So About That Fake Death Vince McMahon???

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

The details of the Benoit Family deaths are pretty grim, but I'm going to give them to you in a nutshell from what I've heard so far. The rumor/report is that WWE Star Chris Benoit gets a call from his wife and he has to leave a scheduled PPV appearance for an emergency. He comes home to find his son dead by the hands of his wife. In a fit of rage he kills his wife, and then later himself.

UPDATE: TMZ is now reporting that..."Several Atlanta-based law enforcement sources have told TMZ Benoit may have strangled his wife on Saturday, then smothered his son in his bed a day later. Investigators refuse to officially comment, pending final confirmation by the coroner on the cause and time of the deaths. One source told TMZ that Benoit was texting friends during Sunday's WWE "Vengeance" Pay-Per-View program -- possibly watching the show with his son, who may have been alive at the time. According to sources, Benoit then hanged himself Monday in a weight room inside the family home."

Ugh....that website background that they took down makes me feel even more sick about this whole thing (see below).

Last Update/Rumor to add to the mix. This website is reporting that....."PWTorch.com has learned that one major media entity has received an email purporting to be from a friend of the Chris Benoit extended family saying that Benoit accidentally killed his wife in a domestic argument, then panicked and killed his son later so his son could be with his mother rather than grow up without a mom and knowing his father as a murderer.

Double Ugh.

Well I just want to share with you this screen shot to display how much sesnitivity the WWE seems to have in regards to this tragic event.....

See that background of splattered blood....you think you might want to change that perhaps?!?!?!?! Good lord....the stockholders and parties involved with WWE should be ashamed of themselves.

Here's a snippet of Vince's "performance" last night after the WWE told ticketholders to head home...

Wrestling Superstar Found Dead (TMZ)

UPDATE: There are varying reports out there, but the above one is the latest I heard on the radio on the way in.

UPDATE #2: Just like Jeff noted in the comments....the bloody page is gone. See for yourself....

UPDATE #3: The first description of the act has been updated to include the new findings from TMZ. The original post was from the details I heard on the radio on the way in. Either way you slice it....this is pretty nasty stuff.

I noticed the unfortunate ECW background too. That was tacky.

That said, given what they knew about the case heading into last night (which was: not much), I thought the WWE and McMahon handled things pretty well last night (given that the arena was set up for a mock funeral, bringing in the fans would have been the height of tastelessness).

A good article here on the details of the case points out that it wouldn't be shocking if the ECW show tonight went on as business as usual... and that would be a huge distancing of the company from Benoit when you consider that he was scheduled to win the ECW title back on Sunday night (even bigger considering that ECW was where he made his name in America). Given the details of the case, distance from Benoit is probably the right call, as sad as it is to see such an amazing wrestler go out on so low a note.

Also, I notice the montage tribute included footage of him kissing his kid and wife. Maybe not the best visual, particularly as you point out that the wwe.com website referred to the incident shortly thereafter as a "double murder-suicide."

Please edit the original post. There is no information to suggest that Nancy Benoit was anything other than an innocent victim. It's true that information is still coming out, but the preponderance of the evidence suggests that Chris Benoit killed his wife, his child, and himself.

Also Anon, there's no evidence to debate the contrary. Just because you don't like the thought of it doesn't mean it's not true.

Just giving all angles here.

And just because you heard it on the radio on the way in this morning doesn't mean it's true.

Could you at least update the original rumor/report to say which station was reporting it? With your subsequent updates, you provided sources which, at least in my case, helped me decide whether the info seemed valid or not.

Without a source, it could have come from any random person.

It was 106.7 WJFK in DC...it's about as credible as any other rumor you've heard. It's just a RUMOR...just like everything else...and exactly how I portrayed it.

I'm just giving all the information that's out there. Just calm down until the press conference my friend.

jesus, anon, shut the hell up.

For some reason, I don't think we'll ever know what really happened unless there was a note or something.

According to the Fayette County District Attorney, his wife was killed Friday while his son was killed either late Saturday or Sunday.

Believe what you want to believe.

Its really sad, even though i dont know all the facts, he did not have the right to kill those who wished to continue living i'm sorry if i offend some of you but he is a murderer and he disappointed me big-time as a wrestling hero he was to me,to my friends and the masses out there.so the bottomline is that there is no reason for vince to change the script just because of a foolish act...i'm sorry but i dont condone what he did.
