Golic Goes Missing From M&M This Morning (Updated)
Thursday, July 17, 2008
Really odd happenings going on over the past few days. First it was Joe Morgan disappearing (below) and now Mike Golic is the topic of discussion. A few people emailed me this morning about Golic leaving the set of Mike and Mike this morning but I didn't really pay any mind. A few more people sent in questions this afternoon so I decided to check it out.
Normally it wouldn't be a big deal if a host had to leave, but Golic left suddenly and Greenie refused to talk about why the rest of the show. At first he had just left "for a moment" but then a little while later that turned into "the rest of the morning...
The whole thing was just really weird and included awkward camera angles of just Greenie (see above) the rest of the show. He also seemed very reserved and awkward after Golic left but that's kind of par for the course. Hopefully everything is okay and nothing serious happened this morning. If anyone knows anything let me know.
Update: ESPN just emailed me with the answer and unfortunately his absence was due to his Father-In-Law passing away. All the best to the Golic household.

Are the broadcasting from the Newseum?
Very awkward scene this morning. Greeny seemed to be bored/disinterested with the interviews. Hope an update comes along
Golic forgot his ESPN laptop, Greeny got pissy about and the claws CAME OUT!
AAA OOGA!
Turned it on this morning, apparently after Golic had left, and thought Greeny sounded really stiff and strange.
He must have realized that he's sending both of his sons to play for Charlie Weis.
Couldn't be too serious because Mike and Mike were the announcers for teh T-ball games at the White House today.
That was yesterday Rod which is why they were in DC.
Maybe Golic was just sick, and couldn't finish the show. Or maybe he finally realized what a preening asshat Greenberg is and couldn't take it anymore.
Anyone else notice that Greeny uses the word fascinated about 4 times a segment? Drives me nuts. Are you really fascinated by everything? Try intrigued or something. Or try not being a douche.
@ Jay: Jay Crawford of First Take does the exact same thing. Every topic is just a fascinating development.
Greenberg has gone solo a few times previously, and because he did a far better job then than he did this morning--which was one of the most painfully unlistenable radio shows I've ever heard--I guessed that something serious had gone down with Golic.
(I'd like to hear Golic go solo sometime. I'm guessing he'd be fine.)
On another matter, thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster that the All-Star break is over. If I have to hear one more ESPN Radio host talking about the Home Run Derby, the V Foundation Auction, or the ESPYs, I'll be switching over to Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity--and I'm a liberal.
Wow, ESPN himself emailed AA to give him the update about Golic.
I thought it might be because of POT ROAST or something.
Yes, it did look weird and awkward when Golic suddenly disappeared after the second long segment of the first hour. But one day later, when Trey Wingo and Tim Kurkjian substituted for both Mikes, Wingo said during the first segment that Mike Golic's father-in-law suddenly passed away during the show, that explains Golic's sudden absence.
Don't be surprised that Erik Kuselias will be hosting Mike & Mike in the Morning all next week along with other ESPN personalities due to the untimely passing of Golic's father-in-law.
Two words: Breakfast Buffet.
