Tony Not Returning To Radio Until After MNF Gig Is Over
Wednesday, December 17, 2008
Tony Kornheiser went on "On The DL" again this week and after a few questions about his work on Monday Night Football and "bloggy news", the ESPNer broke the news that he's only going to be doing MNF for awhile and not radio....
“I don’t want to yo-yo. I don’t want to do it five months on and six months off. Or five months on and seven months off, whatever the math is. I don’t want to do that. So if I’m going to do Monday Night Football...if I’m gonna...then I’m not going to do it. I’m not going to do radio until I can do radio forever.Seems like a smart idea, and hopefully something that will give him time to improve on his work in the booth. Like him, I think the three are working much better this year, but still have some holes in their game. A lot of that has to do with the crappy games they've had this year, but also a lot to do with them still defining their own roles.
“Right. There is no radio, as long as I’m doing football. But I’ll happily be a guest on anybody else’s radio show whenever they want me. I loved it. I love radio. To do it for a while and stop becomes more painful than not doing it at all.”
Oh, and everyone also give a round of applause to Dan Levy on his 100th show! Congrats.

This jackass spent most of the game in a passive-aggressive battle of wits with Jaws, which was really annoying.
He is simply a hack. Nothing will improve his weird personality, so why the hell is he even doing this gig?
I agree. I can't watch a MNF game without yelling at least once for him to just shut the hell up. He can be effective (but probably not) if he learns less is more. There isn't a need to ramble on and on and on about a single topic. It's irritating as hell at times.
But with that said, I think he is really good on PTI and radio. You just have to know you're strengths and live game action isn't Tony's strength. Hopefully ESPN recognizes this and will mercifully take him out of the booth for next year.
I must say, making fun of Dr. Kornheiser almost every week and is becoming sort of a habit for me. I might actually miss him if he does leave. Not that he's a good broadcaster, mind you, but just becaue he's so fun to laugh at and make fun of on here.
Today on PTI: "I love Brett Favre."
ENOUGH ALREADY!
Once again, I call for the restoration of TRTIMP*, Theismann and Maguire to the MNF booth.
* - The Randomness That Is Mike Patrick.
Spare me from having to listen to Thisman, Maguire and Patrick. Those3 have to be the bigest lunkheads in the history of broadcasting. Thisman, on those broadcast only cared about telling you how he invented the game of Football. Maguire, only cared about how many hot dogs he was going to have at halftime, and as fas as Patrick goes, he only cared about making some pop culture joke so he could show everyone that he was still hip. And you want this 3 tools back in the booth? Give me a bbreak.
No! I want Mr. Tony back!
I love Tony on PTI and on the radio, but I don't think he's all that good on MNF. That said, I love reading and listening to people bitch about him (and so does ESPN). That provides as much entertainment as most of the MNF games that ESPN gets.
I know that people dislike Tony's work on MNF, but if I had to chose between Tony in the booth or the trio of Maguire, Theisman and Patrick, I would cohose Tony 1.000 % over those 3 nit-wits.
Theesman and MacGuire actually like the game, and although they were not great, cared enough about the game to not go off on idiotic tangents.
They argued about football, not interpersonal relationships.
Tony sucks. He sucks really bad.
There have actually been some good exciting games on MNF this season but in the blowouts, Kornheiser becomes hard to take. Tony sounds a lot like one of my co-workers who thinks he knows football but in reality is just trying to get under my skin. Jaworski succinctly puts Tony in his place and I commend him for his patience.
Fire Tony! I need him back on the radio!
TK admits he knows NOTHING about football
While Tony's work on Monday Night Football can be controversial at times, his work on PTI is always entertaining. But much better than either is his radio time. His personality is wonderful on radio. The show he had last year with Nigel, Jeanne, Liz, Brendan, Joe, etc. and the regular callers including Howard Fineman, Gene Robinson and of course John Feinstein was great. I so look forward to his firing by MNF so we can get him full time on radio. The show deserves to be in the Radio Hall of Fame.
As long as this means that Tony will be significantly better in the booth then I am down with it.
