ESPN's 2008-2009 College Football Bowl Schedule

Thursday, July 24, 2008

I got extremely excited when ESPN sent a press release with the subject line, "2008 College Football Schedule For ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN360.com, ESPN Classic, ESPN Mobile TV and ESPN Radio," but to my dismay, the thing has about a billion holes. If anyone wants it feel free to email me, and I'll gladly pass it along, but it's ridiculously incomplete and not worth posting. With that said, something we can take a look at is ESPN/ABC's Bowl Schedule for 2008-2009.

Here's the list....

Prepare your calendars now! It's tough to top CBS' March Madness, but this is about as close as it gets. If you add in ESPN Radio, they give you coverage of 29 different Bowl during the postseason. Can't beat that.

The GMAC Bowl is right before the national title game again? Great. Don't embaress me again, Bowling Green Falcons.

Isn't the ABC/ESPN college football schedule incomplete because they're able to select games during the season depending on who is good and who is not? Most college football schedules for the major teams don't come with times for this very reason. Same with CBS and the SEC--they select the game they want a couple weeks before it airs, then everyone else falls into line and schedules their game (ESPN, Raycom, etc.) I don't think you're going to get a full schedule before the season starts.

Yeah, I was going to say... Can we end the Mid-American Conference East smack talk? This is not the proper forum. I don't know that there is a proper forum.

Of course it's incomplete. Other than selected games and any mid-week games and the first 3 weeks of the season, college football picks game on a 12 day (sometimes 6) window. Mattsarz, an amazing college football tv site (along with lsufootball) updates games with tv times as they are added.

Once there are 70 bowls and only 139 Division 1 teams...how will ESPN fill that final slot?
