The U.S. Magically Advances In The Confederations Cup

Sunday, June 21, 2009

I have no idea how this happened. Well actually I do, but I still don't believe it. The United States was barely alive in the Confederations Cup, thanks to an upset of Italy by the Egyptians, and somehow all the stars aligned for the Americans to advance. What were those stars you ask? They needed a win over Egypt by three goals and a Brazil win over the Italians by three or more as well. Here are some highlights and the closing moments of each match....

What a crazy group that was. You could of had a situation where three teams in the round robin would have had six points. Instead, a team somehow advanced with just three, and the World Champions were eliminated in the process. Just a great win for the Americans, but there is some bad news. They now have to face Spain, who boasts a current world-record win streak of fifteen games in a row.

There was absolutely no drama in those clips mainly because of the broadcasters. JP Dellacamera (who I assume was the ESPN guy for the US game) is so God-awful at everything...I'm shocked they keep assigning him to stuff like this. Stick to women's lacrosse JP.

Either the moon was in the Seventh House and Jupiter aligned with Mars, or Italy laid down. I'm thinking the lstter...
Anyway, congrats to the USA.

Why are we jumping up and down about this? If this were a legitimate event where head-to-head was the first tie-breaker, the U.S. would be on the first prop plane out of Johannesburg.

@ Starting 11

It was a 3 way tie between USA, Italy and Egypt. Head to head would be a rather inefficient tiebreaking procedure. But, why let the truth get in the way of advertising your (incorrect) blog.

I'm thinking Spain blows the Americans out of the water. The Spaniards have been excellent of late and the Americans' luck will run out. That way, we can get ready for real football in about six weeks.
