Manchester United And Chelsea Tied 1-1 At The Half
Wednesday, May 21, 2008
I figured since a lot of you are at work and unable to watch the UEFA Final that I'd throw up videos of the goals as they happened. Man U went up with Christiano Ronaldo heading home a cross from Wes Brown in the 26th minute and they appeared to be headed to the half up 1-0. That's when Frank Lampard jammed home a bouncing ball off a defenders back in the 45th minute. We're tied 1-1 at the half and here are your goals...
As far as the announcing goes I'm rather enjoying Derek Rae and Tommy Smyth, but Clarence Seedorf is providing nothing and not even completing his statements. Good thing the Dutch star is heading over to the Deportes booth at halftime.
Things are getting interesting. I'll try to keep you updated.
Update: Drogba just blasted one off the post in the 78th minute. Chelsea is dominating this thing now.
Update #2: Extra time! I'll have the winner for you when it goes down. Wow....another Chelsea shot off the wood work. Lampard nails the crossbar in the 94th.
Update #3: Drogba was just sent off with a red card for barely touching someone. Soccer fights are so weak. Looks like we'll be heading to a shootout.
Also, what's with the fans singing John Denver?

Thanks for making me fall asleep in my cube.
Thanks for the update! 2 things:
a) Tommy Smyth is great. His voice + soccer = beautiful.
b) apparently Chelsea defenders don't feel the need to mark up on Ronaldo? Just a thought, but you're probably going to want to have someone on him at all times.
Jake, the guy is unstoppable. I saw him just completely blow by a defender after about 10 step overs. He was standing still and next thing you know he was 10 yards downfield.
Ok, I gather that because no one here actually regularly watches the Premiership they think Tommy Smyth and Derek Rae are actually good commentators. Note: they are awful (more so Smyth). Smyth knows virtually nothing about the game, his substitution calls are completely wrong, and his analysis of injuries is downright atrocious (read, even Seedorf realized the cut was on Scholes' nose, not his forehead).
As for the game, it's lived up to it's billing for the most part. Great stops from the keepers on both ends. Ronaldo is still a beast and as much as I hate both clubs, I have to give my props to Ronaldo.
Does this go to penalty kicks at some point or is it unlimited sudden death?
tommy is the worst announcer in the game and there is no such thing as sudden death in the champions league
... and for some reason i left out a sentence
you play 30 minutes regardless then goto shootout if its still even
United Roads in a Man U chant...
Wow...I can't believe Ronaldo missed.
WOW he missed everything!
Terry slips.....they had that.
I can't wait to see Mike & Mike do this.
and bandwagoners across the world rejoice! as slightly less annoying bandwagoners cry!
Rae isn't bad for an American-based soccer commentator. I was shocked ESPN picked up the tab to send he and Smyth over to Moscow. Most of the time they're stuck doing pbp in a cramped broom closet in Bristol.
As for John Denver playing before the match, those drunken Englishment love sing-a-long songs. That's the only reason it was playing.
YES!!! WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!
AA, it's not the barely touching someone part, it's dissent at the referee that gets you sent off.
couldn't they have just started with the penalty kicks and everyone could have gone home a few hours early?

be champions
You can get sent off for calling someone a wanker or a poof, too. So it's not necessarily for the slap, but maybe something unseen by the cameras.
Too bad for J Terry to slip like that, I hate anything C Ronaldo and this just adds to it!
I thought the coverage ESPN had was down right awful announcing at it's best
Good lord that kid can jump.
