NFL Open Thread - Week 14 Late Games

Sunday, December 07, 2008

I wonder if Ben got his choice of whom to date as part of the conditions for appearing at this charity fashion show. To the one sentence descriptions of the early action!

  • Philly is about to close out a win at Giants Stadium thanks to a 100+ yard/2 TD day from Brian Westbrook and good protection for Donovan McNabb at all times. The Iggles pass rush has looked like the Giants pass rush today. 20-7, Eagles....it's now 20-14, Eagles, after Eli throws a TD pass to a receiver I've never heard of after several Philly penalties only prove that the prevent defense is worthless crap. Onside kick approaching, for sure....and Philly gets the win.
  • High scoring fun in N'Awlins, as the Saints just scored another touchdown to make it 29-25 over the Falcons. Matt Ryan has one TD throwing, and on the previous drive, rushed in for a score and hit the 2-point conversion. The Ice is leading another drive with 4:30 left to go....and the Saints have the ball back now at the 2-minute warning.
  • Cincy still sucks. Colts continue their march to a Wild Card spot and a possible 9-game winning streak by owning the Bungles 35-3.
  • The Vikings have lost Jared Allen on a cheap shot chop block by Gosder Cherilous and Gus Frerotte to another injury. Tarvaris Jackson threw a TD pass to Visanthe Shiancoe and Chester Taylor has also hit paydirt. But it is 17-16, Minny over Detroit right now, as Daunte Culpepper has not looked horrible, throwing a TD pass to Calvin Johnson. Vikes have the ball with under two minutes to go...and it's now 20-16 with a Longwell FG.
  • The Texans and Packers are matching each other stride for stride right now. It's 21 all and Aaron Rodgers is trying to push for the go-ahead score at home with 4:30 to go. He and Matt Schaub have both thrown 2 TDs apiece.
  • Chicago is making Jacksonville look pathetic. Kyle Orton has thrown for two TDs, add 3 Robbie Gould field goals, and the Bears are up 23-10.
  • Tennessee is coasting to an easy win over the Ken Dorsey-led Browns, 28-9. Two TD passes for Kerry Collins, 136 rush yards and a score for Chris Johnson, and 80 yards and a score for Body By LenDale.
Here are your late games. We here at Awful Announcing would like to extend our deepest sympathies to those of you stuck with St. Louis @ Arizona as the only game on your television set.

Fox:

Dallas @ Pittsburgh - Joe Buck, Troy Aikman
St. Louis @ Arizona - Matt Vasgersian, J.C. Pearson

CBS:

NY Jets @ San Francisco - Jim Nantz, Phil Simms
New England @ Seattle - Dick Enberg, Randy Cross
Miami vs. Buffalo (in Toronto) - Kevin Harlan, Rich Gannon
Kansas City @ Denver - Bill Macatee, Steve Beuerlein

He was waiting all game for that one.

Aw, Joe and Troy have matching jackets and scarves. How cute!....

Did anyone else see some player's penis in the Vikings locker room after the game? They showed it on Fox's post game show.

Mike Holmgren is scaring me....

We're running the ball and stuff and we're matriculating it down the field.

Hm. Boy, am I going to regret not starting Phil Rivers instead of Romo.

Not even two minutes in and Polamalu picks him off.

Is it just me or is today more proof that Andy Reid needs to be fired. They beat the best team in the league by, get this, repeatedly running the ball with their best player behind their behemoth offensive line. Reid the Coach, much like Reid the Father, won't learn from this and try to prove his offensive genius by throwing 49 times in next week's Monday Night loss to the Browns.

Mark my words.

I saw that too. You really couldn't see much because it was really quick shot from the side, but I can't believe FOX missed that.

This Seahawks offense is running like clockwork with Seneca Wallace.

Where was this team all year?

TJX said...
Dec 7, 2008, 4:42:00 PM

@ S2N: Why would you take any QB going against the Steeleres defense? Forget the fact that Rivers has been efficient all year despite the fact the Chargers' record does not show it.

Justin F. said...
Dec 7, 2008, 4:43:00 PM

@ SSR: Generally inconsistently like that is the coach's fault. FIRE MIKE HOLMGREN! Yes, I know he's being replace by Mora the Younger, but I just wanted to say it.

Just who are the New York Jets? The beat the Titans and the Patriots but they lose to the Broncos and now they're losing to the hapless Niners.

The Jets are the epitome of a team that plays at their opponents' level.

Anyone catch the (undoubtetly drunk) guy in the Pittsburgh game without a shirt on pouring a huge gatorade carton's worth of ice on himself? Some hospital in Pittsburgh better have an open room for him tonight.

For those not watching (or not getting) that game, it's 19 degrees with a wind chill in the single digits.

No person alive deserves to be tortured by having Rams/Cards has the only available game to watch. That's just wrong.

Justin F. said...
Dec 7, 2008, 6:37:00 PM

I saw that, JFein. Fox should have an update on that guy. Pittsburg isn't able to do anything on offense.

FIRE MIKE TOMLIN! Seriously? Going for it on 4th down at the Dallas 2 down by 10? I know it's tempting, but you have to keep yourselves in it by making it a one touchdown game.

On another note, Touchdown Patriots! My heart bleeds for you, SSR.

Why did CBS send their A team to San Fran for the Niners-Jets games (aside from Brett Farve)? I'm sure they had a better matchup than that to use Nantz and Simms.

@ walnuts: It was bouncing and rolling around on the ground when he scooped it up. It obviously worked in their favor, but common logic normally says don't touch that ball.

Steelers tie it at 13. And now comes the magic of the prevent defense so Tony Schmo can lead a "miracle finish".

I don't think they'll do the prevent when it's a tie game.

walnuts -- sending nantz and simms to san fran game has NOTHING to do with the match-up. DUH
it's ALL about the game being seen in the #1 media market.
the game is ALWAYS televised back to the visiting team's market and since New York has the most number of people, you send your best team.
DUH learn how television works.
