Hockey Is Apparently Still Really Violent
Friday, October 24, 2008
Sorry for the half day nature of the site today, but it's Friday....who really cares right? Friday is also a day for violence and glass exploding during Hockey games. Here is the Bruins' Milan Lucic checking the Leafs' Mike Van Ryn through the glass....
I'm not sure who the announcer was in that clip (Jack Edwards maybe?), but his, "That'll Make Every Highlight Reel For About A Decade," call was a great one. Those big chunks of glass going all over the front row was awesome. Well, as long as no one got seriously hurt. Good times.

Mine eyes have seen the glass shards!
It's Jack Edwards, and was surprised to learn he's been in broadcasting 27 years.
I was reminded of that old Bob Ley line after seeing that:
"Our weekly reminder that hockey is still a pane in the glass."
Trevor Linden laughs at your little hit...

Jack has been doing the Bruins games for the last few years- he used to do just the road games, I guess the wised up and gave him the full slate?
Very helpful guy for young people in the business. Open, honest, and very very nice. He & his wife have a small production company in CT, which is what he was doing after he left ESPN.
I was watching it live in HD and you could clearly see each individual shard of glass being lodged into each fan's skin. It was great!
Great hit.
My best friend did that to a guy during a game in High School. Sadly I didn't have a video camera with me.
i was there for this, the crowd went nuts on every replay. too bad the bruins stopped playing after the hit.
and jack edwards needs to go. he may have had a decent call on this, but he's a terrible homer for the b's and has me cringing more often than not.
the other announcer was Andy Brickley.
Here's the commentary from TSN:

Good to see Jack Edward survived being thrown out the window by Roger Clemons
Oh it's Jack Edwards, alright. How many other NHL play by play guys sound like Barney?
I'm surprised that Jack Edwards is still alive.
