For some reason, I just knew this would happen. A long time ago Erin Andrews was asked if she would take a spin on Dancing With The Stars, and she didn't rule it out. Good god. Not only did they pull the last Bachelor right off the set, but they've snagged Ocho Cinco, Jon & Kate minus Jon and and actually dancer from a pop group. The apocalypse is upon us, folks.

I first have to admit that I do watch "Jersey Shore" on MTV. I mean honestly, how can you not? That doesn't mean it's good television, or that the cast members are in any way important. It's just a guilty pleasure, and I think most people feel that way.

Well, the cast has been seen everywhere lately and now they're even seeping into Sports Arenas. For some reason they were in Los Angeles yesterday attending the Ducks-Kings game, and of course FS West had to interview them....

That could quite possibly be the worst and shortest interview in the history of television. I also love the comment by the elder statesman Bob Miller (who has called Kings games since 1973), that he never misses a show. Me either Bob....me either.

The fact that Shaquille O'Neal hasn't starred in his own reality show at this point, is a complete travesty. ABC is planning on changing all that when it will air "Shaq Vs." this August. O'Neal has already lined up competitions against athletes in their own Sport with the likes of Michael Phelps, Ben Roethlisberger and Albert Pujols, and is looking to add Lance Armstrong to the list. Filming begins Wednesday in Pittsburgh, where Shaq takes on Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in football. Future hour-long episodes will pit him against Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, retired boxer Oscar De La Hoya, St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols, tennis pro Serena Williams and beach volleyball Olympians Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh.

O'Neal, 37, says he also hopes to book pal Lance Armstrong for a cycling competition once the Tour de France ends. The series is set to premiere Aug. 18 and will air Tuesdays at 9 ET/PT.

O'Neal says he came up with the idea as a fun way to help train for the NBA season and figured sports fans "would really want to see an athlete play another sport." He knew most of the athletes and recruited some of them on Twitter.

ABC was immediately interested. "He's very playful, almost everyone can relate to him. He has a fun sort of childish persona, and at the same time he's a superstar," says John Saade, co-chief of ABC's reality programming, says of the 7-foot-1 O'Neal. "Our real hope is you come for the absurdity but you stay for the sport."

Up until now, I've thought every reality show possibility had been explored, but apparently I was wrong. This seems like a light-hearted and definitely fun idea, and I can't imagine anyone who would choose to skip Shaq acting like a fool with other famous athletes. Great work, ABC!

Shaq Steps Into the Reality TV Realm (WFNY)

Terrell Owens has been filming a reality show for what seems like forever, but the show is ready to go, and will air on VH1, July 20th. Not only does the program feature a very sexy logo (see above), but will also feature his best friends and publicists, Monique Jackson and Kita Williams. Here is your sneak preview....

Say what you want about him as a player, but the guy sure knows how to get his name into the media. The timing of his run-in with Joana Krupa on "Super Stars", combined with his offseason signing with the Bills, is almost TOO perfect....and it might even make the show worth watching. I said "might".

"The Pen", a reality show which follows the goings on of the Philadelphia Phillies bullpen, is set to debut this Sunday on the MLB Network. The show gives unprecedented access to a Major League club, and will be narrated by none other than Mitch Williams....

The Pen takes a look at the players’ lives following the team’s 2008 World Series win and the pressures of keeping their roster spot for the 2009 team. The series features relief pitchers Brad Lidge, Ryan Madson, J.C. Romero, Scott Eyre, Clay Condrey, Chad Durbin, Gary Majewski, Jack Taschner, J.A. Happ, Chan Ho Park and bullpen coach Mick Billmeyer, and follows them to everything from fishing trips and youth baseball games to the White House for a post-World Series visit. The program also speaks with players following the sudden death of longtime Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas on April 13.

“As a reality-based series The Pen is the ultimate look into the lives of these players, both on and off the field,” said Tony Petitti, President and CEO of MLB Network. “So much of what we know about relief pitchers is based on statistics and saves, and a series like The Pen gives a level of familiarity to each player.”

The program, a co-production between MLB Network and MLB Productions, marks the first program ever produced using a camera and microphones installed in a Major League bullpen to film in-game and practice footage. Two other cameras were installed in Citizens Bank Park - one behind home plate and one at low first base - and were controlled by MLB Network’s headquarters in Secaucus, New Jersey. Producer Danny Field suited up as a catcher with a camera attached to his mask to capture footage during Spring Training in Clearwater, Florida.

The details of the press release alone should be enough to make you want to watch, but after watching the preview, I'm officially in. The schedule is below if you want to mark your calendars....

I wish I was joking about that above headline, but according to the Miami Herald, it's true. FOX analyst Jimmy Johnson was all set to go on Survivor, but after one of his physicals revealed a blockage in an artery, he was told to stay home....

The need to compete did sneak up on Johnson in the oddest of ways recently, though. Survivor is one of his favorite shows. And he wanted to be on it. So he went out back on the private beach, Rhonda with the video camera, and explained to the producers why he should be allowed even though he worked for a rival network. He filled out thick files of paperwork and signed contracts. He got his yellow-fever shots. And he was headed to Africa for 45 days of seclusion when the doctor called about some of his tests. One artery to his heart was totally blocked, another blocked 70 percent. He wouldn't be going anywhere. He has lost 30 pounds since. No more big bowls of butter-pecan ice cream before bed. And now the big, bad leader of violent men sheepishly orders the lighter dish when Honeybun says no to the prime-rib wrap.

Dammit! How awesome would it have been to have that little leprechaun running around on an island with kids half his age? I'm thinking that now that his health is better, he needs to revisit this idea of his.

Jimmy Johnson living in luxury with football a distant memory (Miami Herald)

The NBC sure to be blockbuster hit, "I'm A Celebrity....Get Me Out Of Here", kicks off next week, and some of the show's "stars" have been doing press this week. Two of those people are Patti Blagoevich and John Salley. Both showed up on the oh-so-entertaining Good Day L.A. via satellite recently, and after some awkward questions on delay, host Steve Edwards decided to try and be funny at John Salley's expense. Let's just say the joke didn't go over too well....

Well that was awkward. I don't know why he thought that would have been funny, but Steve isn't known for his graceful hosting abilities and transitions. Oh and if any of you watch that reality show, I'm disowning you as a reader.

I completely forgot to check out the debut of "4th and Long" when it aired, but lucky for me, Spike puts full episodes up on its website. Not only was the show hilarious, mainly because of Michael Irvin being dressed in all black and channeling his inner Jerry Jones, but because just about every contestant threw up. Let's go to the montage!

I love how Irvin just randomly appears and then disappears into the tunnel. He's like a ghost, I tell you! Well a ghost dressed in an all-black Armani suit. Still though, I'm kind of digging the show, and I'm definitely going to watch next week.

4th and Long: The Puking-est Show on TV (TSB)

Every channel is looking to fill holes in their programming with a reality show these days, and Sports based ones seem to be the most popular. Well NBC is getting in on the trend as well, and will be airing a women's MMA reality program this fall. Via Chicago MMA....

Ultimate Women’s Combat is a television show that focuses on 16 female Mixed Martial Arts fighters as they attempt to make a name for themselves in the rough and tumble world of professional cage fighting. Many of these combatants have been connected to male fighters and trainers their entire careers. It’s now time for them to step out of the shadows and into the fire! Throughout the show the audience will get to know these warriors not only as fighters but as women who have lives, responsibilities and experiences that extend beyond the cage. The 16 female fighters include Felice Herrig, Angela Magana, Angela Hayes, Melissa Steele, Roxy Richardson, Lauren Sugahara, Kerry Vera, Michelle Vera, Moroeles Coenen, Casey Noland, Molly Helsel, Vanessa Mariscal, Jessica Aguilar, Martha Benavides, and Kate McGray (fight roster subject to change).

Obviously they would be better served if they could pull Gina Carano, but this little program could be a hit. There's something about attractive women fighting each other, that guys seem to enjoy.

Felice Herrig's Upcoming Reality Show To Air On NBC (Chicago MMA)

The Dallas Cowboys have gone out on a limb, and promised a roster spot to whomever wins the Michael Irvin hosted "4th and Long", with a roster spot. Well that process begins tonight when the show kicks off on Spike at 10pm. Here's a little video on the participants, and a list of the celeb guest stars, if you're interested....

Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin and Spike TV are on a quest to give a football hopeful a shot at making the Dallas Cowboys roster in the new series “4th and Long.” Premiering on Monday, May 18 (10:00-11:00pm ET/PT), Spike TV will chronicle the rigorous training, heated competition, and compelling moments among 12 talented unsigned football players – individuals who either blew their first shot at making the NFL, or never had one to begin with. In a 10-week training camp, Irvin will offer his wealth of experience and guidance to mold them into NFL-caliber players. Each week a different contestant will be cut, with the eventual victor heading to training camp with football’s legendary franchise, the Dallas Cowboys.

The twelve players participating (6 wide receivers and 6 defensive backs) have impressive pedigrees including high-school All-Americans, Arena League MVP’s and starters at Division 1 college programs such as the University of Texas, University of Oklahoma, University of North Carolina and the University of Tennessee.

Former NFL All-Pro Bill Bates will coach the defensive backs and former Dallas special-teams coach, Joe Avezzano will oversee the wide receivers. Guest stars on “4th and Long” include Pro Football Hall of Famers Jerry Rice, Tony Dorsett, and Roger Staubach along with current and former Cowboy greats Drew Pearson, Daryl Johnston, Jay Novacek, Nate Newton, Darren Woodson, Terence Newman, and Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson. I don't know about this one, but at least I've heard of a few of the guys involved. The show really just seems like a Hard Knocks ripoff, but with less people. And the big question is whether this is a guarateed roster spot, or just a chance to come to camp? Interesting idea, but it might not pan out for Spike.

Yes! Our prayers have been answered folks. A week or so ago, I mentioned that the Bengals were being considered for the HBO show Hard Knocks, and today the team will announce that they are accepting the cable channel's offer. Via the Cincy Inquirer....

The Bengals are expected to be officially named on Thursday as the team that will appear on HBO’s “Hard Knocks: Training Camp.”

The team has scheduled a noon press conference at Paul Brown Stadium to make “an announcement regarding a major development for the Bengals 2009 preseason."

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis and NFL Films President Steve Sabol are expected to be among the speakers.

The Bengals would be the fourth team to appear on the HBO series. Lewis was the defensive coordinator at Baltimore during the first season in 2001. Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer appeared in the second season in 2002, which featured Dallas.

That is just about the best news, I've heard in awhile. If there are not solo story lines following Chris Henry and Andre Smith, I'm going to be very upset. Good job, HBO.

'Hard Knocks' taps Bengals (Cincinnati Inquirer)

A month ago, the news dropped that ABC was bringing back its 70s and 80s show "The Superstars". Well today they released the supposed "superstars" that would be competing in the show, and there's some interesting names on the list. Including T.O., Robert Horry and the return of Rock and Jock stud, Dan Cortese! Via Sports Business Daily....

ABC announced the cast of eight athletes who will star in "The Superstars," scheduled to premiere on the network June 23. They are former tennis player Jennifer Capriati, WPS FC Gold Pride F Brandi Chastain, former NBAer Robert Horry, former MLBer Jeff Kent, freestyle skier Kristi Leskinen, WNBA Sparks F Lisa Leslie, U.S. Olympic skier Bode Miller and Bills WR Terrell Owens. They will be paired with eight celebrities: actor David Charvet (Capriati), "Dancing With The Stars" performer Maksim Chmerkovskiy (Leskinen), actor Dan Cortese (Leslie), "Extreme Makeover" star Paige Hemmis (Miller), singer Julio Iglesias Jr. (Chastain) and actresses Joanna Krupa (Owens), Ali Landry (Kent) and Estella Warren (Horry). The eight teams "will compete weekly in events including swimming, biking, running and kayaking." The six-week show, which will be taped at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, will see one team "eliminated each week, leading up the finals." The show is a remake of the classic series that debuted in the mid '70s.

Man, I'm not normally into cheesy reality shows, but this looks like it has potential. Throw in some good athletes, a few attractive females and you've got yourself a winner.

Baby, You're A Star (Sports Business Daily - $)

Even though Terrell Owens has moved to a much smaller market in Buffalo, VH1 still plans to debut the controversial wide receiver's reality show this Summer. Via the Democrat and Chronicle....

VH1 acknowledged Tuesday that the company is in production with T.O. for a reality show that profiles his life off the field. Brett Henne, VH1's senior vice president of communications and Public Affairs, said he also learned of Owens' move to Buffalo through the media, but that "we're sure the show will tape sometime in Buffalo."

Currently referred to as "The Terrell Owens Project," the show is slated for an August primetime premiere on the cable channel.

VH1 President Tom Calderone, a Buffalo State graduate, said the show was green-lit for production two to three months ago and was just beginning to film in Dallas. Now, he said production crews are regrouping to determine how Buffalo and this latest storyline will fit into the show.

While the original project may be slightly changed, a January press release from VH1 said the show will shadow T.O. and two of his best friends who also serve as his female publicists.

I actually take back the word "controversial", I used when describing Owens above. See the thing about controversial people and reality shows, is that people are actually interested in their daily lives. I can't for the life of me, think of a reason to watch a T.O.-based reality show. So I would like to change "controversial" to "annoying" please. Thank you.

Bills' Terrell Owens to star in reality show on VH1 (Democrat and Chronicle)

Every network has a reality show or two these days, and now the MLB Network is getting into the game. The newly formed Baseball network will be following the Phillies Bullpen around in a new show called "The Pen". Via MLB....

MLB Productions has been in Phillies camp the past week shooting footage for the debut episode of "The Pen," an inside look at the Phillies' bullpen, which is scheduled to debut June 1 on MLB Network. It will be MLB Network's first original programming.

"I think it'll be pretty neat," righty reliever Clay Condrey said.

MLB Productions chose the Phils' bullpen for a couple of reasons: First, it had tremendous success in 2008. And second, it has diverse personalities.

Six weekly episodes are scheduled to run through the All-Star break. The series is expected to show how a bullpen works, as well as how individual pitchers work together and rely upon each other throughout the course of the season. The show also will visit with the pitchers off the field to give viewers a sense of their personalities and interests.

Camera crews are expected to be with the team a few times a month, so they won't be followed everywhere (this isn't "Big Brother" or "The Real World").

Not a bad idea, and as long as they keep it simple, it could be an interesting watch. I think the rule of thumb with reality TV these days, is to just the opposite of what the crazy MTV and VH1 shows are doing. Well at least when it comes to Sports.

The show debuts on June 1st, and I'll be sure to grab some clips for those of you in Philly who don't have the MLB Network.

Bullpen to have own reality show (MLB)

I know all of you saw Aubrey O'Day's Playboy spread that just came out recently, but if you didn't you can click on this very NSFW link if you would like to see them. What does this have to do with anything you ask? Well the Danity Kane singer (who knew?) and Puffy confidant, called into the Boomer and Carton Show today, and decided to hang up on the hosts.

According to Sports Radio Interviews, Carton asked O'Day a series of questions that we're obviously too personal, one about dating Puffy, and she got pissed and ended the call. Here's the audio of the hangup, and the aftermath....

No, it's not exactly what you think. There will be know cheerleading, or will it be involved in Sports in any way. No, three USC Song Girls will be on the new E! reality show, "Hot Girls in Scary Places". I wish I was kidding about that title. Via The Hollywood Reporter....

E! has ordered a reality project that puts an all-girl spin on the paranormal investigation genre.

The show is titled "Hot Girls in Scary Places" and stars three University of Southern California cheer squad friends challenged to spend the night in a supposedly haunted abandoned hospital and compete for a $10,000 cash prize.

"They're totally scared and totally believe experiences they're going through," executive producer Gary Auerbach said.

"Hot Girls" will premiere as a special/backdoor pilot and is tentatively scheduled to air Friday, March 13. The project is from Go Go Luckey (A&E's "Paranormal State" and Animal Planet's "Jockeys").

Unbelievable. I mean, I can't believe that they think that Americans are such dumb animals, that they would watch this nonsense! (Pssst...E! What time does it start?)

There's been a lot of talk about Cowboy-based reality talk shows as of late, but this Michael Irvin appearance got lost in the midst. The Playmaker was a guest star on the USA show Burn Notice, and all-in-all, he wasn't half bad. Sure he played a Football Coach, and got beat up, but still good....

The guy does have a certain charm about him, I'll admit that. And to all of you who told me that Burn Notice was a great show, and I scoffed at, I apologize. Great show and good to see Irvin making something of his post-ESPN career.

I've purposely avoided the whole Irvin-Aikman-Romo talk, because I'm sick of talking about the Cowboys when they didn't even make the postseason, but this item I just couldn't pass up. Spike TV is giving Michael Irvin his own reality show, which will be debuting this Spring. Here's the press release via Barry Horn at the Dallas Morning News....

NFL Hall of Famer and Dallas Cowboy icon Michael Irvin has teamed up with 3 Ball Productions, the successful reality television company, to develop an original Spike TV series. This untitled Michael Irvin/Dallas Cowboys project was created by Irvin and his production company, Playmaker Productions, and features twelve amateur hopefuls who will move to Dallas and compete against one another to earn a shot at a coveted spot in Dallas Cowboy training camp next summer and potentially a spot on the team.

This untitled Michael Irvin/ Dallas Cowboys project will premiere in the spring of 2009 and will feature Irvin as on-air talent, keeping a watchful eye over the contestants and helping to mold them into champions as they are put through rigorous competition. The twelve football neophytes, six wide receivers and six defensive backs, will be broken into two teams, overseen by notable former Cowboy coaches and players. Guest judges will appear along the way including other former players, coaches, media personalities and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

I'm just as sick as you are of Sports based Reality Shows, but this isn't really THAT bad of an idea. It's like Hard Knocks, but with just one plot line. There is no title yet, and no word if Pacman Jones is a candidate (I kid), but this could turn out to be a good show if done right.

There are some things you just can't make up. ESPN Analyst Keyshawn Johnson is getting his own reality show on A&E, and you'll never what it's going to be about. Go ahead....I'll let you take a few guesses. Football? Nope. How to get him the "damn" ball? Nah. Well does it have anything to do with Sports? Actually no. Make sure you're sitting down for this....

Interior Design.

Seriously. I'm not even remotely kidding. The show, called “Keyshawn Johnson: Tackling Design”, will premier in 2009 and will air as as a part of A&E's Saturday lineup, "The Big Fix". Here's your official press release....

And given the pressures and personalities, Johnson's famous temper is sure to be put to the test.

I don't even have something clever or cute to say right now. I'm shocked....SHOCKED! I mean, I know he won a fashion award recently, but this is just out of nowhere. I think I need a nap because my mind is straight blown right about now.
