ESPN Hires Bobby Knight As An Analyst
Thursday, February 28, 2008
You pretty much knew this was coming right? ESPN announced today that Bobby Knight will be joining their stable of ex-coaches and players starting March 12th. He will be utilized across a multitude of platforms but most notably as an analyst during Championship Week....
Basketball Hall of Famer Bob Knight, the winningest coach in Division I men’s college basketball with 902 victories, will join ESPN as a men’s college basketball studio analyst during the network’s coverage of Championship Week Presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods and through the NCAA Tournament. Knight will begin Wednesday, March 12 from ESPN’s Bristol studios and conclude Monday, April 7 from ESPN’s set in San Antonio, Texas, site of the NCAA Final Four. As part of the agreement, Knight will also appear on select ESPN shows and platforms, including SportsCenter, ESPN Radio and ESPNEWS.So I guess the question is how much do you think Bobby Knight gets paid for just under a month's worth of work? Oh and by "compelling listen" do you mean "obnoxious a**hole"??? I kid I kid (not really). I think I was pretty dead on with this quote three weeks ago....
“I think ESPN has been real good for college basketball and I look forward to working with some of their people who I have known a long time,” said Knight.
Norby Williamson, ESPN executive vice president, production, added, “Coach Knight is a legend with a depth of knowledge on tournament basketball. Fans have always found him to be a compelling listen and we are delighted to add his insights to our tournament coverage.”
"He's just not a good fit for television which means ESPN will hire him later today."
So Is Bobby Knight Heading To TV? (Awful Announcing)

"Coach Knight is a legend with a depth of knowledge on tournament basketball." Fuck you, Norby.
WHAT ABOUT FUCKIN PURDUE???
Wait til someone is walking around near a camera when he's on the air.
Just wait until Reece or some other host says something that sounds stupid to his doucheness. "You dumb Son of a Bitch, Davis. Do you even know what fuckin basketball looks like you fuckin twerp?" It will happen, mark my words.
Please please PLEASE feature him with Skip Bayless!!!!!
This COULD be a good hire if ESPN would tell Knight NOT to change...but they won't.
Wouldn't mind seeing Knight roast Stephen A. Smiff like army ants getting burnt with a magnifying glass.
Anon 3: I agree. Having a Knight/Bayless matchup will definitely put Lil' Skip in his place.
I think they should put Knight together with Jeremy Schapp for a sick version of Odd Couple.
@Anon 8:46:
The only way that Odd Couple would've worked with Jeremy Schapp was if Bobby Fischer was his opposite (and that's not happening now). Maybe Knight & Jason Whitlock if he was still at ESPN...
Pair him with Gottlieb and let the lovebirds have it out.
Off-topic, but am I the only one that finds Nicole Manske attractive? She might be behind Stacey Dales at #3 for sideline chicks on ESPN for me, with Erin Andrews obviously #1.
Knight was on this morning with Mike and Mike and Greeney kept trying to get Knight to talk about Indiana. Knight wanted nothing to do with it and kept changing the subject. He wouldn't even talk about the Sampson situation claiming he didn't know enough about it. A huge story in college hoops this year and ESPN's new analyst doesn't know a lot about it.
Do you think he'll get to do a Lou Holtz/Digger Phelps style fake pep talk on college gameday?
"Now I'm tired of this shit! I'm sick and fuckin' tired of an 8-10 record!I'm fuckin tired of losing to Purdue."
That'd be great freaking TV!
Something tells me he won't be putting up with a lot of horseshit from the talking idiots on ESPN.
I think Bobby Knight was coaching Michigan women's basketball team last night. Or a reasonable facsimile. Their coach had a Knight (or Gundy) type of a meltdown at last night's press conference. I guess the BTN is good for something.
Also on Mike and Mike, Knight kept making references to Golic being an offensive linemen, and his footwork in "blocking guys". It was absolutely priceless to see the look on Golic's face as Knight kept referring to his work on the O-line.
He must have looked like he ate too much pot roast.
This has disaster written all over it. No, not his analysis, I'm talking about his eyebrows in HD.
