NCAA Tournament Regional Semifinals And Finals Announcing Schedule

Sunday, March 23, 2008

Well it looks like Cinderella has found it's announcer, or rather he has found them. The Davidson-Wisconsin this Friday will be called by the Gus Johnson-Lenny Elmore combo as they head to Detroit for the Midwest semis.

Here are the rest of the games via CBS' PR Department.....

Thursday:
Xavier vs. West Virginia (Phoenix, 7:10pm)- Verne Lundquist and Bill Raftery
North Carolina vs. Washington St. (Charlotte, 7:27pm)- Dick Enberg and Jay Bilas
UCLA vs. Western Kentucky (Phoenix, 9:40pm)- Verne Lundquist and Raftery
Tennessee vs. Louisville (Charlotte, 9:57pm)- Dick Enberg and Jay Bilas

Friday:

Wisconsin vs. Davidson (Detroit, 7:10pm)- Gus Johnson and Len Elmore
Texas vs. Stanford (Houston, 7:27pm)- Jim Nantz and Billy Packer
Kansas vs. Villanova (Detroit, 9:40pm)- Gus Johnson and Len Elmore
Memphis vs. Michigan State (Houston, 9:57pm)- Jim Nantz and Billy Packer

Thank you CBS. Every game I want to see is covered by the people I want to hear. Bravo.

(Announcers stay in region for Finals)

So Nantz and Packer are away from Hansbrough? What are they going to do?

Sweet. I remember what happened the last time Nantz and Packer did a regional in Texas.

Ian Eagle should have a Region. Guys is the best announcer with Gus. Get rid of Dick Enberg.

Thank god Len Elmore isn't doing the Michigan State game. I couldn't believe how many times he referred to Spartans center Idong Ibok (is that a great name or what?) as "Ibok Idong"

Johnson and Elmore should be lucky to do high school games.

I know CBS doesn't want to run four games back-to-back a day, but there should be some way not to have these games overlap.

Of course, I know I'm getting Uncles Verne and Billy on Thursday because it's the West region. I just hope I get Gus and Len for Wisky-Davidson and Kansas-Nova.

Any time without Nantz and Packer is a good time.

Amen, S2N.

It's good to see the Lundquist/Raftery team getting another gig.

Dammit! What did we do to deserve Nantz and Packer, CBS?

I was kind of sick of Gus mixing up Neitzel and Naymick (didn't notice the Elmore thing with Ibok, since if he touches the ball I'm usually trying to figure out what form the impending disaster will take), but I'd still take that over Billy the Grump.

Wow, I am nothing short of shocked that Nantz and Packer didn't get the Charlotte regional to still be with North Carolina.

......and I couldn't be happier.

I'm also shocked Nantz/Packer aren't doing the Charlotte region.

That and the south are probably the two regions I'm looking forward to the most, so I wish Lundquist and Raftery had gotten that one instead of Enberg/Bilas.

Now, let's just hope for some good games.

I bet Nantz just wanted to be near home and requested Houston...he has that sway.

Also, leave it to the NCAA to start the Phoenix games before Charlotte on Thursday.

I had a feeling they might bring Gus back to his old stomping grounds.

Wait... You're telling me that Bolerjack and Wenzel didn't make the cut? Something is clearly wrong here...

I am a huge fan of Ian Eagle and am frustrated that Bilas or Nantz was selected over a brilliant announcer. It's possibly due to contract restrictions since Eagle also works for the Nets, but, nevertheless, Enberg is terribly boring and Lenny Elmore is worthy of a mute. Ive watched most of the games and have not heard any incredible calls like in the 90s.

bill may be on to something. Gus Johnson is from Detroit and that's where he is this week.

Here's hoping that "the slipper still fits" for Villanova and Davidson.

Can't wait to here Packer say something like "well, that was just a good hard foul" when Neitzel attempts to claw one of the Tigers' eyes out.
Billy's also good with lines like "those folks in Palo Alto would sure like to go deep (in the tournament) with these Twins Brook and Robin. Instead of counting how many times Packer said "Hibbert" and "Hansbrough" we'll now have to count how many times he says "Neitzel" and "Lopez" (or "Twins"). He needs to do games with big known name players because he clearly does not know college basketball.

The reason Nantz and Packer aren't doing Charlotte is because they seem to always do the late Sunday game of the regional round--probably because they're the top team and that's probably the highest rated game of the weekend. If you go back the last few years, they're always on the late Sunday game, and anticipating a Memphis-Texas game means that should be the late Sunday game this year.
