The Celtics Turn To Glen Davis For The Win....Wait, Who?

Monday, May 11, 2009

Ray Allen has hit what seems like fourteen buzzer beaters during these Playoffs, and Paul Pierce had an amazing game last night. However, it was Big Baby who the Celtics decided to take the last shot, and he didn't disappoint....

My favorite part is when he lightly shoves the Magic fan in the white t-shirt. Well that and of course the call by Marv Albert. Great play though, and with that win, you already know that the Celtics are taking this series over now.

The NHL Playoffs, Now With Buzzer Beaters

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

I don't know if you've been following the NHL Playoffs, but they're putting the NBA to shame with some of the action that's gone on. Well, if there's one thing that could actually get you tune in, it's this. During last night's Carolina-New Jersey game, something happened that I never thought I'd see. A goal was scored at the end of the third period, with 0:00 on the clock....

Technically that was with .2 secs left on the clock, but you get the idea. Just a crazy play and a great call there at the end. I'm telling you, you should definitely be watching.

Ray Allen Would Like You To Know That The Celts Can Win Without KG

Monday, April 20, 2009

I still think the Celtics are employing a WWE-style storyline, with Kevin Garnett coming out of the locker room during the fourth game of the Eastern Conference Finals, but they have to get there without him first. Thanks to Ray Allen, they can actually achieve that now....

I wasn't stoked for the NBA Playoffs in the least, but it takes just one game and finish like this, to get you psyched. The Playoffs have officially begun....DAGGER!

The Division Two Basketball Championship Has All The Excitement You Need

Saturday, March 28, 2009

Who cares that three of the four games last night were blowout? Especially when you have high scoring DII action the following day! Well high scoring is a bit of an overstatement, considering the final score was 56-53....in overtime, but it gave us the first official buzzer beater of March Madness....

With that win, Findlay also finished 36-0 on the season. Pretty impressive if you ask me. March officially got exciting....too bad no one was watching.

The C.I.T. Is More Exciting Than The Big Dance

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

Well okay, that title was a bit of hyperbole, but at least in the C.I.T. we get a buzzer beater or two. Like take this one for example. The powerhouse matchup of Bradley vs. Oakland was decided by one heck of a shot. A 70-footer to be exact....

You know, I actually thought that the C.I.T. was a make believe tourney, but I guess the video proves me wrong. Good stuff.

Dwyane Wade Definitely Has A Case For MVP

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

If it wasn't for Lebron's ridiculous season (28,7,7), Dwyane Wade would be getting the majority of the headlines. Last night's ridiculous 48 point effort, combined with an insane steal/buzzer beater combo, might make people take a second look at their MVP ballot. Here's the clip....

That's just nasty. With a 29.4 ppg average, and a supporting cast nowhere near as good as the other candidates, I think he'd get my vote.

Doug Gottlieb Knows How To Call The End Of A Game

Thursday, February 26, 2009

I don't know if this was a bet, but following a great win the other night by Texas A&M, Doug Gottlieb had a wonderful call to end the game. You may remember one of the better skits on "The Chappelle Show", being that of the Prince story as told by Charlie Murphy. Well here is Gottlieb using one of the more famous lines from that story to close out the A&M-Nebraska game....

"Game blouses!"- Doug Gottlieb

Hilarious. As Panthers' announcer, Randy Moller taught us a week or so ago, there's nothing better than throwing in a pop culture reference during an excitement moment. Good one, Douglas.

Devin Harris Excites Marv Albert

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

I guess it's hard not to get excited when you see a shot from midcourt with 1.8 seconds left. I give you Devin Harris....

My favorite part of that whole clip? Violet Palmer vehemently waving off the shot, while the other refs immediately get ready to head to review the play. What a shot! Oh and according to Brook Lopez, Devin...."You Rock!"....

Being Number One Is Not A Good Place For College Basketball Teams This Year

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

Not sure if you all were watching, and it's been a long time since I've put up a highlights video, but Wake just knocked off number one Duke at the buzzer after a great comeback by the Blue Devils. Here's the end of the game in case you missed it....

That's three number ones to go down in just twelve days, and we're officially in the College Basketball season. Just a great game, and even though I'm not entirely sold on either team as a National Champion (one has too much inside game, one has too much outside), both teams have a shot of going pretty far in the Tourney.

The best part about all of this? Pittsburgh went down tonight, so that means that with a win against Providence (who put up 100 in a win over 'Cuse tonight), UConn will be number one. Why is that significant? Because the day after the Super Bowl, the Huskies travel to current #7 Louisville, and a fifth different number one could be crowned this season.

A Look At The Wild One O'Clock Finishes

Sunday, December 28, 2008

The Vikings clinched with a Longwell field goal (the Bears choked so it didn't really matter), the Bucs gave up their shot in Oakland, and the Panthers bumped the Falcons down to the 5th seed with a kick of their own. Here is how it went down if you missed it....

Let's only hope the 4pm games bring as much excitement (and Dallas is knocked out of the Playoffs).

Cleveland State Beats 'Cuse At The Buzzer, Jim Boeheim Breaks Mics

Monday, December 15, 2008

Cleveland State took out Syracuse with an amazing half court (plus) buzzer beater, and that's obviously the first video below, but the fun didn't stop there. Following that game, we get a hilarious look at Jim Boeheim taking his frustrations out on a microphone....

Great stuff. Even though Syracuse had no business tying that game, I can understand Boeheim's frustration. Mark Cleveland State down for an ESPY now, people!

Your Early Candidate For Buzzer Beater Of The Year

Wednesday, December 03, 2008

Sure it's Division III, and doesn't technically count in the final standings (I kid), but this buzzer beater from Geneseo's Scott Morton to beat Oswego in the battle of SUNY schools....is pretty amazing. And who better to show it to you than our friend Dana? She even has an interview with the kid!

Good stuff Geneseo Knights and Mr. Morton! You have the top spot until Blake Hoffarber once again decides to unleash one of his ridiculous buzzer beaters on the Basketball World.

Arizona Could Be The Dumbest Team Ever

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

If you watched any of the 23-hour College Hoops Marathon on ESPN, you were probably bored through most of the day long extravaganza. It's great that College Basketball is back, but most of the games were blowouts. That was until late last night when Arizona and UAB battled down to the wire and had one of the most bizarre endings you will ever see. College Hoops Journal has the story and the video....

Then, with the score 71-69 after Arizona’s Garland Junkins missed a free throw, Arizona’s Kyle Fogg scrapped up the loose ball and put it in the hoop, tying the game at 71 with :30 seconds remaining. Fogg, not thinking because he was probably told in the timeout before the free throw to foul by the coaches (thinking they’d be down by one or two after the free throw), fouled UAB’s Aaron Johnson....

....So Johnson misses his one-and-one attempt. Jordan Hill grabs the rebound. Arizona calls timeout, sets up a play, and puts it in the hands of Nic Wise. Wise’s shot clanks off the rim with about three seconds to go and UAB’s Paul Delaney (the THIRD) gets the rebound. That’s when Jamelle Horne completely forgets how to play the game of basketball, ignores the fact that the game is tied at 71 and lunges for Delaney III, causing the refs to call an intention foul on Horne, giving UAB two shots and the ball.

That was just flat out wild. I can understand the first foul being a mental error, but how does someone commit a second one like that? Just crazy.

Brandon Roy Is A Golden God

Friday, November 07, 2008

So what did you miss while going to bed early last night? Just a ridiculous finish in the Portland-Houston game that included a three-point play by Yao to put the Rockets up one followed by a ridiculous Brandon Roy three to win it with .08 left on the clock. And that was just in overtime. Let's go to the videotape!

YES! God you gotta love Marv Albert, even though he was about 20 seconds slow on the Yao Ming foul call. I can't emphasize enough how fun the Blazers are to watch. I know I'm about the 100,000th person on the bandwagon, but I'm officially on checked in.

Lebron James Trusts Delonte, Can Someone Say Dagger?

Sunday, April 27, 2008

I'll save you all the bitching about the Wizards, but I knew that weren't winning this game with West and Gibson hitting threes the way they were. Great game for them and here's the shot that knocked the Wizards out of the Playoffs....

Exactly the same shot that Damon Jones hit against the Wizards in 2005-2006 in overtime to win the Series. Also, Cleveland hit 13 of 28 threes and overrated Lebron James finished with 34 points, 12 Rebounds, 7 Assists and 2 steals. Dagger.

Where Duncan For Three Happens

Saturday, April 19, 2008

Amazing first round game going on between the Suns and Spurs this evening. The Spurs have been fighting back all game and needed a Finley three to send it into overtime. So in OT you're the Spurs and you're down three. You obviously run a three point play for.....wait Duncan?!?!?

TIMMMAAAAY! That was Duncan's first three of the year and it sent the game into double overtime. I'll be sure to add the finish in this same spot, but this is a hell of a way to start the Playoffs.

San Diego: German For Whale's Vagina Upset

Friday, March 21, 2008

What's in the water down in Tampa? The Torreros take out the Huskies!!!!

(Video via CHJ)

Just an amazing day of Basketball. Thank you San Diego, Drake, and Western Kentucky. The punch is on me! Oh wait.....

Also, Tim Brando....STFU. Please.

Carmen San Diego? Are you kidding me??? How long had you been saving that one Brando?

‘Which of Course in German Means … A 13 Seed Winner’ (College Hoops Journal)

Damn everyone is going with that title.

(Many thanks to D.Rovell for the post title)

The Drake And WKU Save The Tourney's Opening Round

Man I was dragging until this overtime game between the Hilltoppers and the Bulldogs. WKU was up big in the 2nd half before an awesome run in regulation by Drake that included an amazing dunk and about fourteen 3-pointers.

The end of Overtime included an idiotic foul by WKU with the game tied and 30 seconds left, but it worked out for them somehow....

While this game did destroy my bracket (well it sort of already was) it restored my faith in the Tournament's Opening Round. Great Basketball today and bravo WKU. Also, Tim Brando....could you step it up a notch perhaps? If I'm yelling in my apartment by myself then you could give it a little bit of inflection. Good lord....it's okay to get excited.

101-99 is a heck of a score too. Beats the hell out of 10 points in a half.

Okay This Kid Is Officially A Warlock

Saturday, March 15, 2008

Blake Hoffarber won an ESPY back in the day for winning a Minnesota High School Championship while lying on his back. Well late last night Hoffarber pulled off a ridiculous Christian Laettner-like shot to knock Indiana out of the Big 10 Tournament.....

Amazing. I'm still looking for the Minnesota feed because there could have been a "BING-GO!" type reaction, but that was awesome. Also, the Big Ten refs are just about the worst collection of officials I've ever seen. They've been horrendous this Tournament.

Welcome Back Gilbert

Wednesday, October 31, 2007

Yeah Yeah Yeah. The Wizards lost in overtime, but after the injury plagued 2nd half of the season last year I just happy to see Gilbert back doing what he does best. Hitting Daggers....

P.S.- Can you PLEASE make some free throws next game?!?! That's all I ask.
