The ESPYs Were Definitely Cheesy, But Not Necessarily Bad
Monday, July 21, 2008
I caught most of the ESPYs last night and I have to say that while the event is a bit over the top, and the jokes are pretty bad, it's not all that bad. Sure you wouldn't go out of your way to watch it, but if you say...."had to"....it wouldn't be the end of the world. Justin Timberlake was equal parts cheesy and entertaining and I pulled a quick video for you if you missed the festivities....
You can get an overall sense of the night from that video, and if ESPN could ever not release the results about 5 days early they might have something. Outside of Timberlake singing and dancing, other highlights included: A nice moment about the V Foundation from Stu Scott and Robin Roberts, John Carlos and Tommie Smith winning the Arthur Ashe award and the girls who carried the Softball player around the bases winning an ESPY.
Again, nothing to change your weekend around, but they weren't terrible. Well if you could get past the million Hummer ads and Dana Jacobson's guns. Still....not that bad.

I've always pictured Dana Jacobsen more as a middle linebacker than a power forward.
They should have just called it the "New York Giants Dick Suck" show. Terrible.
Didn't watch it at all. Besides, The Simpsons movie was on HBO. Also, what was Chyna doing there anyway? Was she filming a "Cleb-reality" show for VH1?
best line of the night in opening monologue while looking at ELi Manning, Timberlake says "you had a good year you won the Super Bowl and you got to see a girl naked".
The Kevin Everett moment was pretty nice as well.
Timberlake was pretty funny - but what's up with all his "gay tendencies?"
He IS straight, right?...
No Erin Andrews screen caps? She looked even better than normal- if thats possible.
Yes, EA looked even better last night than she normally does.
They should have renamed it from the ESPYs to 'Brett Favre is here night! 2008'
I lost count of the number of times they panned to him in the audience, and, color me jaded, but this was only his second time there (by his own account)...anyone else think his appearing there was just more fuel for his desperate need for attention?
Maybe Favre was there because he was getting an award. Did you think of that?
What's the 'official' reason ESPN doesn't run the ESPYs live? Needing to show the Home Run Derby for the 23rd time?
