NFC Championship Open Thread

Sunday, January 18, 2009

Game: NFC Championship
Teams: Philadelphia Eagles at Arizona Cardinals
Location: University of Phoenix Stadium, Phoenix, AZ
Start Time: 3PM EST
Announcers and Network: Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, Pam Oliver (FOX)
Favorite: Eagles (-4)
AA's Pick: I think this thing is going to be a shootout, and can go either way, but whatever way that is....the Cardinals cover four at home. I'm guessing 31-28 Philly.

(FYI- S2N is out in the Pacific Northwest somewhere today, and I'm just lazy, so you're getting an open thread for each Championship game. I may check in from time to time with some quotes, but it's all yours today people.)

Did I hear wrong or did TB say a few minutes ago that he was flying out to the desert (presumably for the trophy presentation)? Sheesh, why not just send the whole crew out there.

Best. Andy Reid. Photo. Ever.

As a Pats fan, all of my mortal enemies are already out of the playoffs.

Go... Ravens?

Where do we start with the horrible announcing of this game so far?

- JB was so excited about the Cardinals touchdown he couldn't pronounce Whisenhunt on the way to commercial.

- Troy stated that the Cardinals got a good jump on the snap count when they were actually flagged for offsides on the play.

- Apparently, Will Demps just made the tackle for Philly, oh wait he plays for Houston.

How is this your top announcing team FOX?

The Cardinals need another balanced approach on offense this week. The running game has been productive in the past three weeks, and it's allowed offensive coordinator Todd Haley to keep teams off-balance with his play calling./Cool widgets at statbeast.

Wow. 3 easy throws missed by McNabb, one that would've been a walk-in TD.

Oooh, our first Matt Leinart sighting! What he lacks in pom-poms he makes up for in team spirit.

"Absolutely funked." - Joe Buck inventing a word on Akers' 45-yard field goal in the first quarter while making everyone paying half attention think they are watching an R-rated movie.

"You can bang 'em...but you can't just throw a guy to the ground."

Forever yours,

So Joe Buck has never seen Caddyshack? He obviously missed the reference with the Dangerfield/Gopher poster.

JB is the consummate company man.

That's because he (JB) was totally playing the FOX shill, by telling us how we all LURV "Digger" - FOX's NASCAR version of "Cleitus"... because it's all about FOX, not the actual event they are broadcasting.

Fuck these refs. Every single one of them should be looking for a new weekend job next year. Terrible call.

Whew! And I was worried we wouldn't get the dramatic franchise summary by JB. Thank you for putting it all into banal perspective for us... Oh look! Cross-0sport comparisons! SPARE US.
