yes Daunte hasn't been as vocal a leader as he should, but I really don't think he wanted to interrupt the season. The sad thing is that I was watching when Steve Young said that, and I believed him......straight up. Why wouldn't you believe him? Daunte has been painted as not a hard worker. He's taken a chain back from a paralyzed high school kid. And then there was the Sex Boat thing that got him bumped out of Minnesota. But to spin your lie about someone's character like you have some inside info is just wrong.
Damn, and I liked Steve Young too. Like TheBigLead says.....Peter King now looks good. He does straight up reporting and people respect him for it. Now just stop talking about lattes and I'll read your articles.
