The Rays Win....Wait A Tic....Your Late Night ALCS Game 5 Open Thread

Thursday, October 16, 2008

Wow. What a comeback. I actually texted my friend at the game before the Papi homer and said they were coming back. It's 7-7 in the Top of the Ninth, and while there are videos and such to come (I think I actually jinxed the whole thing by making a whole Rays post beforehand), be sure to join in with your comments post haste.

Top Of The Ninth:

- Bartlett singles to left center.
- Iwamura flies to left (1 out)
- Upton Walks (Bartlett to second)
- Pena ground into double play ball (4-6-3)

Pedroia to lead off the ninth....are you kidding me???

Bottom Of The Ninth:

- Pedroia grounds out to third
(Ortiz tries to bunt down the third baseline)
- Ortiz strikes out

So, since I bought my boss lunch for National Bosses Day today, that means I can be really late to work tomorrow morning, right? (Via Rob in WI)

Yes....yes it does.

3-2 count to Youk....

OH NO! Longoria with a ridiculous pick and a god awful throw. Error 5, and Youk is on second.

Maddon walks Bay and JD Drew will bring up the lefty, lefty matchup...which makes zero sense. Who's ready for a walkoff? Howell almost takes off Drew's head and the Boston fans start the "HOW-ELL, HOW-ELL" chant. Howell wants no part of Drew (who's 4-7 lifetime) and he's going to walk him.....scratch that....strike one.

GAME! JD DREW ENDS IT!!!!! You have to be shitting me?!?!?!?!?!

MLB.com shows the break on pitches. Howell's sliders are breaking 10 - 12 inches.

I hear you Rob....it's about time Baseball made it interesting.

Caray and Martinez made Bill Simmons sound disinterested tonight in their open and unabashed rooting for Boston, it made me want to puke.

Go Rays, keep the RedSox from turning into the Yankees.

Wow.....what a game. I have a feeling the Red Sox are going to complete the comeback (again).

Just like to point out that Maddon lost the game by not putting in defensive replacement after the 7th inning.

Pedroia's rbi, the throw home on Kotsay, and the Drew's GW hit are all caught by Fernando Perez or Rocco Baldelli.

As a Mets fan, Chavez is always in after the 7th for Defense.

Maddon doesn't play by anybody's rules... not even his own.

Funny that people thinking that Caray etc. were rooting for the Sox... when its seemed like Caray has wanted the Sox to lose since the Angels series. If anything they wanted the Red Sox to win tonight so they could cover (and potentially earn more money) 2 ALCS games. I'm an "up-and-coming" sportscaster, so I would love to be able to call that type of comeback, no matter where my allegiances lay.

I also hope to one day be called out on this blog.

Interesting point you bring up anon@12:43. All year long, Maddon had brought Gross in for Hinske as a...wait for it...defensive replacement. However, it was during much of the year when Rocco was on the shelf and Fernando Perez was in Durham. So, all that said, I would've thought twice about leaving Gabe "It's not about winning or losing. It's about staying in the word of God" Gross in.

Oh, the reason for the quote?
