Thank You For Gus And Stephen CBS

Saturday, March 29, 2008

This is probably my favorite play of the Tournament so far. Just an amazing shot by Stephen Curry and an awesome reaction by Gus Johnson. Oh and I threw in the Karate Kid flip up by Michael Flowers because it was badass.

This kid has gone for 40, 30, and now 33. Just other worldly if you ask me, but if he and Davidson does this to Kansas I will be truly shocked. Either way I'm happy for Curry and hopefully now he can get some better umm...talent?

Also, Lenny....English Major? I approve! Where did that come from???

That was a great play, but let me ask an important question: Is there any bandwagon Lebron James won't jump on?

The Cleveland Indians one?

Awesome call but the English major line was even better. Too bad it probably went over most everyone's head.

English refers to the spin of the ball on the backboard on that shot.

Great call on the English major. Gotta be honest, though, everytime an announcer refers to taking a seat on the bench as "a blow" I cringe.

C'mon Gus, is "seat" or "rest" that much harder to use than "blow"?

/end rant

Yes, add "a blow" to the list of things basketball announcers shouldn't say, along with "strokin' it" and any reference to penetration.

Stephen Curry = Monta Ellis

Same height (6'3"), similar scoring ability, and Curry has a lot more range than Monta (20 PPG, but only 23% from 3 for Golden State).

...and he's still not listed on NBADraft.net's 1st or 2nd round projections, whatever that's worth.

Gus Johnson did say "No doubt about it. Find some of that on the backboard."

At least GuJo got it.

Rick James -

Curry is listed as a late First Round pick on NBADraft.net for the '09 draft.

So they think he'll leave after his Junior year.

Thanks, Anon 8:40. It's just the way people were fawning over Curry (especially the Cleveland honks after LeBron was at the game yesterday), I'd thought he would get some more run for this year's Draft. I heard some Cleveland radio slappys talking about how he would go in the late part of the Lottery, if not where the Cavs pick this year, and that LeBron was personally "scouting" him. Bleh.

Thanks AA! Sickest move of the tournament by far. The dagger if ever there was one.

Wouldn't it be something if Curry & Co. could find a way, ANY WAY, to get past Rock Chalk Jayhawk Sunday. You know what that would mean -- a rematch with UNC in the Final Four!
