FOX Makes Wholesale Changes To NFL Booths

Friday, August 14, 2009

The same players have been in the FOX NFL booths on Sundays, for the past few years, but with the addition and subtraction of some announcers, the NFL on FOX has had to make some changes. Gone are Brian Baldinger, J.C. Pearson, Tony Boselli and Matt Vasgersian. In are Chris Myers (from the sideline to the booth) John Lynch, Trent Green, and The Greatness that is Charles Davis. Here are your new teams for this season....

Joe Buck and Troy Aikman
Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, Tony Siragusa
Dick Stockton and Charles Davis
Thom Brennaman and Brian Billick
Sam Rosen, Tim Ryan
Ron Pitts and John Lynch
Chris Myers and Trent Green

While I think both Lynch and Green will do a good job, Stockton and Davis has to be the most hilarious pairing in the history of the NFL. I'm going to have way too much fun with that one.

Oh my, Stockton and Davis could actually be the force that destroys the NFL.

I have a bad feeling that I'm going to see a lot of Myers and Green announcing 49ers games.

Kenny Albert and Daryl Johnston are still going to reamin #2 announcing crew for Foc. Brenneman/ Billick are #3 team.

Brennaman and Billick are actually pretty good together and while Stockton isn't as good as he used to be, it's the ultimate middle finger from FOX management that he gets Charles Davis. Davis sucks on NFL Network. I so want Marshall Faulk or Warren Sapp to punch him in the face.

I feel bad for Ron Pitts. He's one of only three football announcers who have been with Fox from the start with no breaks in between and he's never been higher on the pecking order than the E-team (aside from when he was SLR for Pat and John.) He's also probably gone through more partners than anyone else at Fox.

Charles Davis??? Seriously? Who does this guy have dirt on to get the jobs he's getting these days? He is beyond awful.

Also, I don't know if these have been posted here yet, but here the Fox and CBS assignments that are currently known.

Week 1
Eagles @ Panthers - Sam Rosen/Tim Ryan
Lions @ Saints - Chris Myers/Trent Green
Jets @ Texans - Jim Nantz/Phil Simms
Chiefs @ Ravens - Ian Eagle/Rich Gannon

Week 2
Bengals @ Packers - Ian Eagle/Rich Gannon

Week 3
Broncos @ Raiders - Ian Eagle/Rich Gannon
Packers @ Rams - Chris Myers/Trent Green

I take no credit for unearthing this information.

A level: Buck/Aikman, Kenny/Moose/Goose.

B level: Brennaman/Billick, Rosen/Ryan.

Likely assignments in Week 1: Buck/Aikman to 49ers-Cardinals, Kenny/Moose/Goose to Redskins-Giants, Rosen/Ryan to Eagles-Panthers (if confirmed), Brennaman/Billick to Vikings-Browns.

I seriously doubt Buck and Aikman would call 49ers-Cardinals. I do think it's a better game than Redskins-Giants (those are almost always snoozefests), but you have to realize how much Fox loves the NFC East. Take for example, last year, how the Bucs and Falcons were 9-4 and 8-5 respectively. The Redskins were 7-6 and the Bengals were 1-11-1. The Redskins-Bengals game got the higher announcing crew.

The 49ers-Cardinals game will probably be called by Brennaman/Billick or Stockton/Davis.

Cardinals are the defending NFC champions, so it makes sense for Fox to have Buck/Aikman at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Redskins-Giants would air in areas with NFC East teams(Maine to Virginia, plus Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Shreveport).

Even if Joe Montana was the 49ers QB, there's no way that Fox would ever send their No. 1 broadcast team to that game over the Redskins/Giants.

The real reason why Buck/Aikman are doing the Giants game? Fox has Mets-Phillies baseball on 9/12. It's only 90 miles from Citizens Bank Park to Giants Stadium.

Buck isn't doing anymore baseball until the ALCS. I would say that he and Aikman cover WSH/NYG.

Giants-Redskins. National game, two of the more popular and high TV ratings teams in the country (outside of Dallas) and at 4:15 start time against....men's tennis.

Anyone who thinks the A team is going to cover a Cardinals game, let alone one against an also-ran team in their division should NOT be GUESSING TV assignments.

Need to make a correction. Dick Stockton and Charles Davis will be working Eagles at Panthers. Tim Ryan said he would be working that game on his radio show, but I guess Fox switched assignments. I wonder if Vikings at Browns will now get the Buck treatment because of F****.

fox should pair ron pitts with charles davis b/c they look and sound the same, could be the same guy, plus the both played defensive back
ron pitts was a pretty good color commentator until they made him a pbp guy, i do like him & john lynch though
