It's Hard Out Here For A Ref

Monday, December 15, 2008

If you happened to watch the Bills epic collapse against the Jets, then you probably saw the Shaun Ellis fumble recovery to give the Jets the lead. What you may not have seen is the referee on that play getting absolutely destroyed during Ellis' romp to the endzone. The Sports Hernia provides the photographic evidence, but here's video of said destruction....

Yep, that's a broken nose. But at least he didn't get completely blindsided for no reason like this ref during a High School game in Texas last week.

Ed Hochuli's nose would've broken the field (The Sports Hernia)

Somewhere Orlando Brown is laughing his ass off.

Darn, Harry Smalley beat me to the Orlando Brown joke.

Yesterday was just an all-round tough day for officials and officiating crews alike.

Not saying he deserved it, but Tripplett always comes off as kind of a pompous ass.

I guess that ref in the LSU/South Carolina game wasn't so crazy after all.

I have a question for the class; why do some refereeing crews wear the black pants?

It's like defensive coordinators tell their players, after a turnover occurs, everyone's fair game.

that "part of the field" stuff cuts both ways. Ouch. Maybe if he had used corn instead of friggin BB's, like the manual said, universal karma would have been more in balance. Of course, methinks some balancing of the books still needs to occur. This may only be an interst payment ;-)

He didn't break his nose, just bloodied.

And I believe the black pants are the "insulated/cold weather" pants opposed to the always sexy white pants.
