NFL Open Thread - Week 5 Early Games

Sunday, October 05, 2008

Considering what happened to Kimbo Slice last night, it might be wise for LaDainian Tomlinson to ditch this particular workout, don't you think?

If you need to check up, go here for the broadcast maps and full announcing matchups. It's a CBS doubleheader this week.

CBS:

Indianapolis at Houston - Greg Gumbel, Dan Dierdorf
Kansas City at Carolina - Kevin Harlan, Rich Gannon
San Diego at Miami - Gus Johnson, Steve Tasker
Tennessee at Baltimore
- Ian Eagle, Solomon Wilcots

FOX:

Washington at Philadelphia - Joe Buck, Troy Aikman
Seattle at New York Giants - Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, Tony Siragusa
Chicago at Detroit - Matt Vasgersian, Brian Baldinger, Brian Billick
Atlanta at Green Bay - Ron Pitts, Tony Boselli

Let's have at it, folks.

If I gotta watch the Chargers, it's nice to have Gus Johnson -- although I wonder how quickly he got from the Elite XC fight last night to Miami.

"Corey Ivy grabbed him from behind." -Ian Eagle has reach-arounds on the brain.

"The peripatetic Gus Johnson." - James Brown, finishing an update during SD-Miami
"heheheheheheh" - Gus Johnson
"What? Should you be insulted?" - Steve Tasker
"I don't know what he meant. He went to Harvard, man." - Johnson, still laughing.

From the dictionary:

peripatetic, adj. Definition: walking or traveling about; itinerant.

Considering GuJo had a late night calling Elite XC somewhere else, I'd say that fits.

"And 'peripatetic', Gus Johnson: the well-traveled after calling EliteXC last night and the NFL this morning." - James Brown, after the next cut to update.
"Heheheheheheh." - Gus Johnson
"I'm glad he explained that." - Steve Tasker
"No kidding. We're idiots over here."- Gus

"Steve, you've been a Pro-Bowler 7 or 8 times, but you've also had 7 or 8 concussions, so you're allowed to have a brain freeze." - GuJo after Tasker says punter Mike Scifres is left-footed when he isn't

We may have to start an NFL version of the Pammies at this rate.

Gus Johnson: "Back after this... Oh, exuse me we'll stay."

I love Gus, but he seems to be struggling a bit today. Perhaps fatigue from last night.

"The Redskins are not going to lay it is gonna be a full 60 minute fight." - Aikman with 2:00 left in 2nd qtr.

Actually the way the Skins D played in the 1st I'm just happy that there is a fight left.

Wags - I can't imagine Coach Hobo doing color commentary, ever. It would be the most mundane, simple, boring stuff.

Or it could be revelatory, given how most color guys talk too damn much.

The lead singer of 3 Doors Down (Brad Arnold, I had to look up who it was) just did the Anthem as i clicked by NASCAR.
If there's ever an event to not butcher the Nat'l Anthem at, it's gotta be a NASCAR race, but apparently Mr. Arnold doesn't agree.

"Fans dont like running plays on 2nd and 15." - Aikman on the boos coming from the Philly fans, after the play goes for no gain.

"usually a ball hitting the player in the chest is a pretty good spot" - Aikman

"So says the bitter ex-QB" - Buck in response. After a Skins player dropped hte pass.

Anon - I've noticed that NORV! not only has NORV! Face, but NORV! Pose, too -- where he crosses his arms with his hands in his armpits, and looks up or forward with his "Why me?" look.

Sad NORV! in the rain.

[Ball in the air for FG]
"Jim Zorn will say..."
{Ball goes thru uprights]
"Hip, hip, hooray."
-Joe Buck

That was just awful, and he said it like he was reading an obituary.

I think Pam Oliver said "evil Jim Johnson" at the start of the second half, when talking about the Eagles Def Coord

Aikman just said next week will be the first time he has done a Cardinals while working for Fox.

That is a pretty good sign your franchise has been bad, when the networks # 1 analyst hasnt done your game.

Did ESPN refer to the Jacksonville victory in Overtime over Indianapolis in their pregame shows this week?

EliteXC was at the Florida Panthers arena in Sunrise, so Gus had a nice 30 minute commute, no early AM flights.
