Marvin Williams Clotheslines Rajon Rondo, Is Ejected

Sunday, May 04, 2008

Here's the thing I didn't understand about this play. Marvin Williams has about two feet on Rondo, why not just try and block the shot? Just a thought, but if you're going to foul you mind as well make it a good one....

Good lord that was just wrong. Williams did say he tried to catch him, but I don't think I saw that. Also, this is just an idea, but you might want to take your starters out now Doc. I know it's the start of the 3rd quarter, but if they're going to be fouling people like this I'd rather it be Tony Allen than Rajon Rondo.

Let's add Kevin Garnett blasting Zaza on a pick just for the heck of it....

Pretty sure you can't turn your shoulder into someone like that Mark Jackson. Some might take that as dirty.

Marvin had him fully wrapped up and only dropped him the last six inches. Rondo is weak.

I couldn't believe the "whoa is me" Joe Buck-like announcing during that incident.

Chill out. It's basketball. Sometimes you fall down and go boom.

Rondo isn't weak Marvin just can't take it that he and his boys were already being embarrassed with 2 quarters left to play in the game.

It was a frustration foul where he

A) wanted to deliver some pain
and
B) he didn't want to be a man and stick around to see his team get blasted.

The wildcat in me thinks it was just a cheap shot by a UNC player on a UK one.

Williams is like school on Sunday - NO CLASS.

@anon 4:50 - Yeah, sometimes you fall down. You should never be clotheslined and taken down.

The Marvin Williams foul was completely stupid. I don't think it was as bad as it looked. I did see Marvin attempting to hold onto Rondo as he went to the floor. But as far as the Kevin Garnett foul....come on that was WAY dirtier than Williams foul. He aimed his shoulder into what's his name and even put some force behind it. Essentially tackling him on the basketball court.

Justin get a clue....yes it was a hard pick but it was no where near a tackle.

Picks like that are a part of the game and Jackson was right Zaza should have been mad at his teammate for not shouting out pick.

Yet Williams too made a nice play...had it been the Pats vs the Falcons.

Boston tried to rub it in so I have no problem with Williams hit. The Celtics are an embarrasment. 7 games to get by a 37 win team. Pathetic.

The dumb thing is that it wouldn't even have been a foul on Garnett if he hadn't turned sideways. Whenever you use your shoulder it's going to get called.

Thank you AA my point exactly.

Okay so the Rondo play happened first correct? So blackhawk you don't think that that play, played any part in that so called "pick"? No retribution? I agree it's not exactly the most egregious thing I have ever seen but it wasn't exactly a love tap either. He meant to do damage with that pick. Either because he was pissed from the Rondo play or because he wanted to send a message.

But really the Celts were up BIG at that point....and it was game 7. There was no message that he was trying to send the Hawks. They were done. They already had their tee times set. It was kind of pointless IMO.

Best part was the crowd chanting "U-S-A!!!" as Zaza is taking this freethrows.

Classic.

What I am saying Justin is that in the playoffs you are going to have hard fouls.

Of course the hard pick was extracting a little vengeance for Rondo but had he leaned into it and Zaza still hit the ground hard it wouldn't have been a foul.

You can have hard contact in a pick and it not be a foul and yes it can be a way of getting back for what was clearing a dirty play on Williams part.

It is the difference in a veteran and a kid that is still wet behind the ears.

As for nothing to prove. Most of the NBA have questioned the Celts because of having to go to a game 7 with the Hawks. They had to send a message to the Cavs that they are going to be a force in their house.

Plus the Hawks were trashing the Celts in Atlanta and that is all well and good but you have to back up that talk each time out. Boston got the last word in and also told King James and company that it isn't going to be an easy game when they come to town.

Wow...bringing Hansbrough up when the post is about an NBA game. Who says only the media is obsessed with TH.

It was stupid by Williams, I think he had a block in mind but when he got there he decided to wrapped him up. Just not a smart play. I agree, the announcers acted like he shot him and then they kissed KG's rear end when it was clear he did that as retaliation.

I think, actually, that the Garnett pick was retribution for Zaza pushing KG in the back on that three point play a few minutes earlier.

Justin you can't call out Garnett for uselessly blasting Zaza in a game that was effectively over and then in the same breath say that Williams wasn't doing the exact same thing o Rondo. Both are dumb fouls but Rondo could have gotten seriously hurt on that play. A hard pick with a good amount of shoulder is nowhere near as bad as clotheslining someone who has left their feet while running, even if you do wrap them up.

And a big pet peeve,

Some of you have a tendency to argue that, if Team A (Ok, Celtics) is destroying Team B (Hawks), and leaving some starters in, playing hard, running up the score, that it is somehow disrespectful and justifies retribution with cheap shots / hard fouls.

People that think this way should be exterminated, if you ask me. If you carry that same logic to the real world, its like saying it is ok for one man, who has nothing - no money, no woman - to break into the house of a rich man and steal his money and rape his wife, because the guy that lives by the rules and succeeds is disrespectful. Maybe you would advocate that as well.

You all quickly forget that the Hawks stole a couple games with big 4th quarter comebacks. Can you blame the Celtics for wanting to completely bury them? The Celtics have every right (and some would say obligation) to play as hard as they want and score as much as they want for the 48 minutes alloted. If the Hawks dont like it, they should stop sucking.

OK, so my post (and analogy) is a bit extreme, but you people REALLY piss me off.

some of you hawk fans are scary pathetic.

and i raptors fan, so i know a lot about the celtics.

taht hard pick was not that big of a deal. zaza's dumb ass teammate should have told him to look up because a screen was coming. second of all, since when is kg shaq like in power?

zaza fell so hard it was laughable.

plus, i don't like rondo because he's burned by raptors beofre, but that is the dirtiest play i've seen all season. marvin looks like a nice kid, but that was so dirty.

i saw it live, and i kept saying "oh my god, oh my god" over and over again.

how can anyone think a hard pick is worse than a WWE body slam?

marvin is like 6 feet 8 inches! he can't block shots?

the cetlics underachieved on the road, and beat you guys up very easily at home. no need to clothesline ppl!

Im suprised KG connected, we all know how his "intensity works agsinst him in the 4th quarters" which for those who dont understand NBA analyst bullspit means he chokes.

Maybe if KG didnt spend some much time thinking about backup centers it wouldnt have taken them 7 games to beat these bums.
