Dick Stockton Would Like To Talk To You About Your Hair
Monday, July 13, 2009
Dick Stockton has been known to drop random thoughts during broadcasts, but this one might take the cake. I can't tell if he was just waxing-estatic, or if a graphic didn't show up, but listen as Stockton starts talking about "Just For Men" as A-Rod batted Saturday during the Yanks-Angels game. Via The Sporting Blog....
I know some people absolutely love Stockton, and he was certainly good at one point in his career, but it's time to let some of the younger guys have a try. If you think this level of craziness is bad, just wait until Football season.

That was not that bad. I think that he may have misunderstood when to say that or the people in the truck did not time the graphics correctly. Dick is still pretty good. He does have to tolerate Lesley Visser, don't forget. How they ever got married I will never know. I hope that FOX does not promote him any lower than the third team on NFL broadcasts.
@Nathan Brice-
True, this may not be that bad, but Dick's entire body of work these days IS. His time has past. True, he still has the pipes, but that's about it.
It's not Dick's fault that he's crazy. Fox keeps paying him though.
Dick Stockton has gots to go. he is the worst of the parachute squad. He flies in, he knows nothing about probably 95% of the MLB teams. The producers hand him a list of "themes" - i.e. so-and-so is hot, so-and-so is slumping. And it's comical (painful to the viewer) to hear Dick's creaky mind grasp for his "theme" over and over. Same story in the NFL --- old school is not always good. Say goodnight Dick.
What the hell is "waxing-estatic"?
Dear Dick Stockton and all the other motor mouths on TV:
TV is a visual medium. We can stand a few minutes of silence between pitches. Who knows? We may even be able to think about the game for ourselves without your help.
I'm with Steve Smith. We in radio cannot afford dead air, but in television, the pictures (especially in HD) often speak for themselves. It's like Ranch Wilder said on "Angels in the Outfield," less is more.
I think Dick Stockton is still one of the best announcers in sports!
This is an ad/saying that they do on all Fox stations (FOX, FSN). They associate it with the relievers, especially before games when they do the "holds" leaderboard.
I assume he was supposed to do this since they were talking about the eighth inning guy.
