Manny Says He Hustled In Boston, McCarver Sticks To His Guns

Thursday, October 09, 2008

I really think this is a non-story, but for some reason, people are still talking about Tim McCarver's comments in regards to Manny. Yesterday the FOX analyst was making the rounds on ESPN and was on Outside the Lines to talk about the postseason and to clarify his comments. McCarver stuck to his guns, and when given the chance to maybe replace the word despicable, he said that he's fine with the word and was fine when he first said it.

Manny also commented on the situation to media yesterday and here are both clips in case you missed them....

McCarver in the booth is one of the most maddening people I've ever listened to, but out of it....he just makes me laugh. Not only when he flashes that little grin at the end, but also when he almost calls Sports Center, "Sports Channel". I just can't stay mad at the guy.

McCarver Calls Manny's Behavior In Boston, "Despicable" (Awful Announcing)

Has anyone ever seen McCarver and Joe Biden in the same place at the same time?

I think part of this "controversy" is that last night was one of the most pathetic sports days/nights on record. ESPN showed the Bowe/Holyfield "Fan Man" fight in prime time, for goodness sake.

The reaosn why this story has become a bigger story than it should be, is becasue their was nothing to talk about sports wise the last copuple of days. And when that happends, the ESPN talking heads go crzy looking for anything that they think its a story.

McCarver looks like he should be yelling "JOKER...JOKER...JOKER!!!" on a game show.

Pot. Kettle. Black.

BTW, that Fox policy of NY/LA/Chi/Bos-against-anyone transplanted well to TBS.

Don't be fooled ... Tim McCarver knew what he was saying, knew what kind of reaction it would get, and knew it would become a story with himself squarely in the middle.

As far as "sticking to his guns," that is not the best terminology here to describe what McCarver is doing. He used the word "despicable." Not a big deal. It's not like he called his mother a "whore." Maybe then, would "sticking to his guns" be acceptable.
