HBO Releases Cowboys Hard Knocks Promo

Thursday, May 15, 2008

More often than not HBO Spors gets me stoked for an offseason but this is the worst promo the network has ever produced. HBO is going with the Dallas Cowboys for their Hard Knock series and by the tone of their promo.....it's going to be boring as hell....

In all my life I don't think I've seen a more "lip serviced" promo. I love HBO's coverage of Sports, but I think they're going to botch this one big time. Obviously there are certain things they can't cover, but if this is it...I'm out.

(Thanks to KR for the vid)

Steve Sabol - while he owns the company - should not do the voiceovers. Concur on the "lip serviced" comment. A bunch of slo-mo stock footage, dime-a-dozen locker room speech and one behind the scenes moment with poor voicework.

Shoddy work HBO.

Perhaps this is HBO's fuck you to the NFL for canceling Inside the NFL....

What the hell is wrong with you people? I thought the promo was great and the shots were outstanding. Stop being so cynical. Whomever did that promo...well done.

I don't get video at work but I'm imagining that it was a 60 second commercial of Wade Phillips shitting his pants.

This has less of a chance of being successful than 'John From Cincinnati.'

As someone that makes promos for a living (big whoop, I know), I have to agree with AA--pretty blah.

This being a "long lead" promo probably has a lot to do with that. As they get more material I'm sure they will produce something much better.

How can you judge it without even watching it first?

I love the look on Double-J's face when he tells that one player that he's on the team. It's like in his mind every single football player dreams of playing for the Dallas Cowboys.

If I don't hear one "YEEEHAWWW! I AM FUCKING CRAZY!" from Mr. Jones this entire thing will be a wash. If I can't have that, then at least give me a day in the life of Pacman Jones.
