NFL Open Thread - Week 14 Early Games

Sunday, December 07, 2008

Rather than another picture of Eli Manning or some other player involved in the marquee game of the morning (Eagles-Giants), I decided we'd go with Manning the Younger's wife, Abby.

Here's this week's announcing schedule and maps, and Fox has the doubleheader today. I won't be switching from them until Football Night in America.

Fox:

Philadelphia @ NY Giants - Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, Tony Siragusa
Atlanta @ New Orleans - Dick Stockton, Brian Baldinger, Brian Billick
Minnesota @ Detroit - Sam Rosen, Tim Ryan

CBS:

Jacksonville @ Chicago - Greg Gumbel, Dan Dierdorf
Houston @ Green Bay - Gus Johnson, Steve Tasker
Cincinnati @ Indianapolis - Ian Eagle, Solomon Wilcots
Cleveland @ Tennessee - Don Criqui, Dan Fouts

Was there a glitch at the Fox studios for the pre-game?

Thanks to the Seahawks I've been shut out of the Cowboys/Steelers.

Oh yeah, heckuva finish in the soccer game between Everton and Aston Villa.

Joleon Lescott scores for Everton to tie it at 2-2 with seconds to go.

Ashley Young comes right back, turns Lescott around and scores the winning goal with time up.

I love The Beautiful Game.

It's a good thing that Siragusa is so, um, big. It's in the mid-30's with the wind blowing at 25-35 mph. He does have a fur coat though that resembles Brent Musberger's last night.

"And now after winning the toss, Lovie Smith's decision to defer looks great."
Really, Greg Gumbel? That's what you're thinking about? Worst. TD. Reaction. Ever.

@ James, why? I can just go to Canada and pick up 1 or 2 more games!

Dan Marino's dad died last night. He was with his family. CBS made mention of it a couple of times at the beginning of the show.

Bazooka Jones, I know, I know, but it's Greg Gumbel here, so you can't expect much from him.

(What the deal is in the Bears game is that they won the toss, deferred it, and on the third play, Garrard threw a Kevin Craft-esque pick to Manning that brought the ball to the 5 yard line and it took only 2 plays for Chi-town to score; it was more to Garrard's stupidity than anything else that let the Bears score so easily; given the way that Chicago is shredding the defense, it looks to be a long day for the Jaguars)

After seeing the new "Drinkability" ads, I'd rather watch all of the "Five Dollar Foooottt Loonnnngggsss" ads or yes, dare I say, "SAVED BY ZZEEERRROOOOO!"

Greg Gumbel is the same person that said the ball rolled into the end zone on a punt for a TOUCHDOWN.

He's still decent for me though.

Yeah, that's Gumbel for you.

I'm glad I'm watching the Bears game instead of the Giants one. From seeing a few minutes of it, it's a comedy of errors. I mean, Andy Reid already running out of timeouts when the 2nd quarter is only a minute old? I'm sure JFein's blog on the game will be very colorful.

By the way, on another channel where I live is an infomercial, and it's for some FlavorWave cooking device, and a co-host for it is... Mr T! My mind was blown when I saw that. I mean, T wearing normal clothes and an apron!

Back to football, I'll be surprised if Chicago doesn't win the game. Jacksonville looking bad so far, and Garrard not being able to take advantage of the Bears's horrid pass defense... I shouldn't worry too much about how this will turn out.

Abby's way prettier than Eli anyway.

Am watching the Giants-Eagles game as I type. I am not a big fan of the NFL on Fox, but I'm not one of those raving anti-Tony Siragusa people. Though thank goodness he's covered up = no more close ups of his man breasts and hard nipples. Ick. Get that man a bro.

Is it possible for Kenny, Moose, and Goose to talk about something other than the wind? Good lord, I feel like I'm listening to the local New York weather instead of a football game

Don Criqui showing his age..."Collinsworth picked off" quickly followed by "um, Kerry Collins".

Collinsworth played QB at Florida when Criqui was in his 40s.

This Browns-Titans game is proving to be the pile of deuce CBS thought it would be when they gave it to Criqui-Fouts.

The old CBS would have handed this to Dan Jiggetts and said "have some fun with it." They did not give that message to Criqui and Fouts.

BTW wake up RickJamesBibleOwner, the Lions lead in the 4th quarter!
