Lavinburger Is Back, Brent Still Drunk
Wednesday, January 14, 2009
If you're not around on the weekend for the Pammies, there's a running joke that we have. Brent Musburger is so ridiculously random, and occasionally slurs often enough that we like to think he's drunk in the booth. Well apparently the same thing is true in Basketball.
Nearing the end of last night's OSU-IU game, ESPN did a split screen with Musburger and Steve Lavin. Brad Nessler and Jimmy Dykes were on the next game, and after a few pleasantries, Musburger decided to talk about red wine and the fact that he might be drinking alone following the game.
Now I know this isn't that bad (more funny than anything else), but who else could get away with talking about boozing it up, other than Musburger? I think most people would at least get a talking to.
Oh and I missed you Lavinburger! I would love to hear more about Lavin's diet in the games to come!!!

McDonough always tries to get on Raftery about his drinking ("Bilas is here for his fifth year of Big Mondays, and Raftery has been here for countless Big Mondays and Bud Lights").
On a more serious note, Indiana should be banned from TV for at least the next two years.
Rick James -- Verne & Raf are the kings of slipping in drinking inneudo. I definitely want to be at a bar with those two sipping on scoth at like 130am...you know they have a good time, but stay classy doing so.
The best is during the Big East tournament and the McDonough/Raf/Bilas team does the noon & 2pm games. You can count on at least 5 references to Raf either closing down a bar, being tired or just flat hungover.
I just realized...there isn't too many bad college basketball pairings out there?
Hell, you NEED Lavinberger to spice up an Ohio St./Indiana game....
(I'm surprised AA hasn't bragged about the Wolverine resergence in b ball this year)
FWIW, after the last game of a very dismal SF Giants season a few years ago, Mike Krukow named Jack Daniels as the player of the game.

Anyone who works with Tim Brando or Stephen Bardo would disagree.

I think AA is only a Michigan football fan, not basketball.
Don't forget that Al Michaels always gets away with veiled gambling references.

Ugh, I forgot about Brando...annoying on Sunday (BUT not as much of a UNC homer as Mike Patrick), but VERY annoying for the NCAA tourney.
As for Bardo, I have never luckily heard a full game with him on color, usually cause the games he does are mediocre at best.
And we call Brent "Captain Three-Sheets-To-The-Wind" as we speak.
BTW, Southend leads Chelski 1-0 in the 29th minute of an FA Cup match as I type this.
Not quite heading to Pammie territory, but heading in that direction ...
Speaking of the Pammies, unless I missed it, I never saw any Postseason Pammies handed out this year. I demand the right to vote for the "Golden Shower" comment in the Hawaii-Notre Dame game!
Brando as much of a homer as TRTIMP*?
Nooooooo.

Lav & Brett have great chemistry. Lav has all the same facts, information, name dropping that Vitale does, minus the hysteria and spittle. Plus, I love the way Lav always makes a subtle play for EA's heart. He says stuff like "Erin's gators" etc. I'm not saying anothing more than that he has an enormous Tebowner for a certain sideline reporter. Lavinburger notwithstanding, EA is the only reason to watch Big 10 hoops. But they make it fun.
