This Is Why Herm Edwards Is The Best Coach In The NFL

Saturday, February 23, 2008

So they had a little coin flip to figure out picks 3-5 in the Draft this April and Kansas City ended up with number five after Atlanta won the first toss. If Atlanta had lost that first toss there would have been another toss between the Chiefs and Falcons for #4.

Well according to genius KC coach Herm Edwards, he didn't even want that opportunity....

“I didn’t want a chance to flip,” Edwards said. “I wanted to be five. That was a good number for us. Five is good. I just felt all along we were going to be five. I thought Atlanta would win the coin toss.”
Right Herm...riiiight. Because that makes complete sense. I mean four is higher than five, but who cares right? And you wondered why I made fun of ESPN's decision to hire him as an analyst for the playoffs.

Sure you can argue the more money factor, but I always thought that was a bunch of b.s.

Why Herm continues to get the accolades heaped upon him that he does is beyond me. He's an average head coach who is really quotable...that makes him a media darling.

Yeah, Herm, you wanted to be 5 and not 3, right? I'm sure Atlanta feels the same way....or not, as it were.

I'm so bitter right now Brett...they probably won't even make the tourney now.

as a chiefs fan, i understand where herm is coming from. sadly, KC is not a very well-run organization, with neither a win-now attitude, nor a rebuilding attitude. 8-8 all the way. so since the guy running the show is an idiot coughcarlpetersoncough, the 5th pick puts a lot less pressure on the chiefs to draft based on need (QB!!! MATT RYAN) and go with someone else. c o n s e r v a t i v e. ok i'm done.
btw looove the blog man keep it up.

Herm is actually right here... it doesn't matter.. If the Rams don't take Jake long, the chiefs will.. Atlanta and Oakland aren't looking at him, so it really doesn't matter..

And the chiefs had better not take a Qb that early... it would be a waste because they would be running for their life... We need O-Line. First three picks better be O-Line, O-line, CB.

And that said, I want to clarify something. I hate herm with a passion. I hope he dies. King Carl can go rot in hell too.

What the hell, Herm? "You play to win the game."

Herm is beginning to sound like Randy Quaid's character from "Independence Day".
Oh, and AA- at least your team has a shot at the big dance. UVA can't even get out of their own way...

AA, off-topic, but CBS pulled a Heidi Game and cut off the last minute of the Kentucky-Arkansas game when it was a one-possession game with one minute left and switched to the Duke-St. John's game. Haven't been able to find a blog entry or video on it, but game threads have comments on it and there's this "Stop calling us, call CBS" story from the station that had the game:

Any chance you think he was making a mockery of the coin flip? I dunno, it sounds so stupid I can't believe that he would be serious.

The chiefs couldn't of got the third pick so it was either four or five because the chiefs had a better record compared to the raiders in common opponents for the chiefs which doesn't make that much difference considering what the Falcons need compared to the Chiefs. So having the fourth pick would probably just cost more for the same player.
