NFL Open Thread - Week 15 Early Games
Sunday, December 14, 2008
The "marquee" AFC match-up, such as it is, for the early games this week appears to be the lackluster Bills making the trip to the Meadowlands to face the Jersey Bretts. For those of you lucky enough to get the Bucs vs. Falcons, enjoy the game of the day (that is, until the Sunday night showdown.)
Here's the link to the schedule and the maps. I'm saddled with the double Pu Pu Platter to start, with Chargers-Chiefs and Niners-Dolphins, followed by the Commitment to Excrement on display when New England visits Oakland in the later slate. Stupid California.
Well, maybe that's not fair to the Niners or the Dolphins. Singletary has SF playing well and Miami looks good enough to take the division. Again, we here at Awful Announcing would like to extend our deepest sympathies to those who have the Lions visiting the Colts. Games with the potential to be that bloody should come with disclaimers.

Plus all NFL Network games are on TSN so in reality you can watch 6-8 games a week. Sunday Ticket my a**.
HD and surround sound are wonderful things.
I find these commercials from Burger King horribly offensive.
Larry Johnson just took it from Tyler Thigpen and hurled it to Tony Gonzalez for what should be a touchdown, but was called incomplete.
I think Herm might win the challenge here.
Norv Face in HD is SPECTACULAR.
God, Solomon Wilcotts is an idiot. 2 feet in the end zone = TD. Ground can't cause a fumble.
@S2N, this Dolphin-49er game isn't that bad so far.
For those of you lucky enough to get the Bucs vs. Falcons, enjoy the game of the day (that is, until the Sunday night showdown.)
I hope you mean Steelers/Ravens by Sunday night showdown.
"Brett Favre can throw to wide recievers."
-Dan Dierdorf playing the role of Captain Obvious.
Sam Rosen, Tim Ryan, and Chris Myers are the perfect team. They never say anything meaningful.
And the sound of jaws dropping was that of both me and JFein after finding out they switched Fox 29 from Bungles-redskins to Bucs-Falcons midweek without wARNING.
Anon @ 1:29 - it's very good QB play. Neither Hill nor Pennington throw many incomplete passes.
Anon @ 1:30 - no, because I don't get it on TV, and 4pm isn't Sunday night.
Steelers-Ravens is the king of the afternoon slate, and frankly, I'd rather have that on Sunday night than Cowboys-Giants again.
Ray Ratto of the SF Chronicle has a great column today talking about Roger Goodell visting the Raiders today.

Greg Gumbel just confused Matt Schaub with Matt Ryan during a Texans-Titans highlight.
"You know whose going to be good? That Matt Ryan."
I am glad to see the Dolphins sold out their game.
And I am not pleased with the Harry High School all black the Falcons are wearing. That is sooooo Ron Mexico.
Another KC touchdown.
How long until Norv gets fired?
God Barry Sims sucks. Now I see why even the Raiders didn't want him around anymore.
Geico's ad guys had to have eaten a handful of four-way acid tabs a piece before coming up with the cash with eyes concept.
How long till Jim Zorn is fired? AA must be sick to see the Redskins losing to the Bengals.
Tony Boseli just invented a new word: "That was unexcusable. Unexcusable"
Hey S2N, that Geico ad with the cash with eyes is creepy. Seems to me they've been snorting lines of a different sort if you know what I mean.
"The Atlanta Falcons, who were an expansion team at one time in the NFL."
-Dick Stockton now in the role of Captain Obvious, Historic Department.
Yah, the Falcons were an expansion team about 30 years ago.
It's official, Solomon Wilcotts and Ian Eagle have no fucking clue what the Pistol offense is.
Corbin - it's amazing. they call it the spread but they can't figure out that the spread has different formations and some of them have names.
Ian occasionally calls college football, too. You'd think someone would have clued him in.
21-3, KC.
(points, laughs at Chargers.)
On a more serious note, the whole Pistol offense seems to work a little bit. I'm wondering how fast coordinators are going to figure out that with all the QBs coming out of spread systems in college, it might be useful to take advantage of this.
Chan Gailey is looking somewhat smart right now.
The 49ers have owned time of possission but are still down 14-9. The Dolphins red zone defense is awsome.
For all the talk about trading Tony Gonzales at the T.D., why didn't the Chiefs trade Larry Johnson?
As I type this, the Chiefs just ran the Hook and Ladder....this coupled with 2 Option plays....
Captain Obivous has been passed on to Tim Ryan. "They need to drive down the field."
Detroit and Indy are tied.
Th. Brenneman: The Colts are 0-13. Can they pull off a shocker?
(earlier)
B. Billick: Detroit needs to take recontrol of this game.
One of them also referred to the Colts as Tampa earlier.
I don't get all the hate for Dierdorf; he acts like he enjoys his job (unlike Buck), and he's calling out Favre for missing wide open receivers (unlike every other announcer).
A fan just ran out on the field in Miami.
Sam Rosen had the quote of the day after that. "He will spend some time in the pokey tonight."
A guy fumbles two kick-offs in a game, in a closed roof stadium...and he's still returning punts? WTF, Tony? (And Najeh Davenport for kickoffs? Really?)
Dolphins held on for the win. Time for me to start drinking.
Falcons-Suckaneers in OT, Bills about to lose.
Greg Gumbel had this earlier"There's a mentality that you dont want to lose to the Lions."
Well I'll be out of commission for most of the morning/afternoon.....
But I'm having fun. Here in Seattle it's 24 degrees and the forecast is for another day of snow showers.
Now, the news stations should stop devoting 10 out of 30 minutes of airtime talking about the whopping 2 inches of snow most areas have whilst giving 3 minutes to a story about a man being murdered by his wife.
It is embarrassing to see this city talk about the snow as if it is like death. Since when is 24 degrees "ARCTIC CONDITIONS"??
