Woody Paige Calls Out Tony Reali For Some Reason
Friday, May 16, 2008
Around the Horn is like a trainwreck to me. I absolutely hate the format, can't stand the guests, and ultimately despise the show.....but I watch anyway just about everyday. Well I was watching yesterday during a segment where the "gasbags" were arguing about something NBA related when Woody Paige decided to go into a rant all while not answering the question at hand (pretty much par for the course).
Well host Tony Reali decided to question Paige and basically got snapped at by the the Denver Post writer. The fun starts 20 seconds in.
"They're not going to win tonight. You know that."- Paige
"I don't know. I mean that's why we ask the question. We don't know if they're going to win."- Reali
"Of course you don't know, that's why you're not here doing this."- Paige
I know this kind of stuff happens everyday on the show, but that seemed a tad bit defensive didn't it?

Wow, I wish Reali would've destroyed him like you know he wanted to.
"Go cover the high school playoffs". Nice little parting shot Woody. "I know you are but what am I" not available?
I don't know if these media people are 'bitter,' 'clingy,' or both. But clearly the sports media 'gray-hairs' are twisting themselves into pretzels more and more each day: Them against the fans; them against the teams; them against each other. I trace it all back to Al Gore's marvelous invention, the Internet. The Internet spawned blogs and message boards and comments sections. All of a sudden them sports media hacks went from having a one-way monopoly on public discourse to having a two-way superhighway staring them in the face. The anger is palpable; the rage is boiling over: they don't like the fact that their industries are--collectively--collapsing or that the Internet is allowing others to share in what they thought was their birthright.
Wasn't Reali mentioned in the US Today this week or something? Plus, most in the blogosphere give Reali a break despite the show he hosts. Maybe Woody's jealous.

I agree it sounded like there was more to that exchange than just the normal crankiness that is Woody Paige.
I'm glad I don't watch this show on a regular basis. I probably would watch it more often, but it comes on at the same time as Gilmore Girls in my area and I can't miss Lorelai and Rory.
ATH is horrible! However I do like that Reali nailed Woody with his "What sitting in a chair in Denver covering a game in San Antonio? Go out and cover a game Woody." That was great.
Woody Paige is a fucking moron douchnozzle. He should be deported to Whogivesafuckistan.
Worst. Show. Ever.
Last anon, you couldn't be more wrong. No matter how bad ATH is, at least it has never featured Skip Bayless or Stephen A.
You actually watch that show everyday? Wow. Possibly the worse sports show ever created. It makes Best Damn Sports Show Period seem almost tolerable.
I caught a little bit of the show a few days back (ashamedly), and Reali made some comment about everyone "yelling," how he didn't want this to be a "yelling show,' and for everyone to basically shut up. Paige obliged and lowered his voice.
Coupled with this clip, I think Reali is getting tired of the show.
I watch it now and again mainly for Reali, he's really good at maintaining order (I wonder if the mute button was his idea), and his slam on Paige to go out and cover a game was classic.
I wish they'd give him a show with more substance, instead of a bunch of loud-mouthed, obnoxious and talentless sports writers yelling at one another. Paige is awful, Plashke is unlistenable, etc etc. The only one that's good that I can remember is the new kid Israel.
Max Kellerman would've destroyed 'em.
Instead of "Around the Horn", it should be "Assholes Yelling".
I agree with one of the previous posters about missing this garbage and PTI, because I have to visit Stars Hollow once a day.
Ahh, I'm glad I don't watch this show anymore. I feel smarter for doing so.
