Dickie V Drops Some Rays Knowledge On The BBTN Crew

Tuesday, July 01, 2008

I really don't know what ESPN's obsession with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays is as of late, but I for one welcome the change. Well, until you get Rays Superfan #1 on the horn to gab about the team.

Wait, that was actually pretty good and actually more insightful than anything Steve Phillips has said in years. Someone switch the man's coverage over right now. And also, can someone get me a retro Rays jersey like the one that Vina was sporting? That thing is pimp.

Oh and one more thing. Who knew 11 years worth of Rays season tickets was worth $225K? That actually seems like a pretty good deal if you times it out.

11 years of season tickets is 891 home games. That doesn't seem like a very good deal to me - that's about $250 per game. It's possible to get Twins season tickets for $250 for the year (although Dickie V probably went for better seats than the upper deck in the outfield).

Vitale sits front row, I think, so the numbers sound about right.

Vitale does sit front row. I don't know where your' getting that he's a Yankee fan. I remember him mentioning the Twins several times watching IU basketball games a couple years back. Regardless hopefully the Twins can take division lead over the Sox.

Even so, $250 a game for front row seats seems a bit much, especially for a team that until this year was so awful. The best seats in the house for Twins games go for less than $50/game if you get season tickets.

If he's going with friends or family and that's $250 total per game, that makes a bit more sense. (Based on what I'm seeing on the Rays' website, that must be the case; full season plans don't go over $4600 per seat, and not even someone with Dickie V's penchant for exaggeration would think $4600 x 11 = $250,000.)

Those were the worse uniforms of all time (re: Vina's retro). Ask Paul Lukas, and he'll let you know his feelings.

I'm sure Dickie V doesn't buy just 1 season ticket. More likely to have a lot of 4 or so.

But that was extra annoying given how all the "analysts" wanted to show their Dickie-V impersonation.

Not only a Yankees fan but his head up A-Rod's rectum. He's only a Rays fans b/c he's a NJ transplant in Florida. Honestly they need to find that Happy Heckler. That's the ultimate Rays fan IMO since he was always there when they were the suck.

"don't know what ESPN's obsession with the Rays is?"

Huge turnaround-it's pretty obvious.

And you're right-it's a refreshing change. And I'm a Sox fan!

Funny how Dukie V always shows up when the ESPN gang comes to town when a new winner shows up in Tampa. Last year we had to hear him rave about the S Florida Bulls. He does do a better job than Baseball tonight. Fernando Vina and his groceries lies don't do as good a job. We know Fernando...Radomski got you groceries or something like that.
