The NHL Playoffs, Now With Buzzer Beaters
Wednesday, April 22, 2009
I don't know if you've been following the NHL Playoffs, but they're putting the NBA to shame with some of the action that's gone on. Well, if there's one thing that could actually get you tune in, it's this. During last night's Carolina-New Jersey game, something happened that I never thought I'd see. A goal was scored at the end of the third period, with 0:00 on the clock....
Technically that was with .2 secs left on the clock, but you get the idea. Just a crazy play and a great call there at the end. I'm telling you, you should definitely be watching.

Seriously, it is crazy. Watch Pittsburgh/Philly, Carolina/New Jersey, Anaheim/San Jose, Bruins/Canadiens.
With the exception of the Red Wings-Blue Jackets series, every series has had at least some form of drama and the games have been extremely entertaining. This has blown away the NBA (except for the Bulls-Celtics series) by a mile thus far in terms of close games, drama, intensity, and entertainment. It's no wonder that ratings are more or less up across the entire board of local and national markets. This has been a simply phenomenal playoffs thus far.
You can also add Chicago and Calgary to that list of absolutely can't miss, crazy series. Pierre McGuire nearly got punched in the face on Sunday. Game 4 is tonight and that is definitley a can't miss game.
That goal should not have counted though. The Hurricanes player ran into Brodeur preventing him to make the save. It should have been waived off.
Forget the last-second goal....Jersey was down 3-0 and made a crazy comeback. Brodeur was playing ridiculously....it couldve have been 5-0 or 6-0 easy. Awesome game...even though as a former Whalers fan...I loathe the Hurricanes.
That goal should not have counted though. The Hurricanes player ran into Brodeur preventing him to make the save. It should have been waived off.I completely understand what you are saying, but in the playoffs, generally the refs are going to let that one go. Would something like that have been called in the middle of January in the middle of the 2nd period of a game? Most likely. But in the playoffs the refs tend to let them play on a little more, as they should in post-season play, and that's exactly what happened here.
If the refs do call that and the Devils win in overtime, then I can pretty much guarantee you that Hurricane fans would be just as, if not more angry than Devils fans are right now and rightfully so.
The goal was a goal because Brodeur came out of his crease and it was incidental contact, which is legal when the goal is out of his crease.
Just avoid the Red Wings/CBJ series...ghastly.
