Yes, Chris Berman Will Soon Have A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Thursday, June 18, 2009

I'm am not kidding in the least with the headline above. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce released the names of the latest individuals to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and THE Christopher Berman is on the list. Joining the ESPNer is a cavalcade of dignitaries, entertainment pros and....Mark Wahlberg....

A new group of entertainers in motion pictures, television, live theater, and recording have been selected to receive stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it was announced today by the Walk of Fame Committee of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. These individuals were chosen from among hundreds of nominations to the committee at a meeting held June 15, and ratified by the Chamber's Board of Directors.
The Walk of Fame recipients for the year 2010 are:

MOTION PICTURES:
James Cameron, Russell Crowe, John Cusack, Colin Firth, Gale Ann Hurd, Alan Menken, Randy Newman, Adam Sandler,
Emma Thompson and Mark Wahlberg

TELEVISION:
Chris Berman, Jon Cryer, Peter Graves, Jimmy Kimmel,
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bill Maher, and Sam Waterston

RECORDING:
Bryan Adams, The Funk Brothers, Alan Jackson, Chaka Khan, Van Morrison,
Marco Antonio Solis, Ringo Starr, ZZ Top and posthumously Roy Orbison

LIVE PERFORMANCE/THEATRE:
Andrea Bocelli and Cirque Du Soleil/Guy Laliberte
In all seriousness, Berman did do a ton for television back in the 80s and early 90s. And while his act has gotten a little stale over the years, he definitely deserves to have a spot on the Walk of Fame. Enjoy it, Boomer!

he definitely deserves to have a spot on the Walk of Fame.

Ahead of Jim Gray, and a few spots behind Erik Estrada.

Don't these people pay the Chamber to get a star on the walk?

yes, you pay yourself (or some group raises the money if it's a dead celebrity).

Is Hootie on there too, Chris Berman loves him, plus, is Huey Lewis on there too? Chris Berman loves him, and his music is wonderful.

Chris Berman is huge fans of both of those guys.

Is it just me, or is the Walk of Fame getting less relevant with each passing year?

Jon Cryer?!? and someone like Roy Orbison never received one when he was alive? Bogus.

No...he really doesn't deserve this. Considering that he has zero fans, this seems a bit odd.

OK, that's twice this week that a picture of this obnoxious, self-promoting fat ass loud mouth has been posted on this site. You are now officially on probation, AA.

Seriously, AA, you need to write a post on how ESPN's coverage of the US Open is unwatchable. Not because of Berman, but because they won't stop fellating New York City. It's sickening.

If this was based on past achievements, then yes he deserves it. Obviously, he seems to be infuriating everyone as the years go by.

Berman had a few slip ups this morning. Not clear why they don't give Tirico full time hosting duties given the quality difference. And the fellating of NYC/Long Island is absurd. Why are they back at Bethpage Black only 7 years after they were last here for the Open?

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is about as relevant as winning a Gold Glove.

Steve Czban brought up a good point this morning: if Berman gave a demo tape to ESPN today, would they hire him? The answer is No. He was great back in the day, but his schtick--for the most part--is played out. I like him on Prime Time, but ESPN would probably be best to start phasing him out.

I am a fan of Bill Maher. I'm glad he got a star.
