World Series Game 3 Open Thread

Saturday, October 25, 2008

That is, if they ever take the tarp off. Weather is a concern for Game Three tonight, hopefully, they're able to play through.

If such is the case, please leave your comments and hate for Joe Buck and Tim McCarver here. There is the little matter of Alabama vs. Tennessee and Penn State vs. OSU to deal with for me.

84 Comments:

I posted this in the pammies but seeing as this is now up, I'm putting it here.

"I'm not smart enough to figure out what all the green stuff means" - Joe Buck at the beginning of the game on reading a radar map.

Doesn't Joe Buck at least know that the wind in the U.S. generally blows west to east, thus the rain should be moving out? You'd think he was smart enough to mention that.

Raining a bit harder; Another new episode of 'Til Death

Side note: Is 'Til Death actually better than the Steve Harvey show? Stick with old episodes of Cops, Fox. I'd rather watch some meth head get tasered.

Oct 25, 2008, 8:40:00 PM

Joe Buck just said that it's getting harder and harder to believe that the storm is going to move out by the top of the hour. Now I'm not a meteorologist, but I can read a radar map and it looks like the rain can be out by the top of the hour.

ESPN Radio is running a replay of Game 4 from the D'Backs-Yankees World Series.

Oct 25, 2008, 9:26:00 PM

...and now the Game is supposed to start at 10pm. The Fox pregame is on.

Oct 25, 2008, 9:27:00 PM

Well baseball is finally starting, this is obviously a great decision by Major League Baseball to start Game Three of the World Series at 10 pm est.

The ratings are going to be horrible for this game.

John Saunders has told us, twice now, that we should not change the channel since the World Series is in a rain delay. You know John, I think anyone interested in watching the WS already knows that.

Gotta love the Raffi-esque song they played to intro the Rays.

Did the Rays actually choose that song as their introduction? Hilarious.

Justin F. said...

does anyone know what the hell this music is that they are playing during the rays lineup?

Someone should tell ESPN Radio that the introductions are going on and get the Hell out of the canned 2001 World Series retrospective.

taylor swift!!! a much better choice than the backstreet boys or los lonely boys.

Anonymous said...
Oct 25, 2008, 9:50:00 PM

Taylor Swift is from Pennsylvania? I never knew that. I think it's safe to say that she was the best national anthem singer by a mile thus far in the World Series. Not that she had much competition in the Backstreet Boys and Los Lonely Boys, but still.

Justin F. said...
Oct 25, 2008, 9:52:00 PM

I still have that Rays song stuck in my head!

"Fish, fish, fishy, fishy, fish, fish, fish" AAAHHH!!!!!!

I think this is the third time this evening that Joe Buck has welcomed us to the broadcast booth.

Justin F. said...

Now FOX can use the late start time as an excuse for the poor ratings - which they would have received even with an 8p start.

Tim McGraw with the Phils limeup. Funny how they didn't beg him or his wife to sing the anthem.

Let's go Phils!

Tim McGraw only had one song that I remember, and I heard it for the first time today in years. And that was before he made his apparence in the WS. Kind of ironic.

Oddball question: I'm watching this game in Japan on public television, yet I'm seeing Japanese ads on the screen behind home plate. Are those on FOX as well? They can't be, right?

@ feitclub: No, in the bottom of that 1st inning, there was a Taco Bell ad in English.

"Crawford with his spped as a relatively easy double" - Tim McCarver not realizing that Crawford got in there just in time and was nearly tagged out.

Justin F. said...
Oct 25, 2008, 10:34:00 PM

The ballpark places a green screen placard back there so different broadcasters can project different ads on them.

JFreak said...
Oct 25, 2008, 10:34:00 PM

@JFreak I realize that, and I was confused because the game is being broadcast here on NHK, a public broadcaster that collects a license fee from all TV owners. They are normally commercial-free as a result, so seeing ads doesn't make sense to me - unless MLB sells that space directly to advertisers and then adds the images to the feed going to other countries.

More on-air cursing presented to us by Fox. They aired the audio of the Rays' reaction to Eva's shot and you could clearly air someone say "Damnit!"

Meanwhile Utley drilled one in the seats into the wind. Wow! I wonder how many Rays fans are currently calling the league to see if the Phillies somehow fixed the wind so that it only helps them.

Joe Buck is slouched again!!! Absolutely unprofessional. At least Tim McCarver is trying to appear professional when on camera. Joe Buck looks like he belongs at the beach.
