World Series Game 3 Open Thread
Saturday, October 25, 2008
That is, if they ever take the tarp off. Weather is a concern for Game Three tonight, hopefully, they're able to play through.
If such is the case, please leave your comments and hate for Joe Buck and Tim McCarver here. There is the little matter of Alabama vs. Tennessee and Penn State vs. OSU to deal with for me.

Doesn't Joe Buck at least know that the wind in the U.S. generally blows west to east, thus the rain should be moving out? You'd think he was smart enough to mention that.
I hate Joe Buck and Tim McCarver.
What's the latest update? I was watching the Penn State game and I missed it.
Raining a bit harder; Another new episode of 'Til Death
Side note: Is 'Til Death actually better than the Steve Harvey show? Stick with old episodes of Cops, Fox. I'd rather watch some meth head get tasered.
Joe Buck just said that it's getting harder and harder to believe that the storm is going to move out by the top of the hour. Now I'm not a meteorologist, but I can read a radar map and it looks like the rain can be out by the top of the hour.

"Another exciting episode of til death is next"
Joe Buck is obviously on pins and needles.
I guess this beats Rescue 911....but the retarded guy from Raymond is no Shatner.
ESPN Radio is running a replay of Game 4 from the D'Backs-Yankees World Series.
...and now the Game is supposed to start at 10pm. The Fox pregame is on.
Well baseball is finally starting, this is obviously a great decision by Major League Baseball to start Game Three of the World Series at 10 pm est.
The ratings are going to be horrible for this game.
John Saunders has told us, twice now, that we should not change the channel since the World Series is in a rain delay. You know John, I think anyone interested in watching the WS already knows that.
Has ESPN mentioned anything yet that the game is starting at 10?
jfein is the only human watching the suckfest that is tOSU against Penn State. *Yawn*
Gotta love the Raffi-esque song they played to intro the Rays.
Did the Rays actually choose that song as their introduction? Hilarious.
does anyone know what the hell this music is that they are playing during the rays lineup?
Someone should tell ESPN Radio that the introductions are going on and get the Hell out of the canned 2001 World Series retrospective.
Wow, an anthem singer that's halfway relevant! Good thing I didn't bet the house on Justin Guarini singing tonight...
taylor swift!!! a much better choice than the backstreet boys or los lonely boys.
Taylor Swift is from Pennsylvania? I never knew that. I think it's safe to say that she was the best national anthem singer by a mile thus far in the World Series. Not that she had much competition in the Backstreet Boys and Los Lonely Boys, but still.
I still have that Rays song stuck in my head!
"Fish, fish, fishy, fishy, fish, fish, fish" AAAHHH!!!!!!
I think this is the third time this evening that Joe Buck has welcomed us to the broadcast booth.
Now FOX can use the late start time as an excuse for the poor ratings - which they would have received even with an 8p start.
That fish song is probably one of the most random WS moments ever.
Carlton wasn't traded....he was flat out released. Giants got him on waivers.
lol they were just chanting Eva at Evan Longoria, thats funny. I'm not the biggest fan of Philly fans but I gotta admit that was good, and the Phillie fans deserve a World Series more then the Ray fan bandwagon jumpers
Tim McGraw with the Phils limeup. Funny how they didn't beg him or his wife to sing the anthem.
Let's go Phils!
Tim McGraw only had one song that I remember, and I heard it for the first time today in years. And that was before he made his apparence in the WS. Kind of ironic.
Oddball question: I'm watching this game in Japan on public television, yet I'm seeing Japanese ads on the screen behind home plate. Are those on FOX as well? They can't be, right?
@ feitclub: No, in the bottom of that 1st inning, there was a Taco Bell ad in English.
"Crawford with his spped as a relatively easy double" - Tim McCarver not realizing that Crawford got in there just in time and was nearly tagged out.
The ballpark places a green screen placard back there so different broadcasters can project different ads on them.
@JFreak I realize that, and I was confused because the game is being broadcast here on NHK, a public broadcaster that collects a license fee from all TV owners. They are normally commercial-free as a result, so seeing ads doesn't make sense to me - unless MLB sells that space directly to advertisers and then adds the images to the feed going to other countries.
"Not exactly a flamethrower" - Joe Buck describing Jamie Moyer
@ feitclub: I don't know if you're seeing the same camera angles that Fox uses, but if you do, when they show a close-up of the battles, you can see a corner of the blank green screen.
I sucked all of your dicks last night....
i thank you for it anony
"Here comes Even 'Don't Call me Eva' Longoria" - Joe Buck
youre welcome, i am gay and i love me some cum.
"What we're seeing is 50 Redemption" - Tim McCarver on Jamie Moyer after our boys spent way too long talking about 24 Redemption.
who expected that Joe Buck would give 24 a bad review?
man you guys are jealous of joe buck. he does not sound excited BUT he actually is excited for these games. he has great knowledge of the sport and really can call games on his own.
tim mccarver is okay but could be better.
he has great knowledge of the sport
Joe Buck had enough time to cram before the World Series.
blow yourself rick james bible owner. he is the son of a legend and will become a legend.
And there's also the fact that Joe Buck had his head up Manny Ramirez's ass the entire NLCS. Both LCS's had some of the most bias commentary on a national level that I can ever remember.
joe buck just had a chance to talk about football and for a moment sounded like he actually cared about what he was talking about.
Joe Buck on football > Joe Buck on baseball.
A surprisingly quiet night for Buck and McCrapper.
All niggers should die because jesus christ said so. WHITE POWER!

well joe buck gets friday and saturday night and sunday morning to cram in for football, but only saturday morning to cram in for baseball. of course he could watch a game during the week but then he couldnt watch "the bachelor"
"Most of the crowd is very tired right now" - Tim McCarver
I'm not at the game, but trust me, game 3 of the World Series, Philly fans are not tired. It could be 2 am and they wouldn't be tired. Drunk? yes. But tired? No.
Dreaded glitches with all the problems from Philly tonight.
Not as bad as the Rudy Martzke Memorial Dreaded Glitch Award last week proving FOX>TBS in baseball.
I'm turning the sound waaaaayyyyyyy
down on Fox World Series.
Announcers are awful!!
But hey, IT'S FOX!!!!
I guess Joe Buck got the memo from Bud Selig: "Hey Joe, please talk about football more because we're totally kicking their ass in the ratings anyway, and I'm really stoked about the Giants-Steelers game along with the Pam Oliver exclusive interview with Jerry Jones."
Wow. Right now if I had to name an MVP, it would be the wind. On a calm day, that kind of shot is out of the park.
Wow. Right now if I had to name an MVP, it would be the wind. On a calm day, that kind of shot is out of the park.
More on-air cursing presented to us by Fox. They aired the audio of the Rays' reaction to Eva's shot and you could clearly air someone say "Damnit!"
Meanwhile Utley drilled one in the seats into the wind. Wow! I wonder how many Rays fans are currently calling the league to see if the Phillies somehow fixed the wind so that it only helps them.
As a Philly fan I can't believe I am saying this: but John Smoltz, the hated John Smoltz, was much better on TBS during the LDS than our old friend McCarver.
how many chances have those fans down the third base line had to get foul balls and come up empty? if i were the ball person down there, i wouldn't not be rewarding them.
oh and about the wind, i'm sure that the league isn't worried about fielding calls from all 10 of the Rays fans, except for the one call coming from Vitale!
@ Noah: I can hear Dickie V now. "This is Unfair with a capital U, baby!"
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! BILL CURTIS IS FASTER THAN MICHAEL PHELPS!! UNFUCKINGBELIEVEABLE!!!
Who is responsible for sticking us with GBA during the seventh inning stretch instead of Take Me Out to the Ballgame? Fox or MLB ?
Why do we have to constantly be reminded that October 28th is National Diarrhea Day?
@ odessasteps: that would be the yankees!
@Odessa
If you're against GBA, then you're against America, and you might as well be French, Frenchy.
Otherwise, I agree with you.
i think that somehow somebody should get something on the ballot this year for everyone to choose whether or not we need 8 more years of joe buck
That's a petition I'll sign, Anon 12:43.
Did they just say that Chris Myers is going to be working the Eagles game and the Phillies game tomorrow? Damn, that's one helluva day of work.
@jfein: Myers will make up for doing the "split doubleheader" as McCarver put it by not adding much on the sidelines of Game 4.
Joe Buck is slouched again!!! Absolutely unprofessional. At least Tim McCarver is trying to appear professional when on camera. Joe Buck looks like he belongs at the beach.
If "Joe Buck is great" is still reading, this is only one of many reasons why a lot of people hate Joe Buck. Arrogance personified.
Check that 11:47.
It was motherfucking Comcast's fault.
"Upton has three steals in this game. Four on the night." - Tim McCarver contradicting himself.
"It's the guy with a stick in his hand that can beat you" - Tim McCarver
Ummm...
Ugh
Werth is killing the Phillies these last two games.
McCarver just said he turned the wrong way on the pickoff (fucking stupid of Werth by the way), but apparently he had never heard of the "inside move."
Philly needs a big play to get the momentum back. As a Philly fan, I'm scared to death right now.
Oh man...this is tense. Let me tell you what, due to the late start, this could end up being the lowest rated World Series game of all time, but let me tell you what, this is one hell of a game.
If the Phillies don't score in this bottom of the 9th, it will be remembered for a long time in Philadelphia.
@jfein
This is Philly... of course they're not going to score. In fact, I predict inning ending triple play.
Or a swinging bunt that Eva launches into the stands. Same thing.
Unfuckingbelieveable!!!! Oh my goodness, what a game. Go Phillies!!! Wow, that was wild.
@ Rob in Wi: Believe me, I was anticipating a triple play as well.
I posted this in the pammies but seeing as this is now up, I'm putting it here.
"I'm not smart enough to figure out what all the green stuff means" - Joe Buck at the beginning of the game on reading a radar map.
