Steelers Win AFC North, But Not Without Some Controversy
Sunday, December 14, 2008
Well the refs are at it again. With the Steelers down three, and under a minute to play, Ben Roethlisberger made a great move to avoid tacklers and hit Santonio Holmes at the goal line. The call on the field was that, while his body was in, the ball never crossed the plane. Well it was obviously reviewed, and after a lengthy viewing, the ref said that it was indeed a touchdown.
The problem though, is the fact that there was no way that visual evidence was strong enough to overturn the call. At least in my opinion. Take a look for yourself....
And with that call, the Steelers win the AFC North and have all but secured the 2nd seed in the playoffs and have a shot at the top seed with a win over Tennessee next weekend.

If I'm hearing that right they called it a TD because he had his feet in the endzone with possession. They never said anything about the football.
not true
the reason it was a touchdown is because he had possession AND the ball crossed the plain
the call was correct
Only the first replay is clear about the TD. Good call.
I personally thought it could have gone either way, and was leaning towards the fact that Holmes had posession with the ball over the goal line.
BUT if that's the case, the ref needs to specify that. He didn't come close to giving an explanation that would justify a touchdown call or overturning the call on the field, making it seem like he doesn't know the rules.
That's why, as a Ravens fan, I was ready to throw a shoe through my TV.
Awesome..
