NFL Open Thread - Week 7 Late Games

Sunday, October 19, 2008

Ready to dance into the late games with Peyton? Let's go over what we've seen so far today:
  • St. Louis looks like a very good offensive team, and it helps when Dallas has no secondary left to defend against the pass. It's 34-7 as I write this.
  • Brandon Jacobs has had a good day and the G-men are up by 10 on the Niners.
  • NORV! just stupidly wasted a challenge on a Phil Rivers fumble. Buffalo up by nine thanks to two Marshawn Lynch TDs.
  • The Titans are running all over the Chiefs. Both Chris Johnson and LenDale White have more than 150 yards on the ground each; Johnson has 1 TD and White 3 (and White is sitting on my bench while Johnson plays. Dammit.)
  • Cincinnati is turrible. 34-10, Steelers.
  • 48-34 is not supposed to be the score of a Vikings-Bears game. Gus Frerotte has helped by throwing 3 picks.
  • Carolina is demolishing the Saints 30-7.
  • Ravens win on the road thanks to turnovers by the Fins.
CBS:

Indianapolis at Green Bay - Jim Nantz, Phil Simms
NY Jets at Oakland - Dick Enberg, Randy Cross, Dan Fouts
Cleveland at Washington - Ian Eagle, Solomon Wilcots

Fox:

Detroit at Houston - Chris Rose, J.C. Pearson, Nischelle Turner

Blech. Raiders vs. Gunslinger for me. I think I'd rather cook instead.

How are we supposed to sell the London game now? Two 3-4 teams with no defense to speak of?

I just got the Bills/Chargers final score on my blog exactly right. I said 23-14 and that was the result.

The Raiders have already committed two defensive offsides penalties on the first Jets drive.

This is going to be a fun day.

Every week I think the Chargers are going to catch up and make it close with the Broncos in the division, they shit the bed. Watch them lose in London next week, too.

How is it that I'm stuck with the least watchable games possible today? I had G-Men-49ers with the 9ers supplying the butt, the Bungles supplying the butt to the Steelers, and now the Jets and the Raiders, for what will probably be another butt supplying.

"A third offsides call on the Raiders, and it's another delicious 1st and 5 for Brett Favre." - Dick Enberg

I didn't know 1st and 5s were on the menu at McAfee.

"Another completion. He's going for a baker's dozen on the first drive!" - Enberg on Favre hitting Dustin Baker for another pass.

JFein - there were more butt-whippings than competitive games today. Unless you get Colts-Packers you're stuck with more of it this afternoon, too.

The NFL gets stranger every week. We should start a pool for which last place team beats a top 5 team.

The Raiders have a first and goal, taking advantage of a Leon Washington fumble. Let's see if they actually get in the end zone.

The referee for the Jets- Raiders game is Ron Winter. Anytime I see his crew working a game, the over/under for the amount of penalties called should be about 25. Terrible officiating crew.

No Gregg. Ron Winter is the ref for the Colts/Packers game. I don't know how the other games on CBS are going because they refuse to give updates. We only got 1 during the Titans/Chiefs game and that was the Cowboys game in the middle of the 2nd quarter.

Yeah S2N, I started Chris Johnson too. He should have had 2 more touchdowns but they had to feed it to Lendale White inside the 10, I hate that! If I were Chris I would be pissed, he was the workhorse. Lendale had that one big run but Johnson carried the majority of the load.

Fairplay, it's really my fault. I was the one who thought Ricky Williams was going to have a good game and started him instead of LenDale in the flex spot.

The Jets allowed the Raiders to score on a 70-something yard drive, even after O-lineman Quinn Harris picked up his third and fourth false start penalties of the game on that drive.

I don't get the Jets. You trade for Favre and he only passes 23 times against a pass defense that was torched last week. I'm bitter because I started him this week I guess.

And out of nowhere we have a good one in Washington. 14-11 Skins and Cleveland has the ball at their 29 with just under 2 mins left and no TOs. See, if they did this the whole game, it might have been worth watching.

Why do coaches bother to freeze the kickers with last minute timeouts?? Sigh, at the dumbness of the Raiders..

Justin F. said...

Phil Dawson (who Washington elected NOT to ice) missed a 54-yd FG wide right, so Skins will squeak by. The kick had plenty of distance; he just pushed it.

I'm just glad it's over. I don't think I could have watched more of that poor excuse for a game, anyway.
