Texas Wins An NCAA Playoff Semifinal Game! Unimportant Fiesta Bowl

Monday, January 05, 2009

Well at least the last few minutes were exciting. In fact, I decided to avoid the first three quarters altogether (mainly because the bands were already driving me crazy before the game even started), and just take in these final few moments.

Ohio State scored to take the lead, with two minutes to go, on a nice run by Daniel Herron, but with OSU's recent history in Bowl Games....you just knew they left too much time on the clock....

That was Senior Quan Cosby, and that my friends is a fifth straight Bowl victory for the Longhorns, and a fourth straight BCS loss for the Buckeyes. I almost feel bad for Ohio tonight....I said almost.

As an OSU fan, I hate the fact that this website still hates on OSU. But ay, congrats to Texas. Great game. Best BCS game so far. Let's just hope the Oklahoma-Florida game is this good.

Ohio State is 4-3 in BCS games. I get the feeling you would be lampooning an announcer for making the same mistake. The least you could do would be edit your post to make it correct.

There is no question last night's Fox broadcast was one of thee worst I have ever seen. Someone must have woken up Vasgersian and Ryan for the final minute, because they were asleep the first 59. Studio show is just god awful and the camera angles and production blows.

jesus chris AA, get your facts straights. THREE IN A ROW. And we have won, I believe, the 2nd most BCS games. Can't knock Ohio State (as much) anymore. NO ONE thought they had a chance last night. I think (some) respect has be gained.

Mark my word, they will beat USC in the shoe and WILL go to the Title game in Pasadena next season. I guarantee it.

Now for Matt Vasg. After last years GREAT Fiesta Bowl call, this was a disgrace. I can sum it up by one quote...

"...Eric Crabtree..."

how in the hell can you knock Ohio State for that game? the WORST part about sports is people irrationally hating when nothing but respect should occur.

I thought that Fox toned down the band shots this year...it was nowhere as bad as last year.

HOWEVER, they had the bands supermiked up so it's all you heard. The bands and the announcers...it was like the game was being played in a vacuum because you couldn't hear the crowd except for touchdown plays and such.

I don't like a lot of what ESPN does with the pro sports but they do a bang-up job with both college basketball and football. I'll be glad when they have the BCS again.

Which is odd because I like Fox's NFL presentation a million times better than ESPN's on Monday Night. Go figure.

They just replaced a few band shots with McCoy family shots. With Texas' quick-hike offense, these things helped viewers miss the start of roughly 43 plays.

This is why no one feels sympathy toward OSU fans. You are all dickbags. You suffer a tough loss, should go into hiding for the next day or two like the cowards that you are, and then come back a week later and act like nothing happened. But, nope, here you are, arguing that you are not a four time loser but a three time loser, dammit! Get your facts right, AA, for that stat is much more important than the massive choke that the Buckeyes pulled in Glendale.

Big Ten went 1-6...why are they still a BCS conference again?

Matt Vasqueegy aside, I still think the celebration rule is the dumbest rule in college football.

I can't wait till the day FOX doesn't have the BCS rights anymore. They just don't do a great broadcast.

I'm with G-Money. Buckeyes fans are all morons and sore losers. The fact that President Gee is adamantly against a playoff does nothing to make me more sympathetic toward you. War the Buckeyes always making jackasses of themselves in January and as soon as a playoff is implemented, Ohio State should never be allowed in. Screw Buckeye nation or whatever gay name you call yourselves. Nice job Texas! Oh yes, Jim Delany is Satan incarnate as well.

@ GusJohnsonForGod and all other Ohio State fans: As someone who personally hates Ohio State, Ohio State did earn my respect last night.....but lost it in the final minute of that game.

First of all, Ohio State got the best spot possible on that 4th down play. Kirkendoll clearly got that a foot past the 40-yard line, but the ball was marked right at the 40.

Second of all, no team earns respect by choking in the last minute of a game, and especially in that fashion leaving Quan Crosby wide open for what may have been one of the easies game-winning touchdowns at the end of the game.

Third of all, you tOSU fans are really showing your true colors by cursing out AA for making an error in his stats and demanding respect for an epic Fiesta Bowl choke job that will be replayed time and time again.

That, in a nutshell, is why Ohio State is one of the most hated football teams in the nation.

Wow....I actually agree with Brad James....

To call a good game like last night's Fiesta Bowl unimportant is such a close-minded view. I realize most people want a playoff, but the bowl system fits well with college football. There shouldn't have to be a title or a playoff spot on the line to have a great athletic contest. Having two elite programs go at it and compete to their best ability is good enough for me. This is the nature of pure competition and this is what college football has always been about. Playoffs work great in other sports, but it is not necessary in college football. I realize it has been hard to differentiate the top 5 or 6 teams at the end of the regular season these past 2 years, but this may not be typical in future seasons. People want finality in their college football seasons, but I don't think that is necessary. Plus, I like it that all the bowl winners get to end the season on a high note. During March Madness, it often feels depressing seeing teams that had great years end their seasons quietly and somewhat anti-climatically. If people need the Fiesta Bowl to be a playoff game to get more enjoyment out of it, so be it.

I love sports fanatics because they are completely oblivious to how irrational they act.

And AA, we both know Ohio State has been thumped so badly in the last three losses that really they've lost four times.

@ Anon @ 12:41: That's all well and good, but a). Texas played like they just didn't care in the first half and b). if tomorrow night's championship game is close, wait until you see the can of worms when you're gonna have Utah, Texas, USC, and the winner of tomorrow night's game all with a legitimate case as national champions.

whatever.

I said in my post SOME respect was gained. And if you have read every post of AA hating on tOSU, I always fire back at him. I seriously just laughed when Cosby scored. I'm not a disgruntled fan, it was a great game and regardless the outcome they played fine and SOME respect was gained. BUt I don't want respect, I just want them to win. They lost so move on to 2009-2010.

Win or loose, people are always going to dislike tOSU, I am fine with it. We get good players, we win games, we get on TV. Sorry your team probably doesn't...I don't care. Hate on us it is perfectly okay with me haha. I just like how we loose 3 straight BCS game all of a sudden we are a joke haha. Doesn't defeat the face we are 4 and 3 in the BCS and 3-3 in the BCS the last 7 years and 4 and 3 in bowl games.

Now I do not joke (like I do with AA) around when I call people out who don't know what the hell they're talking about. But it seriously is okay haha, I'll be a Buckeye until I die and won't regret for one minute being a Buckeye.

Oh and why doesn't anyone ever rat on a team like OU?

They are 1-4 in their last 5 bowls.
They are 0-4 in last 4 BCS.
And about to be 0-2 in BCS.

Love yah AA.
Go Bucks.
