Jeanne Zelasko Not Invited To Dodger Tryout
Friday, March 06, 2009
A month or so ago, I posted an article on Jeanne Zelasko wanting the Dodgers road play-by-play gig. Well today, the LA Daily News is reporting that not only is she not getting the job, she wasn't even a finalist for a tryout....
Former Fox MLB studio host Jeanne Zelasko was inexcusably left out of the group of six broadcasters who the Dodgers invited to a play-by-play tryout during March, their attempt to find someone for a package of 40 TV road games. A forward- thinking organization couldn't figure out that by including her in the mix, they'd elicit some positive reaction? Listening to a couple of games this week showcase 28-year-old Ben Wagner, a poor man's Matt Vasgersian currently with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, any recognizable voice in the So Cal market who missed this cut must really reassess his or her future. What are the Dodgers trying to achieve here, if not a search to replace Vin Scully someday?Well that's a shame. You'd think that with the good PR that would come from at least a look at Zelasko, would be enough to bring her in right? I'm not saying she would be good or bad, but she definitely deserved a shot.

Why does she deserve a shot? Because she said she wants one?
Hey, I'd like one, do I get one too?
As a Buffalonian, I love the shot at Wagner
As a lifelong SoCal resident and Dodgers fan, I have a vested interest in who the Dodgers hire on as their play-by-play voices, and I was not looking forward to Zelasko. She seems like a nice lady, but for the Daily News to say that she should get a look just so the team could get some "positive reaction" is a slap to all those who have the credentials to do the job. Just because she's a woman doesn't mean she should get a look. Good call.
Mike T is right. She also shot herself in the foot by admitting she didn't know very much about baseball.
@steve smith- that was painfully obvious during her run at FOX.
Exactly. She got her shot every weekend on Fox for the past decade. I can't see any reason why keeping her at home is inexcusable.
Go Ben Wagner!
Just to back up what someone said on here, Jeanne Zelasko is one of the most awkward, uncomfortable people I've ever seen on-air. She's just flat out unlikable, and I'm fairly confident she doesn't have an ounce of talent in her entire body. She is on an Andrea Kramer level of suckitude.
I may despise the Doyers, but this was actually a good move for them (or non-move I guess you could say.)
This has nothing to do with her being a woman and as such she shouldn't get special treatment because she's a woman...she is just terrible at her job.
I like her, but I agree that the Oher interview was not the most memorable moment.

Her interview of Michael Oher's foster parents at the Cotton Bowl this year was one of the most condescending and uncomfortably awkward sideline interviews I've ever seen. It was a perfect example of what a disaster FOX trying to do CFB is.
She is horrible. Good move by the Dodgers to keep her away.
