Meineke Car Care Bowl Open Thread

Saturday, December 27, 2008

It's the last game for that magical quarterback known as Pat White.

Game: Meineke Car Care Bowl
Teams: West Virginia Mountaineers (8-4) vs. North Carolina Tar Heels (8-4)
Location: Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC
Start Time: 1 PM EST
Network and Announcers: Sean McDonough and Chris Spielman, ESPN
Favorite: WVU (-1.5)
S2N's Pick: UNC, because Bill Stewart will find a way to have a brain fart at the worst possible time for the 'Eers.

18 Comments:

Let's hope UNC wins since I really don't like west virginia. The great city of Charlotte doesn't need inbred West Virginians running amuck.

McDonough: "Stewart said that NASCAR was going 160 mph, which was how fast Rob Stone was driving us from the airport."

I'm following the game via ESPN gametracker... Is there any defense in this game? Good lord, both teams are going up and down the field with ease.

No defense at all, but to be fair the offenses are executing brilliantly, the over/under should be covered by halftime.

Great catches, trick plays...who knew a John Shoop offense could be this dynamic?

WVU fans are wondering why Jeff Mullen and Bill Stewart kept this shit hidden all season in the name of "better balance."

I spoke too soon. That 4th down call was vintage Shoop.

What is the over/under for this game anyways? There might be more scoring in this game than a Bobs' game.

Not related to the game, but can Wendy be more annoying with the pregame and halftime coverages? Especially with that "And I think that's what we call..." phrase.

Can anyone explain to me the current series of Emerald Nuts commercials? I can't wait to see them nonstop during their bowl game tonight!

I mean, the ad with characters jumping out of a mirror to build a treehouse around a sleeping man's head... WTF? A stack of money with eyes on it is sane in comparison! Heck, the old Emerald Nuts ads were at least cleverly stupid; the new ones appear to only make sense if you are on LSD.

But anyway, this is one heck of a football game. As a Bears fan, I'm not used to seeing a John Shoop offense scoring a lot of points.

Man, Tommy Bowden's a real natural as a studio analyst.

McDonough: "In our business, when you suck up, you get better assignments."

Taking a shot at someone, Sean?

That 4th and 1 was one of the dumber play calls by WVU this season.

And given Bill Stewart and Jeff Mullen's tendencies, that's saying something.

Yeah but somehow these coaches always get rewarded by their defense.

WVU Coach Bill Stewart: "My players may not be the best players, I know that, but they're the best team. They're gonna be great husbands, they're gonna be great daddies, they're gonna be great men of society and they're all gonna be good men of faith."

Rob Stone: "Coach we appreciate your time, congratulations"

Stewie: "Rob Stone, thanks, and thanks for all you do. ESPN, man, made West Virginia, God Bless ESPN, I Love It, Any night of the week, you need us, you let us know"

......awkward one armed hug forced on a visibly trying to escape Rob Stone.
Stone: "We'll talk to programming about that...."

Over/Under on awkward things that shouldn't be said on a national television post game interview: 3
