MLB Network CEO Discusses Live Games And A-Rod Coverage
Wednesday, March 11, 2009
Two of the more interesting angles that the MLB Network has to deal with, were discussed today by network Pres and CEO, Tony Petitti. Petitti went on Bloomberg News yesterday and addressed not only the plans for covering live games, and how the network learned from the NFL Network, but more importantly how a channel which is owned by Major League Baseball can be critical of the Commissioner and league itself.
Here's the clip....
It's amazing to me just how more successful the MLB Network is when compared to the NFL Network. Obviously the MLB-N had the benefit of learning from the NFL-N, but you would think that the NFL-N could do so in-turn now. In fact, there's word today that with the loss of a deal with Comcast, the NFL could lose almost 2 million viewers (more on that a bit later today). They just simply can't let that happen, if they want to survive.

I think Comcast should put the MLB Net HD channel on its lineup. I don't know if Comcast is wating for the start of the baseball season to do so or what, but they should have it on.
I definitely would appreciate some HD coverage on MLB Network and as to why the MLB Network is doing so much better than the NFL Network I think it has a lot to do with the built in audience MLB Network started out with. Something like 50 million I believe, whereas with NFL Network you're forced to pay extra to subscribe to the service, which is why I've never taken the time to add NFL Network to my package.
It's nice that the MLB Network actually wants to be, you know, viewed by the public.
Yeah, but nobody gets the MLB network either. Nobody I know does, and that's proof enough for me.
If you have Comcast, Diret TV, Cox, and I think even Verizon Fios, you have MLB network. On Comcast if you have digital cable, its on channel 280. But hopefully sonn, Comcast will add the MLG Net HD channel.
Direct TV.
Speaking of the MLB-N and Comcast, how about some HD and programming info? Kinda frustrating to watch HD clips on SportsCenter of a game a watched in Fuzz-O-Vision. Plus, the channel guide says "Major League Baseball" for MLB-N, all day, every day. So much for DVRing Ken Burns' Baseball or my team's 30 Days.
