MLB Network Airs First Live HOF Election Ceremony
Monday, January 12, 2009
The MLB Network came up with a great idea a few weeks back, and decided to air the HOF Election Ceremony live for the first time ever. They even succeeded in creating a little bit of suspense around the announcement, and after it was announced that he made it into the Hall, Jim Rice came on for a brief interview....
Things are a bit slow going in the offseason, but programs of this nature keep me coming back to the new channel. As far as the nominations, both Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice deserve to be in the Hall, so good job by the writers in that regard. Especially when you consider it was Rice's last chance to get in. I also think Andre Dawson should be in, so hopefully he gets his due next year.

2 people voted for Jay Bell...you've got to be kidding me.
How can Jim "lower the bar" if he's not the worst player in the hall? That doesn't make any sense. There are far worse players in the hall of fame than Jim Rice.
He had a good case and if he'd been a nice guy to all the writers, would've gotten in 10 years ago. The idea of a hall of fame where only certain players get in is dumb anyway because there's never a way to determine who should be in and who shouldn't. There should be a museum, but it should be a hall of record, not of fame and popularity.
As a Yankke fan I say of course Rice belongs, That is a no brainer!
Tommy John should be in.
Dawson should be in. He has amazing numbers, especially for someone who played in Montreal and gutted it out for many years without knees. (and didn't take steriods to recover)
I wouldn't mind seeing Dawson go in, but Raines is the first guy on my list of eligible players that need to be voted in.
raines definitely. dawson had better numbers than jimmy rice. and as a yankke fan i think rice should be in too.
For the first teime, MLB Net outcooped ESPN on something. Its nice to hhave somewhere else to go for baseball news besides ESPN.

I take it you don't like those forced "Hot Stove Updates" in every SportsCenter or ESPNews show.
Andre Dawson: the greatest Montreal Expo of all time.
Neither Jim Rice nor Andre Dawson deserve to be in. Rice only lowers the bar for the HOF.
