Your Madden '10 Player Ratings Are Out

Every year I take great pride in picking apart the Madden player ratings, and this year's crop of scores is pretty darn interesting. The biggest shock has to be Nnamdi Asomugha in a tie as the top defensive player with Albert Haynesworth), Polamalu and Ed Reed, but there are certainly a lot more to debate as well. Two to discuss are Donovan McNabb being higher than Philip Rivers, and DeAngelo Williams tied for the third best RB ahead of Portis, Jackson and Gore. Here are the top ten for each position....

Running Backs:

2. Michael Turner- 95
3. LaDainian Tomlinson- 94
3. Brian Westbrook- 94
3. DeAngelo Williams- 94
6. Clinton Portis- 93
7. Steven Jackson- 92
8. Frank Gore- 91
9. Brandon Jacobs- 90
9. Thomas Jones- 90

Wide Receivers:

1. Larry Fitzgerald- 99
2. Andre Johnson- 98
3. Steve Smith- 97
4. Randy Moss- 96
5. Reggie Wayne- 95
6. Anquan Boldin- 94
6. Roddy White- 94
8. Brandon Marshall- 92
8. Calvin Johnson- 92
10. Terrell Owens- 91

Tight Ends:

1. Tony Gonzalez- 98
2. Jason Witten- 97
3. Antonio Gates- 95
4. Chris Cooley- 91
4. Dallas Clark- 91
6. Kellen Winslow- 90 7. Heath Miller- 88 8. John Carlson- 87
9. Zach Miller- 86
9. Owen Daniels- 86

Defense:

1. Nnamdi Asomugha (CB, Oakland Raiders)- 99
1. Albert Haynesworth (DT, Washington Redskins) - 99
1. Ed Reed (S, Baltimore Ravens)- 99

5. Patrick Willis (LB, San Francisco 49ers)- 98
5. Jared Allen (DE, Minnesota Vikings)- 98
5. DeMarcus Ware (LB, Dallas Cowboys)- 98
8. Kevin Williams (DT, Minnesota Vikings)- 97

I gotta know who's the worst rated guy in the game. That's worth a post on its own... maybe over on KSK, maybe here. Maybe both!

Frank Gore should be higher than Steven Jackson.

why is Asomugha a shock AA? Since you watch too much ESPN, I think you might have a little east coast bias:)

^^^I hope it's still Redskins longsnapper, Ethan Albright.

Thomas Jones is not a 90...more like a 76.

I don't see Matt Orlovsky anywhere on that list.

Can't imagine why.

Tony Gonzalez from 2003 might rate a 98. The 2009 version ... not so much.

Great ratings overall, but how Steve Smith is one point better than Randy Moss, I don't know.

Hyperbole aside, Matt Ryan should be close to a 90 (thus, making the top ten cutoff).

@t2ed...

Matt Orlovsky probably won't make the list

you might find his step-brother's uncle's third cousin twice removed Dan Orlovsky near the bottom of the list though

Theres no way Moss is only 4th out of all WR's, he should be at the top of the list, at least tied with fitzgerald. Matty Ice is better than Romo, Cutler and Phil Rivers, and theres no way Tony Gonzalez is the best TE in the league anymore, he must have a deal with EA because he is overrated in Madden Every Year.

Everyone who talking bout Gonzalez needs to calm down. In case you don't know, he is one of the best Tight Ends in HISTORY!

Ya one of the best Tight Ends in HISTORY, but thats just it, History, you can't bring walkers on to the field last time I checked. I think he is gonna be good still, but far from the best.

Thomas Jones? Seriously? His backup is better than he is. And how is Ronnie Brown not in the top 10. He made the Pro Bowl last year less than a year after tearing his ACL.

And how is the NFL MVP Runner up not crack a 90 rating? Chad Pennington was kicked off the Jets and came to Miami mid-preseason and led the greatest turnaround in NFL history.

The people who do the ratings need to stop watching ESPN and do some real research.

Thomas Jones was the AFC rushing leader and a starter in the Pro Bowl. 76... I think not.

Ronnie Brown and Matt Forte aren't in the top ten because they aren't top 10 running backs. Jones had a higher average yards per attempt than both of them. Jones - 4.5 Brown - 4.3 Forte - 3.9

As for Matt Ryan, he had a great ROOKIE season, but he did not put up elite numbers. I do believe that he will be an elite player in the future but lets give him a few years.

Please make DeMarcus Ware a 99. He has no reason to not be a 99 after his amazing season last year. Come on he had 20 sacks last year. HE needs to be a 99.

You people are so stupid, Tony Gonzalez is the best tight end of all time statistically, thats like saying that Greg Jennings is better than Jerry Rice. And Michael Turner was better than LT last year and thats what this is based off of, LT was only good because of an incredible offensive line and slightly over average running ability. And why the hell is Randy Moss so unbelievably low on the list, hes the best reciever in the league right now!! And why the shit is Chad Ocho Cinco and Asante Samuel on the list!?

And Tom Brady will allways be better than Peyton Manning, ALWAYS.

And Thomas Jones was the AFCs leading rusher last year. If you don't know what you're talking about don't confuse people by giving stupid biased information.

the ratings are based off of the players statistical perfomances from last season. ochocinco was a bum. matt ryan was solid, but his numbers werent great. tony gonzalez is still the best tight end in the league. no one else runs routes like him or has hands like him. the only other guys that are even close ARE jason witten and antonio gates.
they also are rated on their skill sets like accuracy, speed, etc, but not on being a team leader or clutch player. i.e. ben roethlisberger is a better qb than kurt warner overall but kurt is a better passer
so everyone should shut up and think before they speak

Where Is Reggie Bush In The Top Ten For 'Running Backs'?

Anonymous said...
Jul 15, 2009, 12:48:00 AM

Are you kidding? Reggie Bush isn't even close to top ten if he's rated over 83 he too high. He can receive but he cant run the ball.

Brian Westbrook should be at least 96 he didnt have a great season but Tom Brady is still a 98.

If this list is based on last years performance then LT, Tom Brady, and Carson Palmer should not even be on the top ten list. I don't care what they have done in the past. Now onto the top defensive players other than Ed Reed and Demarcus Ware there should not be no one higher rated then Joey Porter. If I remember correctly he had a better season then most of the people on that list. Including Albert Haynesworth who plays two plays out of a series.

I know Randy Moss is rated low, but as for the guys above him, I think that they are the only ones who could possibly be better. Larry Fitzgerald had an amazing playoff run last year in terms of not only statistics, but also highlights (plus, he is on the cover, so EA would naturally boost his rating). Andre Johnson would be the best receiver in the league if he played anywhere but Houston because Schaub is an average QB and their OL is terrible. Steve Smith is the only viable offensive option in Carolina outside of running the ball and is almost always double teamed. Plus, he can return kicks. Randy Moss on the other hand was thrown to by Matt Cassel who, while doing an admirable job in Brady's stead, did not match the amazing season Brady had. Besides this, Moss' stats may be skewed by the fact that Wes Welker is also on the field to take away chances. While Randy Moss should be rated higher, he shouldn't be rated any higher than the above three receivers.

How did moss do in Oakland with an average qb and was the only viable threat other then Jerry porter (if you could call him a viable threat). And in Minnesota he had a team that shoulda played in the supper bowl, also he had Carter lining up on the opposite side. When a offense has many offensive threats it spreads the coverage around and doesn't allow them to focus on a single player. He's great but not rediculous.

Where is Maurice Jones Drew? Matt ryan belongs in the top 10. Wes Welker!? maybe not a big play reciever but the best slot man in the game.

Aug 13, 2009, 6:52:00 PM

Whoever said Reggie Bush belongs in the top 10 is on drugs. He is fast and he can catch but he is not one of the more elite backs in the league.

Where is Ronni Brown at? and the defensie player of the year not in the top ten defensive plyers. what?

Unknown said...
Aug 13, 2009, 6:55:00 PM

You're all idiots, well not all, but people need to stop having opinions and realize that Madden base what they do on facts only. Randy Moss looks good because of the supporting cast. Everyone will notice that his stats last year were nothing compared to when Brady was throwing to him.
Really the only blemishes Madden made were leaving Demarcus Ware and James Harrison so low.

EA needs to get their heads out their ass. Dolphins are way higher than a 77, how did Bills & Jets get 78s, we're AFCE Champs for f*sake!! Jake Long is not a 91 more like an 85, Tedd Ginn Jr & Davone Bess are both at least 80s, Kurt Warner is crap, he should definitely have his OVR knocked down after the way he got ripper apart by the Colts defence. Thomas Jones & Michael Turner should NOT be in the 90s, Turner tied in 2nd with Chad Pennington for MVP and i don't see Pennington in the top 10 QBs. Romo is shit!! He gets picked so many times he should be a nose, he isn't even an 80!! And seriously, where is Brett Favre in the top 10?? How Adrian Peterson is the top Running Back I have no idea, we have all seen his low carrying rating in past Madden titles, so how can you be a highly rated back if you're gonna drop the ball everytime you get hit (Tim Hightower knows how that feels) Brandon Marshall & Rodday White should not be top 10 WRs either, how did they get there!! AND ON DEFENSE, WHERE THE HELL IS JOEY PORTER!! SERIOUSLY PEOPLE, HE'S ONE OF THE BEST LINEBACKERS IN THE NFL AND HE DOESN'T MAKE THE TOP 10, WHAT IS HAPPENEING!!

...and this is a plead to everyone, please get the stick out your asshole, Randy Moss is not that great, yeah he takes one handed spectacles once in a while but if you want great receivers, look at Steve Smith at Panthers or Reggie Wayne & Pierre Garcon at Colts or even Wes Welker who plays at Pats with Moss, there aren't many players that can score touchdowns off of short passes like Welker does (who i have to say is an ex Dolphin)

Overall, EA's ratings are bullshit, they need to get this sorted and get rid of their obvious predjuidice towards Miami Dolphins...thanx

wow dude the dolphins suck last year was a glitch were everything bounced your way you cant get lucky every year at least not this year unless brady gets a season ending injury o and moss has played way better than steve smith and ted gin jr has i nowhere to be found like milk carton status same thing for pennington maybe henne will be your savior
