Your Updated (Updated) MLB Announcing Schedule

Tuesday, October 07, 2008

I actually like the way that TBS is settling into this year's MLB Playoffs. Sure, not every team is perfect, and some are just lacking energy entirely, but as a whole the overall product is much better than last year. Having to put together pairs and trios that have never worked together isn't an easy task, but longer series and a great studio team have made things much smoother. In the end, I think people will really notice how good TBS actually did when the dreaded FOX team comes into play for the NLCS.

Here is your League Championship Series announcing schedule. There are obviously some teams and times missing, but at least you have the days to mark off on your calendar. Outside of tomorrow, there's a game a night for the next two weeks.

I thnk the TBS persetnation is mcuh better than it was at anytime last year. The stuido show seems more alive than it did last year witch was a borefest. The additon of Eckersley, Gradnderson has made the show actually watchable. And the announcing pairs have in most cases benn good. In my opinon I think John Smoltz did a very good job in the Brewers vs Phillies sereis for someone that hasn't done game analysis before this year.

I think you might be off on your ALCS: if the Angels win their ALDS, they will have home-field advantage. If the BoSox win, the winner of ChiSox vs. Rays gets home field.

Last guy who commented is correct

also is the angels win tonight, game 5 is in Anaheim not Boston

Is that really the TBS team for the ALCS? It's like they took the opposite of my wish list and threw that up there. No Reynolds, Smoltz, or Fein, and instead Caray, Buck the Duck, and Ron and Craig are awful. Not the most coherent comment ever, but I'm just upset TBS took its weaker personnel and threw them together.

They need Kenny and Charles for the studio show, and do away with the other analysts, it would be great

Yeah, Carey is tolerable (but better than Joe Buck), Buck is eh (but better than McCarver), and I don't know where this Darling hate is coming from recently.....

Very good studio show this postseason, Granderson's going though and will probably be replaced with HR.

I agree ed. Chip Caray is horrendous. Buck Martinez may be worse. I thought the best announced series (from what I heard) was Don Orsillo and Reynolds. I may be biased as a Red Sox fan but Orsillo seems to have a good feel for the flow of the game and allows for periods of silence when it is called for. Caray and Martinez seem to want to fill dead air with mindless/useless chatter.

Thanks all....got a little confusing there at the end.

Harold Ryanols will join the TBS studio show for the ALCS. I thnk Chip Carey is a petty good annoucner in my opinoin.

I'm just relieved that the "erahs" will drop precipitously on the ALCS broadcast with no Stockton.

Saw Darling this afternoon in Boston. He's joing Caray and Martinez tonight in the booth.

@stephen
I agree about the studio show, Cal looks a lot better this year, Eck is doing better than I thought, and I've actually missed HR since ESPN let him go, so all in all, B+/A- in my book for them.

You did the same thing with the ChiSox/Rays series. Tampa would be the home team for game 5, not Chicago.

Why is it that the top teams for Fox and TBS are some of the worst possible. Comparitvely speaking, I guess I'm happy to be a Phillies fan.
Joe Buck > Chip Caray (do realize I'm not saying much at all; I do not like Buck at all, but I do prefer him over Caray)
Tim McCarver > Buck Martinez (I've never been more annoyed by an announcer's voice in my life than I am by Buck Martinez; I just can't past his voice).

Anyone see Granderson's base stealing segment in their pregame, pretty cool.

Anyone else sick of the Sager retro schtick?

Heef said...

Sager has NO OTHER schtick....

Caray and Martinez are brutal....they say the same damn stories that they told last game..Get new material or just talk about the game....Shut up! Can't believe the AL has to put up with them for the ALCS....Orsillo and Reynolds are the A team....

i dont see why everyone hates caray and buck i thought they were great, i think that they should have caray, martinez, and smoltz. too bad that the braves will probably get smoltz when he retires id love to have him on YES.

ethier way its better then buck and mccarver who somehow still have jobs. i used to think well its not bucks fault hes just on fox they make it hard for him to announce it, yet he comes out and says "o yea i never watch baseball its boring i only look at the fact sheets during the game" then i lost all respect for him.

If Caray says "The Angles want to force the issue on offense" one more time.....

It is almost as bad as last year when he kept saying "These aren't your Blake Street Bombers" over and over and over...

When you start repeating things, it means you have nothing to share.

Okay, this is driving me nuts.

What is up with Chip Caray and the phrase "clean hit"? He's used it quite a few times throughout the series and it seems like its usage should be relegated to radio calls.

Still doesn't bug me as much as when he says "And here come the [insert trailing team]!" even if it's a two-out single and trailing by 5.

Darling is a good listen. Calling Lester: 'The toughest guy on the field.' Says it all.

Congratluations, Phillies and Dodgers fans, your "reward" for reaching the World Series will be having to listen to Joe Buck for two weeks

What times do these games start? Looks like FOX and TBS will be in a ratings war with both games on at the same time on Friday and Monday.

No ratings war, though ALCS Game 2 will go head-to-head against LSU-Florida on CBS.

@ jg: Thanks! I'm so happy! Joe Buck! Yippee!!! In all seriousness, as I said yesterday, I do prefer Buck over Chip "Listen to the deafening silence in Boston!!!!" Caray.

I hope Joe Buck had enough time to cram before the NLCS (I don't know if 'The Bachelorette' is still on).

Chip Caray is so effing bad. Someone should start a Fire Chip Caray site. Even if it was only updated in October each year, it'd still get readers.

Joe Buck & Tim McCarver... worst.announcing.team.ever

The only way it could get worse is if they added Billy Packer to the mix.

What happens if there is a Game 5 of the NLCS during the last Presidential Debate? Will Fox just go with Fox News Channel to cover or will the game go to FX/FSN?

I have held my voice long enough and I can no longer stand to say nothing. John Kruk is the ugliest, most disgusting "announcer" I have ever seen. I can not have any respect for a person that cann't prepare himself in such a way as to present a professional appearance before a national audience on T.V. I think ESPN made a big mistake in hiring Mr. Kruk as an Analyst on public view. Mr. Kruk clean up your act!
