In Tampa, MNF Takes Precedence Over Charlie Brown And Boston Legal

Thursday, December 04, 2008

Local Tampa channel 28 will be making an interesting call by choosing to air the Monday Night Football game between the Bucs and Panthers. It's not interesting because of the game itself (although it should be a good one), but rather for the programs that the game will pre-empted. The channel was scheduled to play, and thus will be skipping the season finale of Boston Legal, and the holiday classic, "Charlie Brown Christmas." Via TampaBay.com....

Corporate cousin ESPN allows ABC affiliates to also air MNF games featuring hometown teams for area fans who don't get cable or satellite. Station officials made the decision to pick up the game months ago, before they could have known ABC's plans, said Rich Pegram, WFTS general manager.

Fortunately, the good folks at WFTS have come up with a solution. ABC will air the Charlie Brown Christmas on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 8 p.m. WFTS will move the two-hour Boston Legal finale to Sunday, Dec. 14 at 4 p.m. If you're online, you can see the Boston Legal finale on ABC.com the day after it airs nationally, on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
Good grief! Well at least they scheduled a makeup airing, right? Thank goodness and everyone can rest easy tonight.

I guess there really aren't any complaints to be made seeing as Charlie Brown is going to be re-aired and as I figured before I even got to it, you can Boston Legal right online at abc.com.

That Charlie Brown Christmas is indeed a re-airing. This happened earlier this week due to Houston and Jacksonville telecasting the game instead of "Shrek The Halls" and the Chuck Jones cartoon version of Dr. Seuss' "How The Grinch Stole Christmas."

Actually, that's the SERIES finale of Boston Legal, not just a season finale.

Noticing Charlie Brown being pre-empted in Tampa Bay for football reminds me of the time back in the early 1980's the CBS (now NBC) station in Rochester, NY pre-empted a Charlie Brown special, I can't remember which one, for a Rochester Americans hockey game in St. Catharines.

who hasn't seen the charlie brown christmas special by now?
plus, unless hannah montana or the jonas brothers are in it, why would today's kids watch it?
kudos to WFTS for making the correct decision to air the football game which will grab a huge ratings number in tampa.

And isn't this next item that I'm about to tell you ironic...

In Cleveland and Philadelphia on the 15th, there is a pre-emption of "I Want A Dog, Charlie Brown" for the Browns-Eagles game.

Yup, the same team with a fan section called "The Dawg Pound" and two teams that have played like dogs this season.

Write your own punchlines here.

BTW, add WHAS to the pre-emptions, but for a Louisville-Lamar basketball game.
