LSU Is Apparently Using Their Extra Five-Star Recruits At Referee

Monday, October 20, 2008

I was out of the loop this past weekend, and I apologize if you've already seen this, but this referee from the LSU-USC game needed a spot here. Watch closely as this unknown official first appears to be avoiding USC QB, Steven Garcia, but then just decides to run him over for some reason....

I honestly wish that players on my teams could tackle that well. I'm sure there's a good explanation for this, but at the present time, I have no idea what that could be. Just plain weird.

(Thanks to LO for the vid)

He was clearly just giving him the business.

Are we sure he didn't also sing the national anthem?

With the first pick in the NFL draft, (insert worst team in football at the end of this year here) selects: That ref.

How is this not getting more attention? That was blatant.

My explanation would be that he is trying to cut inside of the defender that tackles him after the ref collision. I bet he wasn't even seeing the ref, rather was focused in on the defender.

As an official (which I am), and especially the umpire position, you are taught to get you hands in front of your body and elbows out to brace for contact if you see it coming. That is to protect you since you have no pads. I think that is what this official as trying to do, and the QB's cut made it look like he threw his shoulder into him. Of course have a 200-lb armored man running at you when you have no protection will make you do anything you can to avoid injury.

It seriously looked like he was trying to hit him.
