Digger Phelps REALLY Thinks Memphis Should Have Fouled
Tuesday, April 08, 2008
Caught this clip right before the OSM last night and it cracked me up. Digger Phelps is trying to explain how Memphis fouling at the end of regulation would have helped them and that they didn't need a timeout to set up their defense. Jay Bilas and Bobby Knight disagree. Watch as Digger slowly starts to lose it...
I absolutely love it when people get into a heated argument about two completely different things. The best part is that they got back into it after the break and the whole debate started all over. Also, Bobby Knight's reaction is priceless. Everyone starts to laugh it off, but he just looks fed up.
It's been a long month Bobby, you really think you deal with Digger on a full time basis?

Bob Knight Officially Sells Out, Does A Commercial With A Talking Car
Monday, April 07, 2008
I'm all for people making as much money anyway they can, but this is a little ridiculous. This is a new Volkswagen commercial in which ESPN Analyst Bob Knight talks to an old VW Bug about Championships and decides to throw an oversized IKEA-like chair....
Dumb...just dumb. I did a little bit more research and I think the Bug's name is Max and he's going to be talking about cars with more people than just Bob Knight. The list includes such stars with German lineage like David Hasselhoff and Heidi Klum! So at least he's in good company. Herbie the Love Bug couldn't be reached for comment.
(Sorry about the crawl at the bottom. I've got another version loading now without it.)

Bobby Knight Gives Himself A New Job Title (He Also Hates Ties)
Wednesday, March 19, 2008

He already tried to pull this off on air last week, but Bob Knight is doing everything he can to not be called a member of the media. He's even given himself a title for those in the real media to call him....
"Here's how I handle that: I just simply say I am a media consultant," Knight said of his ESPN gig talking basketball with Digger Phelps and Jay Bilas -- a job for which he has been outfitted with a rainbow of sweaters with the ESPN logo.Interesting title isn't it? And while I agree with him on the suit and tie thing, I can already tell that I'm tired of his schtick. But that's just me....hopefully his analysis will outweigh his personality this week.
"I told 'em, 'I'm not going to wear a coat and tie. If you want me to do this, that's the first condition.' This is sports. It isn't the Supreme Court."

ESPN Is Going A Bit Far With This Bob Knight Stuff Now
Monday, March 17, 2008
Slouching and grumpiness aside this has to be the most ridiculous ad I have ever seen. ESPN decided to take all of Bob Knight's "highlights" from the past week and set them to some dramatic music just to let you know he won't be back on air until Wednesday....
DUNH DUNH DUNH! How can you not laugh at that? Just amazing.

Dick Vitale Has Jobs For Bob Knight , Digger Phelps, And Himself
I think Dickie V is one of those people who doesn't have a filter on the things that he's thinking. He just blurts things out from time to time and this one seemed to tick off Bobby Knight just a bit....
I love the reaction from everybody....they just start cracking up. But seriously, why even bring this up now? Sure it's March and the Tournament is starting, but let's talk about something from 8 years ago.

Jeremy Schaap Is Still Not A Fan Of Bobby Knight
Friday, March 14, 2008
You'd think that Jeremy Schaap might be willing to let bygones be bygones now that Bobby Knight is on his team. That's definitely not the case. The NY Times got a hold of Schaap while on vacation and he had this to say about his nemesis....
Knight toys with the notion that he is part of the media, which he isn’t. He’s an expert witness, not a reporter. On Wednesday, he prefaced a comment by saying, “Not being a member of the media; rather, being a consultant,” which prompted [Digger] Phelps to say, “You’re media, sitting there. You’re media. Get used to it.”Wow. If ESPN wants ratings, get those two on-air together post haste! I don't think there's any love lost between Schaap and Knight.
Schaap, on vacation and not upset at missing Knight’s opening night, said: “He has a long way to go before he’s as good as Digger Phelps. And I mean that 100 percent.”

A Look Inside Bobby Knight's First Night At ESPN
Thursday, March 13, 2008

A wrote a piece for Sporting News about Bob Knight's first night on ESPN and rather than quoting myself I'll just provide the link...
Knight Makes Debut, Proves He Is a Company Man (The Sporting Blog)
There was no yelling, no chair throwing, but plenty of scowls and attempts at humor. I know many of you said in previous posts that you refuse to listen what he has to say, but I have to tell you....he was pretty good. He made great points about Conference Tournaments and the Big East, but in the end didn't seem overly joyed to be on camera.
Not that he should be, but at least act like you care. At points he had his arms folded or would stare down at his notes as others talked. The highlight of the night though was when Rece Davis threw questions at the Coach in a segment called "Knight's Insights". The Digger Phelps answer actually made me laugh out loud....
I loooooove the ESPN sweater as well Bobby! Nice touch.

Time To Welcome Bobby Knight To The Madness
Wednesday, March 12, 2008

There really hasn't been that much Madness so far, but it's time for Bobby Knight to add his two cents to the conference tournaments. The action gets underway in the Big East at noon today (I'll try to update you as the games are played) but Knight won't be on until 7pm tonight with Rece Davis and Digger Phelps.
Rece Davis is aware that people are watching and had this to say about the former Coach...
Davis says he's told Knight "the one thing we didn't want to do is put him in a box; I want his personality to come out." And, in a clip 'n' save, Davis says Knight didn't say any topic was off limits: "He told me, 'Don't be afraid to ask me what you need to ask me.'"Bobby is just setting them up for an outburst now. I love it. I was against this hire at first (actually I still am) but the trainwreck potential is definitely exciting.

What Could Possibly Go Wrong ESPN?
Saturday, March 08, 2008
I found this hilarious video over at Fark today and it looks like it's just been recently added to YouTube. Ladies and Gentlemen I give almost 10 minutes of Bobby Knight outtakes from a Golf show he co-hosted in the 80s (expect lots of cursing)....
"We hope Golf Your Way, we hope will be a unique instructional period for each of you out there that's a godd**n, f**king bad golfer like me."- BK
Now that's a mission statement! Keep giving him a mic live ESPN...it's only a matter of time.

Do Not Ask Bobby Knight About Indiana
Friday, February 29, 2008
So Greenie decided early today that he was going to ask Bobby Knight about Indiana and he delivered on that when ESPN's newest analyst was on M&M this morning. After Bobby Knight talked about defensive lineman and rebounding for 5 minutes (I seriously could not follow him on that one), Mike popped the question....
You have to credit Greenberg for asking the question, but I don't know what he expected. I say it's about a week before Knight goes off on somebody. This is going to be fun.

ESPN Hires Bobby Knight As An Analyst
Thursday, February 28, 2008

You pretty much knew this was coming right? ESPN announced today that Bobby Knight will be joining their stable of ex-coaches and players starting March 12th. He will be utilized across a multitude of platforms but most notably as an analyst during Championship Week....
Basketball Hall of Famer Bob Knight, the winningest coach in Division I men’s college basketball with 902 victories, will join ESPN as a men’s college basketball studio analyst during the network’s coverage of Championship Week Presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods and through the NCAA Tournament. Knight will begin Wednesday, March 12 from ESPN’s Bristol studios and conclude Monday, April 7 from ESPN’s set in San Antonio, Texas, site of the NCAA Final Four. As part of the agreement, Knight will also appear on select ESPN shows and platforms, including SportsCenter, ESPN Radio and ESPNEWS.So I guess the question is how much do you think Bobby Knight gets paid for just under a month's worth of work? Oh and by "compelling listen" do you mean "obnoxious a**hole"??? I kid I kid (not really). I think I was pretty dead on with this quote three weeks ago....
“I think ESPN has been real good for college basketball and I look forward to working with some of their people who I have known a long time,” said Knight.
Norby Williamson, ESPN executive vice president, production, added, “Coach Knight is a legend with a depth of knowledge on tournament basketball. Fans have always found him to be a compelling listen and we are delighted to add his insights to our tournament coverage.”
"He's just not a good fit for television which means ESPN will hire him later today."
So Is Bobby Knight Heading To TV? (Awful Announcing)

So Is Bobby Knight Heading To TV?
Thursday, February 07, 2008

That was the rumor as soon as the coach announced that he was leaving Texas Tech, but longtime friend Billy Pack doesn't think it would be a good fit.
CBS' Billy Packer called Knight "the most brilliant clinician in the sport of basketball that's ever been" and put him at the "top of the list" of people he'd like to hear explain games -- "but I don't know if that translates to TV."For all of Billy Packer's flaws you can't say his honesty is one of them. It's almost as he's specifically describing Sunday Countdown. Although it seems like a good idea to most of Knight's friends I personally think this would be a horrible idea. Think Mike Ditka, but even more grumpy and standoffish.
Generally, TV rookies debut in studio shows and not games, where the work can be more complicated. But Packer suggests Knight couldn't just be plopped down in a studio.
"I think he'd be frustrated," he said. "People are looking for tricky sound bites in studios, and to say something cute, and say it two or three times because the show is going into different markets, he'd walk out. He'd say, 'I'm not going to pretend I'm laughing for the third time.'"
He's just not a good fit for television which means ESPN will hire him later today.

Bobby Knight Has Officially Lost It
Sunday, January 06, 2008
I don't know how many people saw this, but this clip just blew my mind. Here is Bobby Knight and his 21 Month Old Grandson at his press conference last night....
I have no comment (and this was after a win).
