Rob Parker Publically Apologizes On ESPN, Marinelli Not Accepting
Monday, December 22, 2008
I missed this earlier, but Rob Parker went on ESPN2 to talk with Michael Kim, and the network gave Parker the opportunity to publicly apologize on National Television. Here's the clip in case you haven't seen it yet....
The more I think about it, the more I do think it was an attempt at humor, but also an extremely bad one. The odd part is that while Parker maintains that he and Marinelli are on good terms, the Coach is actually not currently forgiving the beat reporter. Via MLive....
"Anytime you attack my daughter, I've got a problem with that. In a room of stink ... and as a man and it was premeditated. I think there was something wrong with that, yeah.''There are obviously worse things that Parker could have said when referring to Marinelli's daughter, but I think the general rule of thumb is that you just leave people's family members out of any discussion.
When asked about Parker's apology column, Marinelli said: "I didn't read it, but I was told a little bit about it. I don't accept anything. There are so many times people will say ... I had an assistant coach (Jim Colletto) one time make a remark with you guys that he didn't want to embarrass a player (Drew Stanton), did he take that remark back? Would you guys let him? No, you went from our practice field and ran to the locker room and put a microphone in front of the player -- and (the coach) didn't mean it that way. Do you remember that? To me, this is worse. Because his intent was to stir me up which is never going to happen. I can shoulder anything you bring. Easy. I can shoulder anything you bring.''

don't you wish you had a better sister so i could fuck her 49er16?
AA,
Why are you being so soft on Parker? He wasn't trying to make a joke. Isn't that obvious?
Was it levity also when Parker said Hansborough and Kevin Love wouldnt make it in the NBA because they are white?
Parker is an idiot, but he has a much better chance at keeping his job than Marinelli does.
Parker is a jerk off, but he won't be fired because if he was, Rev. Al & Jesse would be screaming about it being a racial thing. As someone already mentioned, there was no consequences for Parker's analysis of Hansborough & Love - that they would be terrible NBA players because they are white. Parker is a racist & a shitty reporter to boot. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised - Detroit is the cesspool of America.
This is what happens when you have quota hires. Jemele Hill and Scoop Jackson fit into that category too.
This has nothing to do with race, people.
Just a reminder guys, if things go as planned we've got the MNF live-blog at my place!

Oh yeah, Parker is stupid for trying to put family in there....he should be canned.
Yes, it is best to leave family members out...unless you overdose on medication. If that happens, then just say it was your daughter like Isiah.
Well, we're not sure if S2N is coming on here to do the live blog or not. Hearing Dr. Kornheiser whine about the cold should be fun.
Let me tell you what, it is 15 degrees warmer where I am compared to the temperature at kickoff time in Chicago, and let me tell you what, it is frigid
Oh yeah, Parker is still a douchebag. Good for Marinelli to throw that a-hole under the bus. Now he'll whine at how white coaches can't make it and won't get hired. Oh, wait....
Live blog is underway!

In some circles blackface is an attempt at humor as well...what say you, Rob Parker?
What would be the scenario were Rod's daughter to have a black husband?
Parker wouldn't say shit.
He is a Grade A asshole.
"Hey Rod, over here, your daughter married an idiot! Don;t you wish he wasn't in your family so I could stop talking bad about him?'
What a fuckin prick that guy is.
Jeezis, are there ANY "sports journalists" who aren't complete fuckwads?
I love *sarcasm* how AA try's to walk the fine line of pointing the finger of shame at Parker, yet saying "gee, there's worse things he coulda said in his poor attempt at 'humor'".
I guess the media, or those who want to be media, try and stick together no matter what. Had a player done this, AA would have been all over his ass.
Scott F is a dumb fuck. H Wags its not race idiot. How do you know Rob isnt fucking white woman? Marinelli is a fucking joke who cant coach anyway. The Lions are a joke and all of the racist white people on this site are a fucking joke too. As a white person I am ashamed at how stupid white people can be.
"I can shoulder anything you bring. Easy. I can shoulder anything you bring.''
Marinelli went on to say, "I'm a man! I'm 59!"
While not a big fan of Parker, this particular incident had ZERO to do with race. It was clearer an attempt at a joke -- he started with, "On a lighter note, do you wish...".
Also, AA's comment that "...you just leave people's family members out of any discussion" is kind of hard when his SON-IN-LAW is the D Coordinator of the WORST defense in many years. Marinelli may be lauded as a "good guy" but has BS answers to why his D Coordinator got the job and has kept a job after simply atrocious performances are pathetic. Marinelli should not have engaged in nepotism in the first place.
First of all anonymous (at 9:39am), do not try to pass as some white guy. I bet you’re as white as a lump of coal.
I would say that Slob Parker's rant towards Marinelli itself was not race induced (although I am sure that he has a huge smile on his face knowing that a white coach went 0-16). But the fact that he was not fired after the incident has every thing to do him being a black male. Period. If any white male had made those comments (especially if it were a black coach) they would be strung up on the public stage and "made an example of how we at the Detroit News will not tolerate any of our employees being so insensitive and unprofessional." But alas they can't because he is a black man. Plain and simple. If anyone disagrees with this they are simply not being intellectually honest.
These are dangerous times my friends, dangerous times indeed.
Parker is still a douche.
