How Many People Does It Take To Cover 60 Picks??? (Mock Draft Info Center)

Thursday, June 21, 2007

If you've been reading this site for awhile you know of my amazement with the number of people ESPN sends to each Draft/Finals/Championship. Well the NBA Draft next Thursday will be no different. The grand total this year.....14! That's right...fourteen different people to tell you that Durant has upside and that he's very long. Here are your players....

Mike Tirico will host with Jay Bilas, Mark Jackson, Stephen A. Smith (Cheese Doodlez!!!) as anaylsts. Additionally the Leader will have Fran Fraschilla, Dick Vitale, Stuart Scott, Lisa Salters, Ric Bucher, Andy Katz.

But wait, you said 14....that's only 10. Oh I forgot the field reporters...Rachel Nichols in Charlotte (why Charlotte?), Sal Paolantonio in Philadelphia (does he ever leave that city), and Jim Gray in LA (that rhymed).

So that's your fourt......oh crap.....I forgot Radio and ESPN News coverage....

ESPN Radio has....Marc Kestecher, Will Perdue, Steve Lavin, and Doug Gottlieb on the call with writer Ric Bucher serving as on-site reporter. ESPNEWS will add Kiki Vandeweghe as their analyst to go with a host or two that haven't been named.

So there's over 20....count em....20!!! Different people on-hand Thursday night. (All info from ESPN'S NBA Draft Press Release)

________________________________

And do you know what else is happening before and on Draft night??? Our 2nd Super Duper Blogger Mock Draft!!!!!!!! The NFL one was a rip roarin' good time, and I've decided to bring it back. This time with a different twist.

There are 26 Different teams drafting this Thursday night and first come first serve will be assigned to draft for that entire team's set of picks. If you get Portland you get 6 picks....if you get Washington you get 2.

The teams will be handed out in stages with the first teams awarded to those who say who they want in the comments today. If 26 people/sites step up and comment right away....we're closed for business. If 26 don't sign up in the comments I'll start emailing people. This is going to fill-up quick so I urge you to just leave a comment with the team you want (one that hasn't already been selected), and a link to your website.

Couple of conditions....1) You have to actually like the NBA and take this seriously. 2) You have to know something about some of the draftees and the teams picking them. 3) You have to actually have a blog/website/forum/etc. to participate. Here are the teams.....good luck on getting your favorite, and let's have some fun! (I'll update who's been taken throughout the day.)

I still say the Hawks will screw up their picks. Afterall, it is Billy Knight we're talking about...

Man you guys are quick...I appreciate the excitement.

And Bruce...yes he will. They will draft the best PG on the board when they should be drafting the best available player like they've done the past 7 years.

They can't win.

I'll do what Danny Ainge will not do, and make a good pick for the Celtics.

Even with 20 people covering the draft, ESPN will still not get around to interviewing or showing video of the last 52 players taken.

Bruce- Did that mean you wanted Atlanta?

Brian- What's your site?

Jun 21, 2007, 1:45:00 PM

I'd like Atlanta if Bruce doesn't. I can top Billy Knight any day.

Save that, I'll take the L.A. Clippers.

Mookie- Doesn't matter to me...as long as people take it seriously. That was the problem with the football one if you ask me.

Most people took it seriously, but there were a few picks that were just ridiculous.

Plus I don't really have the time to deal with 60 different people. I think we'll have a great group of folks....we do so far.

If it's alright, I'll grab the Suns. I'll admit that I have minimal vested interest except for the fact that I think they need only one player to put them over the top. Should be interesting to sort through late first round rubble.
