A Holiday Wish Come True: Brett Favre, The Cowboys And Patriots Are Out Of The Playoffs
Sunday, December 28, 2008
FOX and CBS are probably throwing shit against the wall right about now, but the rest of America is thanking their lucky stars for the Ravens, Eagles, Raiders and Texans. Why is that? Well because it knocks the Jets, Cowboys and Patriots out of this season's playoffs....HUZZAH!

Favre takes the last play of the season off...what a gamer he is. My guess is that espn or nbc didn't mention this fact.
*Takes off Romo thong with matching Farve jock strap and walks to shower in shame*
Since the Patriots missed the playoffs with an 11-5 record, I bet some people with call for some type of change to the system.
I don't think anything should change, though. If you want to go to the playoffs, win more games.
It is what it is. I'd like to see the days of 3 divisions in each conference, but its hard to do that with 32 teams.
I like the idea of going back to 3 divisions. It will award a playoff home game to division runners-up with better records than the Arizonas and San Diegos of the league.
America is celebrating this. No Belichick, so we don't need to hear that he's a genius. And no Cowboys so the rest of America doesn't have to put up with Dallas fans. Of course, you won't see them for six months, because they will hide.
You are obviously forgetting the endless "will Favre retire?" talk to come.
As a Patriot fan (sorry everyone), I'm just so disappointed. 11/16 games ended in wins, we started a backup and still had the second highest scoring offense in the league.
Just not a good year for us, but considering all that happened this season at least we hung in there and at least the Jets aren't in.
I don't think Pioli leaves as he gains nothing by leaving. Belichick had another Coach of the Year worthy season that it kills you to admit since he started 49 different players, two times the starting lineup.
Heres to '09 and Jerod Mayos Defensive Rookie of the Year. Hope the Jets have fun with their bust Gholston.
I'll be cheering on the Feel Good Falcons in the playoffs.

You wanna make sure teams like N.E. and Dallas make the playoffs, and teams like AZ don't?(I'm looking at you Cowherd) Do away with divisions completely, and just have an NFC and AFC. That way, the top six teams in each conference get into the playoffs; period.

I'm a Pats fan, and I agree completely.

Anybody else irritated that as soon as NYJ-MIA was over, everybody follows Favre running to the tunnel instead of focusing on the team that won 10 more games this year than it did last year? I'm a New England fan, not a Miami fan, but that irritated the fuck out of me.
I will also be cheering on the Falcons, BTW.
Can I say That I would love to have been on the plane home from Philly to Dallas with the Boys?
How about T.O. sitting on the bench laughing at the end of the game? I put the Over/Under on T.O stories this week at 5.
The only thing I would think about changing is the seeding. A division winner should get in the the playoffs but they shouldn't get a home game if they are 8-8.
Belichick's Revenge: Newsday and Fox Sports are reporting Mangini is out as coach of the J-E-T-S. A press conference is scheduled for 10 AM ET.
BTW the NFL considered changes to the seeding formula this year but decided against it.
the same thing happened in 1985. The Broncos were 11-5 and did not make the playoffs. However, the 8-8 Browns did make it just as the Chargers did this season. It happens sometimes. You never want to have to rely on tiebreakers. They often screw you.
I can't argue that division races add intrigue to the season, keeping more teams alive longer, but why not make a small change to the rules? If a division winner finishes at least 3 games behind another conference team that would otherwise qualify for the playoffs, then that division winner loses its automatic bid.
8-8 division winner stays home and 11-5 team advances.
You keep the interest of division races that a straight 1-6 conf seeding would miss out on, while still eliminating the "once every twenty years" injustices.
Imagine if your team went 12-4 and got to stay home and watch some 7-9 scrub from a crappy division HOST a playoff game. That scenario should not be possible. Change the rule.
Like it or not...ratings will suffer with out those 3 teams
If only the Ravens and their redneck fans could have been added to this list, the day would have been perfect.
