Calhoun Talks To CBS About The Press Conference Ambush

Saturday, February 28, 2009

Jim Calhoun sat down with Jim Nantz, in an interview that aired at halftime of the UNC-GT game today, and addressed his feelings following his run-in with a reporter questioning his salary. While the interview basically went the way you would think (Calhoun didn't apologize), it was the reaction of Seth Davis following the piece that caught my attention. Davis stated that he thought that Calhoun should have apologized for the way he handled it, which brought out a tremendous rebuttal from Greg Gumbel. Here's the clip....

"I don't mind the way he handled it, because if your mission is to go out there and be a jerk, and someone recognizes you as such, I don't see a problem with saying you're a jerk."- Greg Gumbel

Well said. Obviously he should have handled it better, but there's no reason for an apology.

Onions by Greg, either though I think they should have JB in the studio.

Gumbel hit the nail right on the head. There is no need for Calhoun to apologize.

Best thing about that whole clip was the Collective Soul song playing in the background.

But, he's rich! And other people are poor! Look at me Mom.

Jeesh, what a joke, that chump (not Calhoun) was out for this and only this. Since when is it bad to make money? Since Barry O was elected?

Competition is hard in the wanna-be, whatever that asshole's name who did the McDonald's movie is...

Big deal. He should went Chaney, or worse, on him...lukewarm.

It was nice seeing Nantz doing a basketball game finally this year, it seems Clark Kellog and Nantz will make a good team, anything is better than Old Grumpy Billy Packer, but you guys do not fret when the Contract for the NCAA March Madness is up, ESPN will get every game.

Perhaps Coach could have handled it better -- I don't know. But that reporter needs his ass kicked. It is so painfully obvious he went into that press conference with no other purpose than to antagonize and embarrass Coach.
